Do you happen to have instructions for keeping the compartments their original size? I would love to do this to store my 12x12 cardstock and vinyl, but i struggle with converting measurements
Creativity knows no boundaries. I admire your discipline in the process of figuring out the smallest of details. It is both beautiful and practical. Congrats..
Alternative solution for wheels....Make a furniture dolly...Construct a rectangle of 2x4 lumber. The outer perimeter of the rectangle matches the dimensions of the base of the Kallax. Attach wheels to the rectangle. Anchor attractive wood molding to the outer perimeter of the rectangle. Choose molding wide enough to both hide the raw lumber AND form a raised lip. The Kallax fits snugly within the raised lip of molding. The raised lip should be no higher than the bottom board of the Kallax. There should be no need to anchor the Kallax to the dolly. Note that you could choose a baseboard molding that is wide enough to hide the wheels from view.
This is really nice solution I can tell... Especially I like the aesthetic solution at the end of your recommendation. 👌🏼 If I have a workshop, I definitely go this way. Thank you, Valkyrie for sharing 🙏🏼 The solution I chose is more on budget and also doable almost without tools, which was my goal for now.
Oh my goodness! Your modifications to the IKEA cabinet are extraordinary! Everything is so neat, tidy and accessible. Great job! Thank you for sharing. 👍🏼
Thank you Nooncactus 🙏🏼❤️ And if you like cactuses, check the paper models of 🌵 I made: www.cutnglue.com/models/ If you like them, don't hesitate to get your template and build your own 😉
What a fantastic idea. It looks so professional. I appreciated your detailed instructions. I don't need a piece like this right now but do love the Kallax. It's great to see the potential in turning it into a piece that fits your exact needs. Great Job!
Thank you so much! This is so much easier than how I was going to do it. I have the mdf cut, now I just need to cut the spacers. So glad I couldn't sleep and came across this. 😁
The 12x12 sheets work with the original size (4 square holes)! You can skip the extra vertical inserts, and adjust the hdf board size to the exact width and depth of each ‘cubby’. 😃
It’s brilliantly simple and beautiful. Perfect for American crafting vinyl which is 12”x12” so this will work in the 4 opening version just the same. Thank you!! Please post more ideas! ❤️
Hi Carina 👋🏼 You are right. I like this idea too... And I finished the Ikea Kallax hack blueprints & instructions finally 🥳 Please, find the link in description 👆🏼😄
Really clever way to construct it. I was initially thinking routing the out MDF sides with the slots (or possible table saw cuts) but this is a much quicker and elegant solution, well done!
Thank you Carl. 🙏🏼You're right, that's a great idea! I introduced one alternative mounting to save every millimeter for wider US letter sheets. It's accomplished by pegs. You can find details in PDF instructions. 📖 The link is in the description 👆🏼
Glad it was helpful! 🙏🏼 You can find the link for finished PDF blueprints & instructions in the description finally 👆🏼 Feel free to share your result with us 🤩
Thank you Stephanie. 🙏🏼 You can do it too! To made this process as easy as possible for anybody I prepared PDF instructions 📖 Please, find the link in description 👆🏼
I love this, I have just found your channel and I'm definitely subscribing, all I need to do now is share it with my husband and ask him to do it for my card stock (I also love how you organise yoyr paper and books, it's completely how I would order them too.
So I’m thinking a magnet could lock those backs on without having to drill holes. You can glue the magnets in place. You would only need one at the top of each section and a thin wood rail at the bottom to slide the bottom edge behind. Add a loop at the top to pull the top away from the magnet. The magnet would not be flush with the upper ceiling but it would not be seen and the paper doesn’t reach the top of the space either, so it won’t get in the way functionally. I like this build. It’s great for paper junkies. Thanks for sharing.
