In Germany's DFB Cup, the lower ranking team is automatically the match host. I quite like this, because it means the lower ranking (and therefore probably poorer) club gets the attendance money and possibly the excitement of hosting a big club on their grounds.
I think this would alleviate some of the concerns about replays being eliminated (as far as I understand the issue).
Probably fun for the "big team" fans travelling to a ground they would never normally visit too.
I agree. The French equivalent, Coupe De France does this too.
It’s the opposite in England. A smaller club would prefer to have the match away and a replay at Wembley due to the additional cash. The irony is, if the replay was against a lower or equally ranked team they probably wouldn’t.
Attendance money is split 50/50 in the FA Cup. So rubbish idea
Yeah I think that’s a great way of doing things, at least from round 3 to round 5 could really benefit those overachieving lower ranked sides.
That being said, I also understand the dream for these lower level team players and fans to have an away trip to the big teams
Nieve is my Professor when it comes to learning about English Football
That's tragic mate
@@Feministdebator Brutal.
She’s a legend.
@@russell-di8js Lmao
@@Feministdebator :O
If it’s a draw at 90 mins, the ref should ask the fans by doing a gladiator type thumbs up or down to decide if there should be a replay
Rasmus Hojlund would attend every FA Cup fixture then.
VAR needed to count all the thumbs

Now give us the silly one
3:45 A traditional warm and welcoming Millwall greeting captured there. Beautiful 😆
nah, they are pathetic sad people.
3:33 Honorable mention 🤣
@@direray2411 LOL! Well spotted! 🤣
As a Hammers fan, I love that she focused on the ‘No ball games’ sign.😅
"No one likes us, we don't care".
If you don't care why do you constantly go on about it then?
Best televised game of the weekend was Tamworth vs Spurs foregone conclusion but was still a cracking game and the sight of the Tamworth players fixing the net at the start was priceless thats what makes the FA cup so special something the blazer wearers at the FA should consider before letting the Premier league have everything their own way as usual bring back replays !
To be fair, not sure Spurs felt like the game was a foregone conclusion on 85 minutes when a single moment of fortune could've seen them knocked out!
I'd rather have replays than have UEFA clubs compete in the Carabao
Just thinking of that Coventry City v United semi final last year. Hard to say the FA cup has lost its magic when we had a game like that in such recent history.
Coventry’s run in the cup in general last year was magnificent.
I remember watching that on the box even though I dont support either team and how i felt gutted for Coventry who i think wee cheated blind by corrupt VAR officiating..
We were robbed, and it still hurts!
I'm a Cov fan, was at Wembley and I've still not recovered from that. I still remember those 30 seconds and then to go out like that was horrific. At least VAR can never take those 30 seconds away lol
@@RatedR_88 Pity about Mark Robbins. A very strange Board indeed.
Where next for Lampard - Plymouth Argyle?
I like the way that you say something funny whilst keeping a straight face.
She has mastered deadpan humour.
I agree. Nieve is the modern and--presumably--female Buster Keaton.
1:44 Diabolical adding the clip of you roasting Carra and I absolutely Love It!!! You’re an amazing creator. Absolute class
For FA Cup ties between teams in different divisions, if the team in the lower division wins they get to pick a player on loan for the rest of the season.
Would be hilarious if Salah ended up having to spend a few months at Plymouth
Pieface would be chuffed
Brilliant
Now do a silly answer
Plymouth could use that. Pieface gone!
I had a similar idea (but the lower League team could only pick players not in the PL team's starting line up). This is better though, and gets my vote
I think the lower league team should host. When the team that's supposed to win hosts, the fans don't show up because they expect it to be a walk in the park. If Dag and Red hosted a Championship side like Millwall you can bet the stands would be packed. They wouldn't be annoyed at the presumed formality of a game like Millwall were. I still remember Sutton hosting Arsenal was when I fell in love with the FA cup.
I think I remember that, that was the pie incident wasn't it :D
Don't the lower league clubs earn more money through shared gate receipts when they're drawn away, particularly to a club with a much larger stadium?
