An alcohol pad needs to be used after draining the bag and also just about every video proper body mechanics are not shown because the bed is not put up on down just the head…
Thank you very much for your vedio that I passed my CNA first attempt. This skill was one of my CNA test that I did as well as you by watching your vedio many times 🙏❤❤
Hi all! Quick question, when doing this skill on the day of exam do you clean the tip of the urinary bag with an alcohol wipe from where you empty it from?
I just completed my CNA class in Michigan , I was told by my teacher that we should use a alcohol prep pad to wipe the drainage bag before and after it is empty . Your videos are very helpful I am confident in taking my state exam which will be very soon .
Alcohol pads are no longer used to clean the drainage port for the state exam. This is not a graded checkpoint any longer. Your instructor may not be aware of the newest standards. Have your instructor view the clinical skills checklist on Prometric's website for specific checkpoints and they will see that cleaning with alcohol is not listed as a checkpoint. For the exam, you cannot allow your drainage port to touch ANYTHING during draining. This is the critical checkpoint on the exam. Best of luck!
I was always taught based on research of infection control that, whenever emptying urine from urine collection bag, then closing valve, and THEN, follow with "wiping urine collection port with an ALCOHOL PREP PAD in a one way swipe motion" BEFORE inserting it back into it's protective sleeve... always a must!? (THIS IMPORTANT STEP, is crucial for U.T.I infection control preventive for the patient). 4yourCNA, in which way does current research show this not to be an appropriate practice?
One of the girls in my group had to do this, and she took the entire catheter, bag and tubing and all, out from under my leg since I had to be the dummy, into the bathroom and emptied it into the toilet (didn’t flush either). And the whole time I’m thinking “ouch my bladder 😣” 😂😂
I like your procedure. It’s neat and everything you did was necessary. The only necessary thing you missed doing was wiping the spout after draining the urine from the urine bag.

I failed my clinical because I didn’t put the barrier down before I started my skill. But I passed all the rest of them, but because I failed that one she failed me for the whole thing, yes I’m pissed!

No, that is no longer a required step for testing. Please refer to Prometric's Clinical Skills Checklist for specific testing checkpoints. Best of luck!
I appreciate the videos but I thought after draining the bag you use a alcohol wipe on the spout. Then put it back in place???? And I wrong my test is today 😫 but I prayed on it and studied.
@@stephanieaquino8186 its recommended so the evaluator doesn't have to stand over you, and if you remember to say these things, even if you forget to do it and still say you would do that specific thing, you'll more than likely pass.
Hi there I’m not sure if you will answer in time my test is on Monday 10-19-20 however I was wondering do you have to use an alcohol pad to clean the tube before placing it back to the pocket of the bag
I did this skill today and passed. Thank you Miss Pat! This video has a great contribution why I passed this skill. I followed everything even the dialogue hahahaha!
Awesome videos..did she kneel down? For infection control, kneeling not permitted in Connecticut even if on chux, only sole can touch the floor. Also, alcohol wipes should have been used. Otherwise, this is one of the best videos. Thanks for your help!!!
Thank you for your comment! We are very happy that you are finding our videos helpful! Regarding the alcohol wipe, in the Clinical Skills Checklist for Connecticut, regarding Measure and Record Urinary Drainage bag, step 5 states: "Empty contents of urinary drainage bag without contaminating drainage tube (e.g., touching container) and close and protect drain (e.g., clamp and tuck drain into pocket) after emptying drainage bag?" Prometric does require cleaning of the port with alcohol any longer. That method was removed from testing parameters a few years ago, so it is not demonstrated in our videos, since it is not a required checkpoint. Thank you and best of luck!
Did you have any concerns about transferring contaminated underside of chuck into surface of toilet patient may use? Hopefully has good hand washing skills.
The existing bag has a firmly cemented (?) connection to the tube. it takes more than just a twist to disconnect. after several tries with pliars have not been able to disconnect old bag. All "tips" show this is done and skip over it, when installing new bag. do I cut the tube? what then?

@@hpfax4 they cannot know how much electrolytes a person has lost by documenting the output of urine nor your hydration quality. There are blood and cellular analysis that must be done to qualify this . When I was first admitted to the hospital they cathed me and I eliminated 4 litres in less than one hour. My temperature was 34C . After 4 days of using a catheter and drinking water , my temperature was 36.6C . I felt better and was released from the hospital. I went home without a catheter but I had to use a catheter again after two days. Since that time I have had Prostate Artery Embolization intervention but this has not worked too well. I am still using an indwelling catheter to urinate. It’s been 10 months using a catheter . I change the catheter and drainage bag every one or two weeks myself. I have bought an ample supply to meet my needs. The urologist wants to cut but my problem is not the prostate per se . It’s the detrusor muscle that has weakened. So cutting the prostate would not eliminate my problem. I now seem to be able to eliminate but not completely and not with ease. It takes some effort to start. For right now I am still trying to figure things out .
Anything that separates the unclean table from your clean supplies can be used as a barrier: a paper towel, a bath towel, a washcloth, a tissue, a disposable underpad, a washable underpad, anything solid! Hope this helps!
Can you please tell me if the drainage port should be cleaned with an alcohol wipe as in the old videos, not done any longer, or is optional? Thank you!!!

