    As a Jewish planner gal, in the middle of our high holiday week, your comments about faith not being exclusive to Christians really resonated and are much appreciated. I know you had some (very fair) reservations about the planner but I'm going to order this after watching your video!

    I gasped when I heard the price. Honestly, it is too much. Half of these things you can find free printable sheets online! I do quarterly goals pages in my bullet journal and have found my process works fairly well for me. I don’t think I can justify that amount of money, particularly when one of my goals is to start saving for my family and to be more aware of my spending habits.

    • @ErinFlotoDesigns
      @ErinFlotoDesigns 6 лет назад +8

      But I also realize that is too much *for me* and not other people. But I would rather get a B5 Notebook and spend like 20 minutes a month setting things up and make it more versatile for myself when I figure out what works and what doesn’t each month 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Cindy... Thanks for the honest and thorough review. This is our first year with the new disc system and the goals planner, so we definitely want as much REAL feedback as we can get. We have spent a lot of time developing this system, but there will undoubtedly be room for improvement for 2020. We want to know what you think.
    I also understand everyone's concerns about the price. We always strive to provide the BEST quality and value we possibly can but will never skimp on materials... especially the paper... regardless of rising costs in the industry. We work very hard not to pass costs on to our customers (which is why most of our prices haven't changed since 2014), but we know we are not the lowest priced option.
    We understand that the disc system is a bigger up-front investment and a totally new format for many... which is why we now offer free returns on everything. We don't want anyone to be unhappy and feel stuck with something they're unsure about using, and we want them to feel like they can try it out.
    Thanks again, and I truly hope you do use the planner AND film your progress so we can see what you and your fans want to see for 2020.

    Yes, you were critical and nitpicky, but the price point invites criticism. I think I pay for the overall system focused on goal setting plus the incredible paper quality.

    This was a good and fair review. I had the same concerns as you and agree with your critiques. I once tried to use the IWP A5 inserts for a ring planner and the tab dividers were bent within the first few days and I gave up on them by March. The paper is excellent--no question--but many of the things, while nice, are definitely overpriced for what you get. (I also don't care much for the bonus videos. 😉)

  • @nats6190

    Thank you so much for this review. I exclusively use a discbound planner now, and I feel that doing a DIY setup is the way to go. Once you have covers, rings, and hole punch, then you can just invest in a pack of good quality paper and print off all the spreads you could want, using either free printables (from places like Day Designer and Passion Planner) or cheap printable PDFs on etsy. I've tried Arc and TUL in the past and hated how much the pages got caught on the rings while turning. Levenger Circa has definitely been the way to go. I feel systems like the Inkwell Press discbound system are way too expensive for what you get. I do not want to spend 50 cents per notes page when I can buy a 500-page pack of 32-lb paper for $10.

    Thanks for posting this. I'm excited that they've offered this option since she no longer offers inserts for the A5 Classic. I just bought the metal expander disks for the Happy Planner at Joann..they were $19.99...i used a 50% off coupon they're double the size for the expansion. According to IWP...their expander disks are a disc of stainless with the inside carved out as opposed to 'other brands' that use a mold. I never had a problem with the plastic ones breaking, i like the look of the metal, so happy to go with the less expensive version!

    I feel like this was a fair review Cindy. When I watched their launch live video of all the products, I felt like they were pushing the fact that you can “reuse things year to year” as a way to soften the blow of the enormous prices.. and I was skeptical about how the products would stand up from year to year and also, planner peeps love to change out stuff!! I also agree that creating one template and then just sticking multiple copies of it in the package does seem skimpy versus changing things up even a little throughout the quarter check ins. It does seem that this pack helps think about life in general but it does seem to fall short of really tracking multiple goals throughout 12 months. I love your suggestions - I think it’s great feedback for consideration for future versions - and also gives people who did buy it ideas to supplement it. I’d be interested to see what you end up doing with it and I’m sure you’ll make creative and functional pages to create a more complete system.

    Please show us how you fill this out! But I actually would like to see this in December (I guess October is close enough to the end of the year) but I find that when I have a plan to change something and I fill it out early, everything changes by the time that it is supposed to happen. (ie: thinking about self assessments at work, like by the time boss and I sit down to talk about things I am "working on" it was months ago and I have new things I want/need to work on) either way I would still love to see you fill this this out but also follow up if possible? I feel like I am strong in the beginning and then fall off the wagon when it comes to follow up.

