Thanks for all the research. I started with Craftsman, then ran into Proto tools in the service. My first battery hand tools were craftsman. Settled in with Milwaukee. I still am amazed at how much power these hand tools have!

Here's how I see the landscape in Western Europe:
    Most popular on jobsites:
Bosch blue & Makita, probably in a 2 way tie
    Dewalt
    Shelf space in hardware stores:
    Black & Decker
    Bosch green
    Ryobi
Your typical homeowners garage will probably have something from Worx, Parkside, B&D, Ferrex, Wesco
Hikoki, Metabo, Werku, Stanley Fatmax(=Craftsman) are somewhat represented
Milwaukee, Hilti, Festool at pro suppliers but rarely seen in the wild
Flex, Snap On, Mac & AEG(=Ridgid) are pretty rare
Porter Cable, Kobalt, Hercules, Bauer, Hart are non-existent

Thanks for the 2022 update! I have to say Black and Decker breaks my heart a little. I grew up seeing orange and black everywhere and now I don't even see it. Think about the last time you walked thru a big brand hardware store and saw a B&D display. It's obvious Stanley bought them out to stick them in the corner on permanent timeout.

    • @drscopeify
      @drscopeify Год назад

Actually Black and Decker bought Stanley. At the time the main competition was Bosch so they created Dewalt also sounding German name to compete and they just happened to put all the effort in to Dewalt and it was successful so Dewalt is just the new child of Black and Decker, it's all the same company New Craftsman, Dewalt, Black and Decker, etc At least Stanley assembles many power tools here in the USA even some motors and plastic molds are USA made that is way more than any other company by far more than TTI haha. Look for the USA flag on Dewalt and Craftsman power tools. I try and buy them when possible.

LuTool makes Bauer, the Daytona Super Jack's are made in the same factory as SO Jack's (exact same jack). A lot of the stationary tools are the same factories that make grizzly tools and a few other common off brand.

Very thorough! In the 80's I got my first cordless tools which were a Skill drill and some sort of Craftsman driver. Then I got my Makita 6093 with the long stick battery and life was never the same again. The Skill and original Craftsman are long gone, but the Makita lives on. If the rpms weren't maxed out at like 500 and the batteries were not more expensive than a new Makita, I would probably still use it! Speaking of power, in the late 80's when I was roofing houses, I picked up a Milwaukee cordless saw at Builder's Square or maybe it was Mr. How (talk about a walk down memory lane), to cut plywood on the roof. The poor thing wouldn't cut 1/2" CDX so I returned it and didn't get another cordless skilsaw until about 1999! Always love the Bear's videos!

Thanks! Amazing video. As a DIY guy I debated over WORX or HART, ended up picking WORX and I love them. I have 5 of their tools as well as their work table and, again, for someone who only uses tools every other weekend, I feel like they have been well worth the investment.
I even had an issue with one of their batteries on a tool I bought from Amazon and after Amazon refused to just swap the bad battery (they wanted me to send everything in even when the tool itself was still perfectly fine), I called WORX and they sent me a new battery for free. So, in my experience, even the customer service is great.

I can buy an entire set of lightly used Ryobi tools in just about any pawn shop. cheap. Especially the older blue ones. I struggled for years raising a family, but managed to put together quite a set. I had to learn to fix stuff on my own. Appliances, vehicles, furnaces, you name it. I'd buy the old ryobi nicad batteries and revive them with a trick I learned, or rebuild them with cells from harbor freight batteries (less than$20) They lasted a long time. I buy new lithium batteries for them now. They're sufficiently tough for my needs, I still have a couple of the first ones from over 20 years ago. I still buy used tools mostly, even though I don't have to now.

Put the right “kv brushless motor” on a home gamer line of tools that there customers could buy “B&D” packaged batteries or Use Your own common 18650’s…..for the level of work expected out of these. That would be recycling.😮

Thanks Bear....after 30 yrs of working in corporate finance, I have developed a real disdain for VC firms like Bain (especially Bain....horrible history) and KKR. These are the guys that basically buy up everything, force the small companies out and drain all the profits. I'm glad to know that I will now avoid Gear Wrench, SATA and Metabo. I'm not some social justice warrior, far from it. I just refuse to support a company the is designed for, and targeted towards screwing over the middle class.

I wanted to get a friend a Bday present and since he has a kid I thought that a cordless shop vac would be a good idea. This was a great video of tools....one comment though, be wary of Harbor Freight --- if your power tool breaks out of warranty, you stuck with a hunk of junk. Unlike brands like Makita, Dewalt (just to mention 2), Harbor Freight does NOT have a service center to repair your tool. I made that mistake once and will stick only with brands like Makita, Bosch, DeWalt, Porter-Cable, and Rockwell -- now if they would just make batteries that were universal.

I read earlier this month that they might be changing it again to JUST Metabo and merging the lines. It's just hard for me to get further into a brand when the name keeps changing every week. My Metabo HPT stuff has the same name as my Metabo stuff yet uses the same batteries as my Hitachi stuff. It's confusing trying to example to random people when they're using my tools.

So, I decided to trade them back in, and get they're Bauer line up! > Wow, maybe not as good as that Hercules brand, but > They do me good, and right, I've now about 8 different tools, and about 5 batteries, from the 1.5amp, to the 5.0 amp,,,,,,, they are good, and they've lasted being inside of my Garage in Yuma, Az, where it gets up to 120F each /every summer now for over 2 summers, and they still hold a charge! I love them!

Any resources to track battery interchangeability between all these brands?

    • @denoftools
      @denoftools  2 года назад +1

There is none. Except in cases like Mac, Cline and others that are specifically designed to take someone else’s battery because they don’t have their own

Completely unrelated to the tools themselves, how insane is it to be living in a world where we are taking tool advice from a virtual bear. This is not the appropriation of VTuber technology I expected

One brand mentioned in this video has slipped so far in quality compared to historically that it may die.. Cadillac. I don't know anyone that has one and is happy with it. One lady had gone through 4 motors in 150k miles!

Bear, longtime appreciator of your channel and content. Please let my nit-picking come across with a tone that is friendly and kind...
    Extensive purposes?
I used to think it was intensive. Though it might not be wrong to use either of those, traditional use is "intents and purposes"
"Could care less"... So many use that as a sarcastic sort of thing that I also used for decades, but "couldn't care less" actually makes sense.
Maybe you already know that stuff and prefer colloquial usage, and if so please allow me to back all the way up and off of those nuts. LOL great video have a lovely day sir!

No worries man I’m always up for learning more. It’s funny though because I have a really strong grasp of English. Stepfather was an English major so I was corrected all the time as a kid. On top of that I have literally read thousands of books, it’s a passion of mine but that said I often get caught up when doing these videos as I don’t work from a script, just bullet points and often my tongue gets away from me 😂

What about is there any one doing battery adapters, were you can use a Dewalt with a Milwaukee or visa a versa?
So you can exchange batteries and run different tools?

Yes, search on amazon. I have some and are mostly cheapo plastic, but if you find what you need, works without issues.

Plenty of aftermarket solutions available online for 20-50 bucks, but the biggest risk with using them is deep discharge (i.e. putting your batteries in a coma if you leave them attached or run them out). They don't allow the tool and battery to communicate (edit: typically)