To get the magic back: 1.Get rid of sponsors..2. Restore 3pm Sat ok time for the final 3.Bring back replays..
Great vid Nieve as ever!
out of interest, why would you think removing sponsors would improve? it feels we should want as much money in the cup as possible? Not an attack, genuinely interested in your thoughts.
@@BigKC3 :O
Related to point 2 the FA cup should be the last game of the season (at least domestically)
1. Axe the League Cup (who are these absolute weirdos who insist it’s “more exciting” than the FA Cup?) 2. Get the Saudis - or some other, preferably less murdery, rich bastards - to pump billions into the competition. If modern football is all about money, then you’ve gotta lean into that. 3. Don’t just bring back replays, bring back *unlimited* replays - in every round inc. the final - like we used to have until the early 90s.
Personally with the FA Cup I would keep the replays until the Quarter Finals, also I move the Semi Finals from Wembley and back to neutral grounds, for someone like Sheff Wed the revenue from hosting a Semi Final would more than make up for not having a replay against a PL team. Cracking content Neve as always.
I agree. Semis at neutral grounds save many fans the cost and time of a trip to London and it also makes a trip to Wembley a special occasion.
Not sure Hillsborough, of all places, should ever be a semi-final ground again. Others maybe - not Hillsborough.
@@charlietwotimes Yes, excellent point. The stand isn't much better now and the attitude of the local police to visiting fans is appalling.
I must saw I was a immediately taken by your attitude on the fan debate about beckham and salah, now you’re apart mine and my girlfriends routines. You are a breath of fresh air and a great representation for young women. Well done lass 🤝
I love the FA Cup - been to a game in every round this season. Started with 9th tier Hucknall Town and followed that path through - Exeter v Forest for me in round 4!
I was born during an FA Cup replay, and a replay of the final nonetheless, still known as one of the dirtiest games ever played, if there was no replays then would I even exist now?!?!?!? 🤣
all fa cup ties between premier league teams and lower league teams should be decided by rock, paper scissors in the centre circle and make it best of 3 so replays return. or premier league teams have to have the legs of the 2 best players tied together like they were running a three legged race........ now i just wait for my phone to ring with the fa offering me a job
I’m shocked the FA haven’t got in touch with you sooner to move forward with these ideas.
i have load that they ignore, one goal keeper must wear a blindfold for the first half and its decided by a game of curby outside the stadium. managers decide the other teams starting 11, for champions league games the centre circle display must have a ball in it as they shake it and if the ball comes out the away team get a 1 goal advantage. so many ideas
Brilliant idea here

I just typed "I love you, yes you do, gonna spend all my money you." on RUclips and stumbled upon a gem. Thanks.
Hi Nieve, I love your videos, but sometimes your voice goes missing due to the background noise, and often when you are making a point very important to the content. Any chance you could add in these bits afterwards with dubbing? Not meant to be a diss, just some constructive criticism from an older fan (with dodgy hearing).
Very impressive on The Overlap, too BTW.
When I use my mic it tends to pick my voice up a lot better, but as ridiculous as it sounds my disorganisation extends to me forgetting my mic regularly. In these cases, in future, I’ll put in subtitles or do a little voice over instead! Appreciate the feedback, it was something I was also a bit concerned about when I watched this video back on RUclips.
@@stuntpeggnieve No worries! I am super-disorganised too, so I feel your pain. Keep on making awesome videos!

I have been watching football for over 60 years, and this lass still know far more than me.
Fun fact: The last time these 2 teams met, Harry Kane scored a brace against Dag & Red in a 5-0 win for Millwall
Damn
Great video, Nieve. Bring back FA Cup Replays! They should never have been scrapped in the first place.
your content and knowledge is just amazing...
I come for the cheap intro only..never disappoints tbf
I liked the idea of the teams being able to decide before a ball was kicked amongst themselves whether or not to have a replay. There would have to be some kind of decider if they didn’t agree but could be far fairer than outright scrapping
Thx for all the laughs Nieve. You make football fun.
