Amazing how this piece crosses time without taking a wrinkle. Maybe because everything is there. Maybe, too, or more likely, thanks to Paul Desmond’s saxophone.
The first time I was exposed to the Dave Brubeck sound with Take Five I could not get enough of that arrangement all week end. It is as fresh today than it was than in 64.
Following the Quartet’s tour of Japan in the Spring of ‘64, this would have been a relatively recent tune for them here in October of that year. The album had been recorded earlier in June. As you would expect of Jazz, all the versions you will find on YT are quite unique. Dave at the piano is outstanding at this concert in Belgium!
What a pretty piece ! I appreciate it as Japanese. There are many songs / instrumental pieces named after Japanese words ,but they don't seem to know what they're doing ,or can tell the differences between Japanese/ Chinese music !! They disappoint me !! But,not this one !! And so tastefully done ✔️ I love this band ,especially Joe Morello !! What a cool cat he was !! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
Day after day, year aftter year... I am not able to listen anything except DBQ? Why is this hapening? I LOVE THIS MUSIC DO MUCH I LAY DOWN AND WAKE UP WITH THE SAME TUNES. Tunes of DBQ. Masterpieces of jazz. NoOne can reproduce it. It is just that. THE MASTERPIECES OF JAZZ!
Schlicht weg Göttlich 🤩 The ultimate Master of Jazz Heißt , selbstredend natürlich DAVE BRUBECK 🆗 Master of Piano Play 🎹🎹🎹🎹 sowie of Saxophon Play 🎷 and of Trumpet 🎺 Play 👍 Für alle Zeiten , bis in alle Ewigkeit Basta Kameraden 🥸 ☝️
I love this album, I prefer the album version because it has more of a synthesis with jazz and traditiional japanese music. Although that bit near the end is transcendent.
All my life (as a musician) I never gave this music the attention it deserved. Never really paid attention to it. I love this so much i my old (65yrs) age now.
Superb to hear this. Didn't know it existed. Has to be said though the Belgians who filmed it made a horrible mess of the job. Not one shot of Joe Morello at the drums nor any of Eugene Wright on Bass - far too many shots of Brubeck's receding hair line and Paul Desmond's cheek dimples! Seems the film wasn't about the quartet at all. Anyhow I loved the piece and have to give it a like
That’s because he was feeling the music he was playing. He was a master at his craft. RIP to all the masters of the DBQ. Your collective genius is sorely missed.
Might be the best composition and performance ever.
the most interesting thing for me about this piece is that you can feel the deep love and respect he have for this classical japanese composition
Before my time,Maybe not I was born in 63 just too young to appreciate the genius that is Dave Brubeck . Loving it now.Rest In Peace.
Amazing how this piece crosses time without taking a wrinkle. Maybe because everything is there. Maybe, too, or more likely, thanks to Paul Desmond’s saxophone.
They were on this level at 1964... Where is our understanding of music today? Did we go to the right direction?
Lol no, we’ve devolved
The value of true music was lost over time.
😊
sad times those days today's
Yes. We went to the One Direction. 🥳
Wow amazing. 😊😊😊
What a wonderful performance.
I have the great honour see Dave Brubeck live in 1990s in Berlin.
Greatest memories.
The first time I was exposed to the Dave Brubeck sound with Take Five I could not get enough of that arrangement all week end. It is as fresh today than it was than in 64.
The great Paul Desmond was born on this day in 1924. I saw them in Glasgow at about the same time as this was recorded.
Fantastic! What was the venue? Sadly, can't find a thing about it, on a swift Google search... 🫤
Great music, thanks.
This is unbelievable, politeness and elegance together to make a song "DESMOND/ BRUBECK".
Beautiful, exact, transparent. Greetings from Opole, Poland. Always a fan of DB.
Absolutely divine,masterpiece!!!!!
That piano at 4:50 is just so beautiful...reminds me of raindrops falling every time. Love this.
of course this tune belongs to the heart of jazz
This calms me down.
Beautiful and it does have elements of Japanese music. Fascinating! I hadn't heard about this album.
Which Japanese artists do u suggest to hear?
Siempre me ha encantado su interpretacion musical gracias.
Amazing 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Still amazing

First time I ever heard of this, and damn this is amazing
Well said. Brubeck's audience was expected to listen to the music, not just be slammed
by the loudspeakers.
I love you Paul..I love you Dave..

Brubeck's Japanese impressions recorded in Belgium '64 sensacionel
I'm so sad that the full concert film was removed from RUclips. I was able to pirate it easily enough, but more people should be able to see it.
So beautiful
Que maravilla que genios ❤ son fantástico
So genial!
CUANDO EL JAZZ SE TRANSFORMA EN MAGIA MUSICAL.........!!!!!!!!
I was born in 64 in Belgium and i am a musician, if I dream a little there must be a link 😇

This is the ultimate proof that Earth was once innhabited by giants
That's the quickest 6:02 ever!
nice 1960s Jazz
Cool (or West Coast) Jazz, actually. There was also Bebop, but I like this better. Se also the Vince Guraldi Trio for masters of it.
❤
SimCity made me appreciate this music
Damn
At 00:41 the magic starts 😎
You are absolutely correct, my friend.

Why did Paul make a face at 2.32?
That’s because he was feeling the music he was playing. He was a master at his craft. RIP to all the masters of the DBQ. Your collective genius is sorely missed.
Bryl cream
This is such a beautiful song. I actually didn't like the direction the sax solo took for some reason.
Terciopelo, para el alma.Buenisimos.