    Hey, Cindy! Thanks for another friggin’ honest review. 2018 is the last year I will buy anything from Inkwell Press. I started using them exclusively in 2016. Thank you for pointing out that faith= Christian issue, also a pet peeve of mine! I am not religious, as in "I don't follow any religion", but have my very own patchwork-religion, taking what I am able to subscribe to from many religions. My so is a taoist, we are both spiritual, but Christianity doesn't work for us as a "faith". May I ask, what faith/religion you follow? Just curious, because you are sort of my role-model on YT :-)

    I really like Inkwell Press and I would have liked to get one, but cost is a huge inhibitor with all this. They're overly nickel-and-diming us with this year's new release, in my opinion. I think their other options are slightly less expensive, but I hate the coils on their hard bound, and the coil-free one is super flimsy from what I heard last year. I can't carry around a 6 ring binder for the a5 inserts either. Oh well. Maybe next year. As always, totally appreciate your honest opinion on the product.

    Thank you for doing this review. Three general thought topics having watched the full video:
    1) I shouted, "wait you missed the pages" .... It didn't help you. 🤣
    2) I agree on the tabs longevity concern 🤨, I too fell for the 50 pages vs 50 sheets 🙄, & yes the paper is just so fine so I forgave them 😆.
    3) I did watch the set up video and will still just do what I want anyway. It might help if you give this planner's specific video a chance because it is fairly short (12:24) & explains why not all 10 as well as the purpose of the year spread ("matrix" per IWP). Start at about 5:50 if you wanna skip ahead. It actually makes sense. I may ignore that anyway but good to know the thinking behind the set up.
    Thanks again for reviewing the product and sharing. Having gotten through your full review I'm quite curious to see if you use it and what you think.

    This planner is interesting. I agree with you about faith. Not only are the Christendom themed most of the time, but littered with crosses and that fish. Why?

    • @ifeo.9774
      @ifeo.9774 5 лет назад

      The Cross and fish are used on different items because they are symbolic and meaningful for Christians www.a-simple-christian.com/christian-fish.html
      www.crosswalk.com/special-coverage/lent/what-is-the-meaning-of-the-cross.html
      If you are not a Christian, it probably would not mean much to you, but it's hardly "littering".
      We can have different beliefs and still be respectful of others' ☺

    That “Your Life Wheel” looks like a knock off of the Level 10 Life stuff Boho Berry promoted for so long. My issue with this goal setting kit is that it assumes that people have jobs and kids. Lots of retired people need planners, people who don’t have kids need planners, etc. as an aide to the Faith normally being Christian - it’s generally a bad attempt at Christian. Like the stickers your can buy normally are holidays that have become commercial. An example is that there are tons of Mardi Gras stickers but it’s rare to find things for say Holy Saturday.

    I'm actually just now getting started with discbound planners and like....considering I have/had made my own inserts for traveler's notebooks, pocket, personal and half sheet size ring planners...it's kind of a no brainer to just print my own and settle on a punch, and the only things I really need are the discs and a cover. Like that $24.99 for some printed paper better have a lot of value because it's not hard for me to just print out a calendar, goalsetting sheets, etc, on my own and punch them once I buy a punch...

    Thanks for the review. I was considering getting this goal planner in place of my powersheets for next year, and now I may reconsider it because of several things in this review. I do agree that the lack of in-month check-ins is a problem, and the quarterly check-ins. The powersheets shines in that regard. I love the wheel thingy though. I think more goal-setting planners should incorporate those for ideal weeks and days.
    But yeah, for the price... Not so much.
    I just caught a sale on Levenger discs for 17.99 (normally $27-ish) so their disc price is comparable.

    Thanks for doing this video, Cindy. I do think it's way overpriced. That said, I am biased. I have a love-hate relationship with disc systems, but I am positively allergic to goal-planning workshops. I did so many of them when I was working, and to me they always just seemed like the flavor of the week. None of them had any longevity within the organization, and I came to view them with the same disfavor I do the faith-based planning systems. Please excuse the rant. Anyway, no -- I won't ask you to show us how you use this in more detail later this year. But I do thank you heartily for putting yourself out there to give us a more detailed look at this Inkwell Press product.