Im a Dagenham fan i thought i saw someone who looked a bit stunt pegg- like in the Millwall end. I cant believe it was actually you.

Great vlog… the lowest ranked team when the draw takes place should be the home team and all games straight to pens after the 90. ET gives those were bigger

When teams in the cup are more than 3 tiers of football apart, the lower tier club may opt, any time they concede a goal, to challenge the scorer to a dance-off, which will be judged by RayGunn (if available). If they win, the goal is disallowed and play continues from a by-kick.
Great! Now, what's your silly suggestion?
Bad Manners, Millwall and the fa cup,I love this video. I think the media has down played the importance and historical importance of the fa cup. I remember as a nipper in the 80's when the final was on, it really was a big deal. The fa cup starts soon after the final, it including teams I've never heard of in leagues at the bottom of the pyramid, may be TV coverage of the whole fa cup journey may generate more interest.....from the football geeks like me at least.
True : I go back further and before the 70s the Cup Final was a huge day !
@@willie2761 It was one of the few occasions we got to see live footie on the TV.
Awesome as always !
As a Cray Valley (PM) F.C. fan (and former player), holding Charlton Athletic to a 1-1 draw at The Valley in 2023/24 season was brilliant, as was the replay, when 1,600+ were crammed into "The Millers" ground for the replay (which was lost 6-1). The FA Cup certainly hasn't lost its popularity among non-league clubs.
3:37 great choice of song 🎶
What’s the song?
@ Special Brew by Bad Manners
The Replay was one of the best features of the FA Cup. Also, I like the rule from other Cups that the team from the lower league always hosts. Silly incentive: beat a higher league side, get 1 point multiplied by the difference in Pyramid Steps between the teams (so, if Kings Lynn Town were to defeat Brentford, they would get 5 points in their league table).
Everytime id get off the sofa to leave for the kitchen, i would always hear the dreaded words, "Oh, make is a cuppa, would you?"
Those words cut deep...
Or if I stick the kettle on and hear “are you making a brew in there?”
@stuntpeggnieve Haha another classic...
I recommended noise cancelling earphones, works a treat against sneaky tea requests 😁
In terms of incentives:
A) give the winners of the Cup one of the Champions League places (now in practice that's not changing the qualifying teams drastically, but does inventivise teams to place their best for the competition)
B) where relevant, the lower league team becomes the home team automatically, with those in the same league reverting to the home "drawer" being first
A is a nonstarter as it’s not allowed by UEFA. The only way to increase the value of the FA Cup to clubs is increase the prize money. That’s it.
So, by that reckoning, last season would have seen Manchester United qualify for the CL as FA Cup winners instead of Aston Villa.
I can't get enough of this silly British humour mixed with actual deep football lore.
Indeed
So glad u came to my Area nieve❤❤
The Roly-Poly comment, then asking for a silly answer was enough to make me like the video 😂
0:45 Most relatable thing anyone's ever said. I will not make a cup of tea out of spite if I was going to make one anyway just because they said "I'll let you make a drink"
Haa!! That wording makes it even worse doesn’t it.

FA Cup and Coupe de France are a proper knockout tournaments which every country should have. These are the tournaments where football meet its core.
The gentleman that marries StuntPegg better have knowledge and enjoyment of football!
Nieve you never fail to put a smile on my face 💯
If games went straight to penalties instead of extra time (which I think should always be the case anyway, but that's a topic for a different day) then I would 100% take the game being decided on the night over a replay.
I'm a Torquay fan and a couple of seasons ago we were at home to Derby in the FA Cup. 2-0 down at HT, but in the second half we came back (thanks to a penalty and a sending off) and got an equaliser with pretty much the last kick of the game. At that time the balance of confidence would have been entirely on our side and we would have had every chance to win there and then. With everything that comes with it, the extra prize money for winning, the guaranteed extra money win or lose in the next round, the chance of ANOTHER big game in the next round and, of course, just the mood boost of having beaten a much better team.
