my dad used to always play this album when i was little and i’m here right now trying to bring it all back
I used to play it when my two kids were really little. When it first came out, I played the whole album the whole summer, running the kids up and down the shore in my old jeep. And over the years I’d play it every now and then. Then last summer, after years and years of not hearing it, my now grown son pulled up to my house in his Camaro for a visit, and when he opened his car door, this track came pouring out of the car. And we started singling it, right in the driveway. He said he has a lot of good childhood memories to this album too. Always think of my kids when they were little when I hear it. We loved it then. We love it still.
@@rebeccahopkins9522 thats really sweet i remember being younger and walking into the kitchen for breakfast and hearing this song, just like you and your kids i have some great memories attached to this song
This album is just so damn good.
this is just one song its not the whole ablum
@@kenthknicket6500 It's not that hard to understand that I was talking about Wincing the Night Away - the album that this song comes from (and the cover of which is featured here on this vid). Only a wilful and poorly raised child would pretend not to get it.
i dont get it
Still one of the most effective and visceral openings to an album I've ever heard. I remember when my music teacher in highschool put in on the cd player one day. She brought the album for me she said she liked my taste in music and thought I might like it. As soon as it started I knew I was hooked.. To my surprise it wasnt even the best song on the album. I instantly went out and bought it and listened to it religiously on my walkmen and throwing it in all of my friends cd players. It came with a lyric booklet it the cd cover as well. Blew my mind how poetic it all was. For me I u understood what it meant, it was a spiritual out poor of emotion.. "The Shins get me" I thought...
We’re all here because we have great taste in music
You want to know your real identity, as opposed to your social categorization?
Ask: What music do you *really* love?
This doesn't give us "identity", but it does show us an unsayable affinity among souls, and that, not identity, is what we most need.
Speak for yourself. I'm here because of a Zune commercial
Yes
Not me, my music taste sucks
idk exactly how i got here, but i sure as shit have no complaints
Man, this song hits all the right spots.
this is like my hobby room, i come here time to time, to chill and relax, doing my own stuff.
Haha same
That is a perfectly worded way to describe this beautifully created masterpiece
Am I invited? I miss my studio
I don’t understand how this isn’t their most popular song
Me either. When I first heard it I wondered how such a song isnt played on the radio. This is still one of my top 5 rock bands
Well they WERE super popular in 2006
When Natalie Portman told Zach braf
“ the shins will change your life”
margi cates - that was how I got introduced to the Shins.
It was the last song played at their Victoria show in 2112
Because they have so many 10/10 songs lol
Great album! The Shins created a flawless, happy, unhappy, and just great album!
this is just one song not the entire album but it is a great snog
Same
This song puts a little tear in my eye, but it makes me happy. One of the all time greats!
One of my favorite songs ever!
such a great one weird others here thing its a whole ablum 😕
Has to be one of the top 5 greatest albums of all time, ever. And I do mean ALBUM - listening to it uninterrupted from start to finish is infinitely better than any individual song in isolation, as genius as they all are in their own right. What a masterpiece! Pretty sure Mercer is the greatest musician since John Lennon.
man this takes me back to my high school days.
This album beautifully sums up my life since its debut. All the wonderful and morbid and bright and dark parts are told through James Mercer's masterpiece! 😉
This song reminds me of high school but in a good way. I remember waking up early because I couldn’t live at my dads house anymore since he moved away, so I lived with my grandmother and my uncle would pick me up real early for high school, since my cousin got to pick what we listened to in the morning on her iPod, we would always listen to the Shins, the Strokes, Sublime, or something that is very comforting to me now.
My first real boyfriend bought me this album for Christmas. Its a sonic delight
What album did your imaginary boyfriend get you though? =D
So why’d you dump him?
@@anthonyrandall8045 Either she is a modern woman, or the man was like a disruptive 50's wife beater. Usually, it's the first.
that's weird, my ex got me this for xmas too. we definitely bonded over the shins early on, circa 2012
We dated in high school and he's married now
This is the first song I heard by the shins. its been a long time but I still come back to this one. cheers yall
#Justthememories
The beauty in "Just the Memories" Sent me back to such an amazing sound that makes me remember "Sleeping Lessons" from "The Shins".
At the time of their release i was Obseesed 🥲 i felt an escape when i would listen to it.

I've been looking for this song for months.. its so hard to describe lol my girlfriend kept saying its Mr sandman when i tried to hum the tune... but I've found it at last. its raining and this is the perfect song.
Drew bought me here! Thank you so much💛
It has been my life mission to turn the world onto this. Well, at least my friends.
Saw them Live in Abq on Thursday 8-4-22 - AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
Damn.Good.Always.
Miss you Brandy
There are some we never forget. ❤️
Never met you Brandy but nevertheless, I miss you as well.
The guitar, oh my god, the guitar slammed my, this, oh my, the guitar blew my mind like a damn nuke, the guitar tossed me around, no, call for back up rn, the guitar played me instead, I was the instrument and the guitar was the artist, I was the pavement and the guitar was a business man, I’m the shit and the guitar was the boot stepping on me, it was perfect, I definitely need to make something better than this, I don’t know how, but I have to.
Man the Transition In this song always gives me goosebumps, it’s such a mood booster
The guitar taught me portuguese and I moved to a small fishing village where the guitar broke my left arm which healed into two hands so now I could shred like a 3 handed freak at the local guitar show attended by guitars but the guitar my guitar and I was played playing guitar by guitar at guitar center and now my guitar is guitar guitar.
love this song😊
I completely forgot how good this album is.
I'm listening to this because I'm too depressed to listen to anything sad, and too sad to listen to anything happy.
Me, 21 years old, stoned as a jackrabbit, sitting in my best friend's baby blue Volvo 240, sitting in traffic, summer, new London CT, like a submarine through the ocean as I look out the window at the endless opportunity my life holds before me. He says, "I've got a song for you!"
