  • In this excerpt from our whole conversation, Robert talks about the rhizosphere, and how plants are able to manipulate the soil close to their roots to affect the acidity (pH), nutrient levels, fungi, and soil-life activity in ways that benefit plant growth.
It’s the beginning of Fall and it’s time to start thinking about next year’s garden - and that means soil preparation! Thankfully we have author, teacher, master gardener, man of science and myth-buster Robert Pavlis - fresh off writing his new book: “Soil Science for Gardeners” - to help us improve our understanding of how we can work with nature to build soil health.
    Robert’s published books:
Garden Myths, Soil Science for Gardeners and Building Natural Ponds
Blogs: Garden Myths and Garden Fundamentals
    Robert’s RUclips Channel: Garden Fundamentals

Absolutely amazing. I have heard the phrase that plants can’t move so they have to fight. In this case it is fighting to make its environment more amenable.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series on soil bio dynamics. I did not catch who this guy is, but his ability to teach and explain this subject is top notch. I have to save every one of these and share them. Thank you. Thank you

So plants are actually a lot like human beings. The more a person gives, the more the person gets back. Cool stuff man. Makes me really appreciate my plants even more. Thanks Greg.

Perhaps, better than humans because they exchange and help each other. Old trees give nutrients to younger trees and so on

Humans can do that just fine - sharing and helping each other is in our nature, it's just that the ones with all the power seem to lack that ability. Our laws and culture seem to reward selfish behavior, so the most selfish of us tend to rise to the top and keep everything that way. We could learn a lot from plants, and we are at our best when we follow their example.

Hello Greg. A very important topic for humanity not only gardeners. How they capture carbon and return it to the soil for example. I recommend you to watch the film " Fantastic Fungi". It is on Netflix and youtube. Thanks. See you
