Who needs drugs when you can do this with your mind. Art can be a form of meditation and exploration. Loving listening to you while I'm working on my latest creation. Thank you!
Wow! Feels like you are reading my mind and we haven't even met. I feel intermediate most of the time. I feel a bit more advanced when I do artwork from observation. I want to be able to work without reference and getting better at it, but I feel I'm barely getting out of the beginner level there. Thanks for the video Steven!
19:11 The part where you said " if ever felt like drawing saved your life, then you are a master" made me cry. I've been drawing non stop, non professionally for over 35 years. My work is deeply personal, and therapeutic. I dream of drawing, my dreams look like my drawings, and they are ... a little crazy
I really like how this also applies to language acquisition. You can tell yourself it's all the vocab and grammar studying you did but in the end it's an unconscious thing that's just happening and you don't have any real control over it. It happens with every baby but people just act like it didn't when they go ahead and learn a language.
Every night from when I was about 14 to 16 years old I would meditate for maybe 40 minutes before bed. It was only 2 years so I wouldn’t say I reached any sort of proficiency but I was at least aware of what people really meant when the spoke of "mindfulness". For context I should mention my mental visualization has never been great, in fact for most of my life it’s been nonexistent, although it is getting better. But when you spoke about the exercise regarding staring at your eyelids I was instantly reminded of one time, probably the only time, that this has truthfully happened to me. I was lying in bed, focusing on my breathing, and then suddenly I was somewhere else. I was watching from behind red curtains and through a window at children playing in the snow. It only lasted for a few seconds, and honestly I don’t know if this counts because I’m almost certain it was not my memory. But it was so surreal that I’ve always wanted to tell someone who’d listen, so, here you go-there’s that off my chest then.
Thank you for sharing. You're in the right place, nothing about that strikes me as weird or unspeakable. Only interesting- very interesting. Yes, the dream like glimpses that can happen in that mindful space- they aren't just seen, they are experienced.
did you know if you meditate before bed you are able to lucid dream? ive been doing thins any time i want to Lucid dream i wish more ppl were aware, i love mediation at one point i kept a dream journal..
This is absolute gold, I love agreeing with some points and don't doing so with others, makes me feel like we are actually having a conversation and eager to work harder to feel advance more often in my life. It's priceless, thank you so much for your time Steven.
Your talks are always so interesting! They really remind me that I have a lot to learn. It's so good to think outside of the box. I would love to hear more of your podcast videos! Great work!
Wow! I just discovered your channel a week ago. Both your art and ideas about the process are deeply resonating with me. Thank you for putting this out in the world.
Art is the realisation of ideal. Breaking point. Infinity in an instant. It is the ultimate materialisation of non dualism that transcend these words and now I realised; my art is not mine and, ideas are mere limits, tethers, to this immensity of infinite commencement, creation. Beauty in incarnation, in the superfluous and useless, essence of all and the imminent. It’s an immersion in ecstasy, an ecstasy in immersion, in perception, in life. It is materialisation. Birth of ideal, a flesh, a desire. I stutter, as I stand in awe. I realised. What always was becomes. In infinity, and beyond.
Absolutely awesome, thanks Steven, art is weird, but we can relish in that weirdness. Best hour of drawing in... months? Thank you thank you thank you.
The last part of the exercise made me think of the lucid dreaming technique called WILD since you can see your daydreams for a few seconds maybe there could be a method where you use this state like you'd make objects appear as if you're lucid dreaming and making objects there. Or maybe not.
I thought when AJ(robotpencil) said that he don't think when he draws, he was just hiding THE SECRET, but looks like Pros just forget how they got here, with experience.
Is there a need to know why? Would such a knowledge kill the very unreasonable anomaly that is life, that is art? Is there such a knowledge, or do we arrive at nothingness itself. You realise that life is more than a miracle. Life is.. art. Art is becoming, it’s the mistake that makes it beautiful.

I can’t have expert amnesia because I’m not an expert