Instead we got a replay at and got thumped 5-0. Was that worth half the gates at a half full Pride Park...?
I'd also like to add that your comment about £17 being the (very reasonable) price of a ticket is another reason why the argument for replays isn't as strong. Big teams charge less for cup games than league games, so half of their gate is not actually as much as people expect.
my favorite yt channel 😻
I think part of the problem is that lower tier teams do benefit tremendously from more matches, but higher tier teams suffer from match overload. So no matter what, someone gets screwed
As a fan of a team that's forever in league 1 or 2, FA cup is the most exciting part of the season. I just hope for round 3 each time for a chance to play a prem club
Love that dry humour. ❤
If scores are locked at FT, just play extra time with extra footballs on the pitch.
Kinda like pinball with the multiball feature.
Love your vids, from a spurs fan
They should organise one mega game for all teams that draw in the 3rd round, medieval football style - 2 giant teams of like 200 players each with the goals a mile apart up on some moorland in the peak district or something. The winning side (comprised of half of the remaining clubs) goes through.
Great video Nieve, up the Dags⚔️
Spot on as always. The likes of carragher don't have a clue
The team from the lower league must ALWAYS be the host. And the cup match must ALWAYS consist of one game, in case of a draw - extra time and penalties. It's all very simple, and thus two problems are solved at once - there are no extra, unnecessary matches, and the poorer and weaker teams get a chance to earn money. This system works in many national cups.
The league cup should simply be cancelled forever. That's it.
I get the feeling you'd be a sound editor for Homes Under the Hammer if RUclips didn't exist - saying the brew analogy in order to squeeze in a Bad Manners song is the kinda thing they've always done on that show 🤣
Nice video lass.🎵⚽️🏆🍀
I hope I’m not the only one but when you’re commentating in the stands around the fans I would appreciate subtitles 🙌 love the content keep it up!
I've read that the fa cup could scrap extra time aswell in favor of going straight to penalties. I think that it would be an advantage to the underdog teams like Tamworth etc, to go straight into penalties after a 90 minute draw with a premier league club. I think that fa cup replays are a bit much in the schedule of clubs, but i could see how its beneficial for the lower clubs to get an opportunity to travel when facing bigger opponents. I think going straight to penalties is ideal though, because the lower clubs are always going to be at a disadvantage in a 90 minute game.
The North American Soccer League had a shootout 1 v GK from 35 yards out with a five-second time limit, based on 5 rounds
I feel it would cheapen the competition though, feeling less "proper" than "serious" competitions that incorporate the extra time.
Every stadium StuntPegg attends for a match should receive an automatic $500 for every fan that recognizes her from the league event. Then the players have to do a summersault into a penalty shot. If they miss the other team receives the cash.
Dageham and Redbridge, Two football clubs?.... No, I just don,t know how to emphasise words correctly.

Great Music by the way.
Never thought i would see my club appear on this channel. I had a fantastic time in away end COYDs 🔴🔵🗡
Great video as usual. You need to grab a lapel mic dude
it seems that these non league clubs would benefit most from being guaranteed hosting at least one game against a league club. It’s so unique having it tiny stadiums, and I’m sure they gain a bunch of revenue from doing so
If a team drawn is in a lower league then they automatically play at home. Helps them bring in ticket sales and provide a bit of buzz in the community. Might get some new local support
but given that ticket sales are shared 50/50 in the FA Cup, would they not prefer the chance of more tickets sold at a bigger venue?
@ maybe, could do it that they can choose? Idea probably needs tweaking but think the ideas there
Don’t get involved Heather small 😂 top notch deadpan Nieve 👏🏻
My home town club got the furthest they have gone in 80 years this year playing away at Harrogate town on the telly it was magical 😊
3:34 Millwall fans have, shall we say, a reputation 😆
I’m just digging the Bad Manners 😎
From a non british football fan, don't you think that a single round is actually better for the smaller clubs because of the higher chance of actually moving on if the bigger team doesn't respect them?
