I'm usually drawing on Strathmore 400 Series Bristol Paper Smooth with some sort of HB lead and Palomino Blackwing pencils.
I'm happy that I found you! You helped me a lot and I am thankful for your existence.
Ya what this guy said
You're words have such beautifully ingrained philosophical inclinations, and they are reflective of your soul as an artist I would say. This place you create with your work and your words create a sense of familiarity.
Thank you so much. It’s really a blessing to be able to access this information at a fraction of the price paid without advice. I fall in this rut too. But I do spend a lot of time on creativity as well which is more labour intensive as most would think. You need to juggle many things at once, but that’s better than grinding the skills exclusively
thank you for this...what you are saying is so real....usually whats real hurts but this is actually liberating. I thank TheSupreme Creator for breathing your existence. May He allow you continue this rescue mission, unshackling those under artistic bondage, for as long as it might take.
Started watching the video thinking Oh I know this.. topic doesn't really apply to me.... and then second half of the video basically had my name on it. XD Trying to reconnect to that part of myself that just wants to draw for the enjoyment of it
Love this channel.
Wow. Look at all the work in that thing!
These words are moving
That is great question
Interesting topic! I love your content!
If art is about expression, and we live in a postmodern world, then there cannot be a meritocracy. No objective values makes it impossible to decide who expressed themselves better. It is impossible to know the interior of the artist's mind, so you cannot judge whether or not they expressed themselves well. Express yoself and go about your business :D
These video came out just at the right moment i need it thanks 👍
Whole bunch of relevance and ouch in this one. Thanks.
Hey Steven what is that plugin with the quick actions?
Layer Factory
Before starting your video I'll give my opinion as am amateur artist then potentially change it based on your expert experience. I believe it is a meritocracy although the merit is subjective based on the observer. So although it is, it also kind of isn't.
If you want to enter to work in an industry, in this case art industry, there is a bottom level you will have to surpass to enter. So you can say there is a level of merit you have to achieve artwise to get inside. Merit does exist but there is no universal scale, each studio will look for the parameters that better adjust to the value they are looking for. Someone that has never drawn will never enter in the industry, someone that knows nothing of engineering wont be able to work as an engineer. There is were merit lies. Of course, randomness, luck and contacts also exist so the results will differ.
Seriously this needs to be seen more
Aaaaaaaaaannnd Steven Zapata receives another standing ovation at the podium.
You don't HAVE to have your own message to be a good artist. It's not "crazy," not to have one.
You just have to be able to deliever A message. Prefferably someones' with money, tbh.
- Look at all those "mainstream LOL artists talents" being wasted away othervise :-P
thank you
Thank you
the duct-taped banana sold for 120k has entered the chat. U_U
Most creative fields arn't meritocracies because it's not really possible to structure it that way (like you mentioned), especially with advent of the internet. Art is no different. There are expected standards of skill to reach to be marketable, but beyond that it's nebulous. It's a mistake to expect things to be totally meritocratic and this can lead to crippling navel-gazing.
First you introduce the notion that there are those individuals who are more or less capable, more or less able to "hit the mark", then proceed to doubt whether there are valid metrics of measuring one's merit? Is not one's merit the very thing you just described, their ability to "hit the mark"? Is not merit literally only measureable by one's ability to meet the expectations of a particular task or role? In that case, then shouldn't the most capable and qualified for a role be the person who occupies that role? So there is a way of measuring merit then. But your position on the spectrum of merit is ascertained by your contributions to projects and real time estimation/evaluation over time.
So literallyt he fucking definition of merit.
Jesus.
ART IS NOT SUBJECTIVE. THERE ARE OBJECTIVE CRITERIA GOOD ART FOLLOWS. THIS IS A FACT.
Your proposal of what a meritocracy would be doesn't fit would a meritocracy is. Your description of a meritocracy better describes an arbitrary hierarchy that is common in a capitalist business.
A more accurate example would be a person who has achieved apparent skill in perspective making difficult decisions about the use of perspective.
Thinking about create a religion based on those thoughts. Who will join?
