I think you nailed it with this bike. Very adequate budget bike. Built like a tank. Upgradable as heck. And that microshift advent X is soooo underrated. I got TRP HY/RD on mine and it’s given me tons more confidence
I run 650 X 2.8 specialized fast track tires on mine. It’s close enough that I would say you can’t run 3.0. Not super fast, but they’re not as slow as you think. You can really change the feel of the bike with tire pressure. Such a fun bike
Just popped on one of these in the same color for $749, under $800 OTD. Your review helped me make that decision over the X and the Polygon Path X4. I wish some of the options from the X were on the Redwood and vice versa. For a $100 more though seemed like the Redwood was the better buy.
I know that weight is a concern with bikes but the entire purpose of this bike is to be the most monster truck, bullet proof bike for the money for bikepacking or old school MTB.
I have that same bike including color which I love. Bought mine for bikepacking. I kept my bike stock except I had an adjustable stem installed to give me a more comfortable upright position and I replaced the tires to a more road friendly tread 27.5x1.75, using existing rims. The only issue I have experienced is that I started breaking spokes on the rear wheel, not under any load. After the 2nd spoke broke, I had my LBS replace all the spokes on the rear wheel to a better quality spoke. Just completed the Cross New Hampshire Trail without an issue.
Compression less cables makes that bike night and day. That’s what I did to mine and that’s about the only upgrade I did since this isn’t my main gravel bike
@@extreme6productions507 Completely in love with it!!! so far have about 150 miles of pure single-track miles. It's got great geometry, and now I'm setting it up for some bike-packing.. wish I could send you some video of my adventures so far. I run about 25psi in those 27.5's and it grips like crazy.. throw it into turns, and come out peddling. It is surely an awesome bike and looks completely "beast-mode!" Oh, BTW, yes I put it together myself.. tip, take up some slack on the disc brake cables by loosening the hold down at the caliper. Pull some cable through and re-tighten. The brakes will grab sooner and feel much better - good luck!
I knew this would be a good vid when you started with a pitch-perfect Doug DeMuro "ThIs". Great review. I bought a frameset when Poseidon first released the Redwood and I've configured it flat bar, drop bar, 29er, 27.5 Plus, usually with a 1x11 or 1x12 sram drivetrain. It's such a versatile platform. Gold would make a fire accent color, btw.
Haha, yeah that was a pretty good doug demuro "this" wasn't it haha. I fully upgraded mine, which i need to finish the video on eventually haha. Oooo Gold could be interesting as a accent color.
If i recall correctly. The stock tires do just fine on normal singletrack. They just arent the softest compound or are tubeless compatible if I remember right.
@@MTBRadDad i received it last Thursday assembled easy and gotta say shifts better out if the box better than mt vitus sentier(rip) and my Norco Bigfoot not that it means anything. But for the price im kinda surprised

This bike is currently $629 with promocode SUMMER, pretty great entry price.

I use to run 2.8s on a handrail, they were alot of fun.

What brand compressionless did you go with? Just pulled the trigger on a Redwood, and it's on the way. Thanks in advance
@@briand9513How are you liking the Redwood so far and did you put it together yourself? I just ordered one off their “Last Call” sale.

Great review… looks like a great gravel bike! Will have to give them a shot… good stuff MTB Rad Dad!
Thanks!
Did you mean that 29inch wheels are the same as 700c?
Thanks for the review. I am thinking about getting this bike but the main concern this the tires. What tires do you suggest using?
Thats Tough, Its gonna all depend on what you want to ride. For more road I would say the specialized pathfinder pros
Great review! Love the fact that you're chillin' on the floor for most of it! HA!
Haha thanks! And yup! Lol
With the tires it comes with do you think the bike couldn't handle easy single tracks?
If i recall correctly. The stock tires do just fine on normal singletrack. They just arent the softest compound or are tubeless compatible if I remember right.
Once I convert my X ambition to thru axle will the cassette work on DT wheel sets? I’m going compressionless this week too!
square tappers, are amazing!
What's the weight capacity?
Pretty cool bikes. I have two posiden x ... my first one has over 10k on it
👍
I have same width of bars on my Surly Midnight Special

Watch out for the ozark trail g.1 for 248
I want to get my hands on that.

700 for one rn, great deal?
I think so!
@@MTBRadDad any others under 1k you'd get over this?
How efficient is braking from the hoods?
Its ok, Will be better once I swap to compressionless housing.
Toe overlap?
It's the ultimate training bike
👍
Anyone know what the expected shipping time is?
I think they are pretty quick . I believe they ship from Southern California
@MTBRadDad didn't even wait for the answer and pulled the trigger on your exact bike lol that wine red definitely looks good

I could charge you for it instead, but I’d rather put out my videos for free 😂