Also, i don't know if you guys do the same as in France, where the bigger club gives the financial incentive to the small (often non professional clubs) the prize money, because quite often the big clubs don't need the few Ks they receive. Granted, those numbers don't climb in the hundreds of ks until the later rounds, but you get the gist.
Cheers! Ty for all the amazing content
Simple.
1: Bring back replays.
2: Have a cash incentive for players from third round onward. The NBA Cup (which is copying the football cup model, and also sponsored by emirates) gives the winning team 500k to every player. I suggest doing something like that (obviously less money than that) from the third round. It’s a massive incentive for lower level teams and young players on less money, and adds a new dynamic. Thoughts?
0:27 Lewis was made the permanent manager early the day this video was released.
Also, Ivanovic's goal against Dagenham & Redbridge is definitely one of THE goals of all time.
Dag and Red mentioned I'm chuffed
For the 3rd round apart from two televised games all games to kick off at 3pm on the Saturday
My team, Maidenhead United, were one of the first teams to be screwed over by the new rule. In the 6th minute of added time we conceded and equaliser having dominated the whole game in a first round tie vs Crawley Town. They went on to score the winner in extra time. This is just a case of the law makers bending over backwards to accommodate the Premier League. My proposed rule - if a team doesn't want to play replays they either don't enter the competition or the start the tie 3-0 down. We have the unenviable record of the longest time to fail to reach the second round of the cup. The last time was 1886!.
The usual fantastic quality vlog Nieve . You certainly delve into the history and always give a beautifully balanced and humorous presentation Thank You for sharing
They should scrap replays, but if the game between teams in different divisions ends in a draw the team in the lower division progresses and the team in the higher division has to crawl around the pitch as a lap of shame.
When a team from a lower division is drawn against a team from a higher division; if the game then goes to extra time, the lower division team should be awarded a financial bonus. But tbh replays probably should be reinstated up until maybe the quarter finals
The decision to scrap replays was a disgrace. Yet again the Premier league looking after its own and sod everyone else.
Tamworth deserved a replay at Spurs which would have been a fantastic experience for their players and earned them a sizeable sum of money to boost chances of progression up the pyramid.
Excellent video as always, thank you.
Anyway, my team Leyton Orient who have lost just one match in their last 16, have drawn Manchester City in the next round of the FA Cup. For me this competition has not lost any of its glamour. I am pleased there are no more replays, even down in the third tier of football, we are struggling to fit all the matches in. Remember we have the EFL Vertu Trophy, League One and FA Cup. With much smaller squads in the lower divisions, injuries are a growing concern the more matches you play.
Before the fixture both teams vote if they want a replay or to settle it on the day. If one team votes replay then it goes to a replay. 2 league one teams playing each other - they probably want a replay which is fair enough
The issue is that they complain about FA Cup replays for having too many games, then schedule post-season friendlies on the other side of the world for no reason other than ££. It’s the hypocrisy
There is apparently not enough time for the top PL clubs to compete in the 2 domestic cups - so scrap the league cup (it was only invented to try and rival European football in the 1960s)
Allowing you to bring back replays - probably only one replay, I remember the early 80s when Arsenal and Liverpool bored each other in three replays - but apparently record is 6
If there is the gap of more than one division between the teams then there is no extra time and after 90 mins goes to a replay. Same division or only one above or below and it gets decided on the night through extra time and pens or just pens
The issue with scrapping replays is moreso down to the unnecessary extra time. Extra time only really benefits the higher level teams, as that's when fitness and mental fatigue really comes into play. Think if you have no replays - you have to go straight to penalties. But the magic of the cup, was the replay. I know some teams don't want them - but it should be a decision between the two clubs. Think the way of doing it would be to offer the chance to agree to a replay before the game. If they don't agree to a replay, then the home team should get to decide - then the draw also has an added jeopardy to it.
