Kate Liu is baffling in her totally effortless technique. I wish I had her technique. Where does this leave Yuja Wang? Kate Liu is a true musician. The piano is playing itself under her hands.

Does anyone know why Kate decided to go to Juilliard? She already won the 3rd place at the Chopin International back in 2015... She could begin her career as a professional pianist. I was fortunate to go to her recital once in Vancouver. But I think she deserves much more..

She is indeed a remarkable talent, especially for her age, yet, I find her tempo changes and rubatos a bit extreme. It will pull you in because of her generally great musicianship and emotional depth, but it really is a bit over the top with the random dramatic overly long pauses. The languishing pianissimos also bother me. They are too disruptive to the flow, and developmental tension tends to get dissipated somehow - I haven't analyzed and figured out yet exactly what it is that bothers me about that.