    I love that Inkwell is encouraging a more eco-friendly way of planning by reusing your cover for more than one year. It's a pet peeve of mine that Erin Condren forces you to get a new plastic cover with each new planner. A few designs is nice, but once again my personal opinion is that a zillion choices just encourages a "more! more! more!" mindset which is super wasteful. Yeah the tabs may start looking a little worn after a year (but maybe not since you probably won't be taking them in and out), but you can replaces them if/when that happens instead of automatically starting over with a new set each year. I love it! Wish more companies allowed you to minimize your waste and live a less disposable life.

    I truly appreciate your honest review. I have been an IWP since 2015 I think. I wasn't exactly thrilled about getting a disc system - mostly because they've always felt less solid. .I was a bit annoyed that some items were not part of the 'main planner'. Things like dividers and the ruler/bookmark. They shouldn't have been separate items. I ordered a weekly and goal setting planner, but like you, felt that it needed additional items in order to work on the goals. I want to do that in one place. Added the dot matrix paper and the project planner pages. All together, I spent well over $200 which is absolutely ridiculous for planners. So here's the thing. The only thing I see myself reusing next year are the rings. I will likely get a new cover even if I don't need it because you know, that's what we do, we like the new and shiny things. I too was disappointed with how it was marketed. It was slightly off putting. But in the end, decided that it was a product that I am happy with and enjoy using. I love the aesthetics, colors and flow of the planners. And yes! 100% in agreement with you on religion/faith. I noticed that the goal planner did not lean towards a religion, and as a non practicing Christian, but deeply spiritual person, I certainly appreciated it! Would love to see a walk through of your goal setting!! I'm starting mine in October as well.

    Thank you for this review! I was very interested in this goal planner and the project planner.
    I'm planning on using a Happy Planner next year and I thought it'd be cool to add some of these inserts to it. Now, I'm not sure. They seem very structured. I'm not sure how I feel about that, or the price. I like structure, but this seems like too much. I prefer the Passion Planner's take on goal setting and monthly check-ins.
    It would be awesome to see how they work out for you. Please do a video!
    I had an IWP a few years ago and the setup videos helped me a lot. I didn't stick with the planner but the advice on functional planning helped.
    I agree with you about "faith" planners. I love Happy Planners, but I can't stand their faith planners. There are other religions than Christianity. It would be nice to see more diversity in all planner companies offerings when it comes to religious planners.
    If you're needing notes pages, maybe use the MAMBI paper punch? I punched a bunch of notebook paper after trimming it to the correct size. It works. I saved money. Win-win!

    I’ve used the IWP for 2 years and I absolutely love their paper. However I had an issue with how their customer service handled a mistake on one of their very expensive planners. So after tons of research, I moved to the disc bound system and love it. (NOTE: I felt the same way you do about them). My current dividers could be used again because they held up so incredibly well and I change the color of my discs frequently.

    I am only 2 minutes in and thinking... why didn't you get the pretty box?

  • @AxisOAnarchy
    @AxisOAnarchy 6 лет назад

    I'm curious how the size compares to a Standard Happy Planner. It looks like there are more discs which isn't a problem for me as I have extras but I'm curious if the pages are a similar size.

    • @CindyGuentertBaldo
      @CindyGuentertBaldo  6 лет назад

      I stuck a classic page in there at the end - it fits, but the pages are bigger than the IWP (overhang on top and bottom)

    • @AxisOAnarchy
      @AxisOAnarchy 6 лет назад

      Ah! There it is. I'm thinking of doing the reverse. Use the note pages in my existing Happy Planner. I don't think it would bother me having them shorter depending.... May have to price and paper compare.

    God I love you, I've decided you're my spirit sister (for many reasons) & I can't stop either...was $pending at Blick & Target the other day. This actually looks like a pretty cool system though - I'm not too fond of their designs but I do like their content & paper quality.

      I wonder if I combined this with the happy planner whether it would bother me...HP has better colors (IMO) and I'm more apt to use it if I think it's pretty.

    My most favourite binding system is disc bound and I can tell everybody who has their doubts that it usually holds up really well. You of course have the bending, but that usually does not minimize the functionality. I even use the system at the office and we put simple 80 gramms printer paper in it and put pages in and out all the time - no problem there! Usually you don't move the pages that often.
    But I have to agree, that after one year of heavy usage it might not bring you joy anymore. On the other side: it might be nice to reuse the cover, but where would I archive the pages? So it's highly unlikly most people would reuse it anyway.
    I'm absolutely with you on the don't-tell-me-how-to-live-my-life! I find IWP planners very beautiful and I was overly excited when I saw the 360 system. But I don't find anything I can't do myself with Happy Planner metal discs. Except 140 gramm paper - I can't find that anywhere! :-D
    And - I am Christian, but am also very annoyed by the assumption, that everybody is! I can write my holidays into my planner myself. But the Life Wheel is inspired by the Level 10 Life - there one category is "spirituality", so they might just have taken it from there.
    Please include your goal setting process in your videos - it would be very interesting!

    Could you do a review of the new version of the Day Designer planner? The Today & To Do planner. I’m not sure if it would be something that would fit in your life but if so I’d love to know your thoughts. Thanks for this video! I do love inkwell press paper.

    The dividers for ARC are all the pvc/plastics stuff that I’m assuming is what is on the edge of the cover. That means you can rip those suckers out of the discs over and over again...IWP would have dont better to have something like that if they intend for their dividers to be reused.

    Geeez! Admittedly I’m retired but if I had used a planner like that one when I worked, I would not have had time to get any work accomplished. Way too structured for my taste. My anxiety increased as you went through each form that needed to be filled out. Ha ha. Thanks for the review.

    I'm right there with you... I was SOOOO excited about this launch because I'm a diehard happy planner girl, but it's a little too cutesy for me. But fuck that's so expensive. I was just going to get the weekly inserts and tabs (which I'm happy I havent ordered yet cause no thanks) but it would be like 50 bucks. And I'd use my own cover and discs.
    Meh. I love it, but I don't know if i can justify that price

    This was a very thorough and fair review! I am on the fence about getting one or more of the IWP disc bound planner inserts. Luckily, I have some similar sized pieces, like cover and discs, since I’ve been using a Happy Planner. However I still felt the inserts were a bit expensive overall. And for folks who are first timers to the disc system, it could be quite an investment. $85 and you don’t even have a full planner here. 😱 This should have had at least included a monthly spread and note pages as part of the goal planner instead of sold separately, imo.
    I agree with you on the religion/faith aspect. It’s a pet peeve of mine and I grew up as a practicing Catholic. Still prefer a more general spirituality reference (or nothing at all) in my planner.
    I’d love to see how you’d complete this. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    Okay so I am still on my planner journey and I felt like I was in school I took all the notes. There is no way on God's green earth I would pay $85 for the planner because I am going back to school and my leather bound planner and my ringlet planner (work planner and health track pre bujo days) barely made it after 6 months and my happy planner was the same ordeal. Now I appreciate the review because I want to look into a goal planner because I have things I want to accomplish. And you game some lovely perspective in what I want to buy. I did take that maybe they were catering to people who work on one goal per month. And two planning stage months but still doesn't justify the prices. But thank you for the review. Off to planner hunt I go.

    I totally I agree with your critique of the covers, tabs and price. Kudos to them for not assuming everyone is Christian. I have a been a disc bound planner person for about 5 years and I do love Inkwell paper, colors and esthetic, so I begrudgingly forked out the money.

    I love IWP and used their A5 inserts in my Filofax for years, but this was a very fair review. I agree with you completely on the high price point and the durability of the tabs. They offered those same tabs one year for the A5, and they did not hold up very well.

  • @thepwicks

    Your review was spot on..... i would have been disappointed if you got the flex or classic inserts with discs. Funny i got the powersheets years ago and thought it was too much work so the fact that there is not as much stuff in their goals planner may be ok with me. Ps you should have compared happy planner tabs with the iwp one.... happy planner tabs last me forever i can repurpose after the year is over.... iwp a5 insert tabs barely last me 6 months (looks like these are the same material as the a5 insert tabs).

    8 Discagenda silver aluminum discs, which have a big round cutout, cost me $12 on Amazon. Which was a bargain. Usually, it's about twice that much for Levenger.
    Disc bound planner users often "frankenplan" a lot, because all the systems are basically interchangeable - the distance between the discs is the same no matter who. I keep both A5 and half-sheets in my junior (8 disc) Arc, for example, and they're slightly different dimensions. Which I'm okay with but I can see how it would be bad for others.
    I think the very things that I love about disc bound planners are the things that you dislike (yay for diversity of opinion!) And goal setting planners are...not something I'm ready for just yet. But I did love those colors and that paper seemed beautiful.