Does this skill include wiping the urinary drainage tube tip with an alcohol wipe in a specific way before inserting it back into the urinary bag?
Thank you for this. Have to drain Grandma's bag.
I was taught to clean with alcohol wipe…
Same
she said not to because alcohol wipes can cause micro-cracks in the tubing and actually lead to more bacteria being able to enter
Thank you so much for making videos I started studying on Wednesday for my test that was today I had two break downs last night and this morning and I was so nervous I passed all thanks to you I felt like my teacher didn’t show us anything

we were taught to wash 3x on this skill. one before emptying the urinary bag, 2nd right after measuring the graduate container and emptied it in the toilet and 3rd right after i open the curtain.
That is fine, you can wash your hands multiple times during this skill but it is not required. Best of luck!
It is a good practice to wash your hands immediately after removing your gloves and then again when you leave the room.
I failed my clinical because I didn’t put the barrier down before I started my skill. But I passed all the rest of them, but because I failed that one she failed me for the whole thing, yes I’m pissed!

Are you supposed to wash hands before and after every skill or just announce that you will be washing your hands?
After doing the hand washing skill , you can just announce that you washed your hands.
Hii please, for the time, we document wish time, i mean the time you see when you gonna document, or the time you see when you start the skill?
Aren't u suppose to clean the port with alcohol wipes????
No, that is no longer a required step for testing. Please refer to Prometric's Clinical Skills Checklist for specific testing checkpoints. Best of luck!
Kaci Harvey yes not on the test 😂
Kaci Harvey sorry my its required now in New york u should use 2 sorry again
That's what I thought too?
Yes she forget clean it
You do clean both the port and the sleeve with an alcohol wipe. And you never touch the faucet with contaminated gloves.
That isn’t a requirement for the prometric state exam
The faucet alreasy dirty
I thaught the same thing an alcohol wipe for the port before reinserting.....and inaide port for excess...
Gratitude!!! You make it so easy.
Lol
U passed
Did you take the test already
You are so welcome
Hi, I was told in school you have to use 2 set of gloves for this skill, is it okay to just use 1 set on the test for Florida?
Aud w I’m in fl too and we have to even wash our hands 3 times for this skill
I appreciate the videos but I thought after draining the bag you use a alcohol wipe on the spout. Then put it back in place???? And I wrong my test is today 😫 but I prayed on it and studied.
Yes! You use an alcohol wipe to wipe off the spout before putting it back in! Good luck on your test! Mine is today as well!
I passed! First time around. Hope you did too 💯
Hello just wondering , do you have to talk a lot? and say every single thing that she’s saying ?
@@stephanieaquino8186 its recommended so the evaluator doesn't have to stand over you, and if you remember to say these things, even if you forget to do it and still say you would do that specific thing, you'll more than likely pass.
I take me test the 25th this month Florida I’m nervous
How did you do
You don’t use the wipes now to clean?
I'm taking a class right now and we were taught to use alcohol wipes on the tip before reinserting it. You wipe from top to bottom.
@@antigone80 My teacher showed also with alcohol pad. I think it just got updated.
This video is 7 years old, likely the alcohol pad was update recently.
@@TJ-xq6fj @antigone80 @lefront1989 @faylenejames2136 Which is first wiped the outside or inside of the drainage bag tip?
Hi there I’m not sure if you will answer in time my test is on Monday 10-19-20 however I was wondering do you have to use an alcohol pad to clean the tube before placing it back to the pocket of the bag
You pass?
I have my state skills test tomorrow!!!!!, I'm so scared and nervous, hopefully I pass!!!
Michelle Garcia did you pass?
We hope you were successful! Best of luck in your new career!
so the basin is rinsed with water only? That does not really clean the basin.
I did this skill today and passed. Thank you Miss Pat! This video has a great contribution why I passed this skill. I followed everything even the dialogue hahahaha!
Congratulations! We love success stories! We wish you great success in your new career!
Hi I am going to do my exam for ct. Can u please tell about your exam experience
When I graduate as a lpn, first thing I'm buying is our wedding ring !
Question, do you document the time you started draining the drainage bag, or when you are measuring it or the time you are done with everything?
You document after washing your hands and doing the closing
Thank you to all your helpful videos!!
I pass today
Did you have any concerns about transferring contaminated underside of chuck into surface of toilet patient may use? Hopefully has good hand washing skills.
Yvette Haynes i followed these steps exactly for my skills exam and i passed!
The existing bag has a firmly cemented (?) connection to the tube. it takes more than just a twist to disconnect. after several tries with pliars have not been able to disconnect old bag. All "tips" show this is done and skip over it, when installing new bag. do I cut the tube? what then?
Taking my skills Wednesday and I’m so nervous!
I’m taking mine tonight and I’m so nervous. I passed the class with an 87 with an 83 on final but gods my anxiety is horrible
Did you pass??
@@detestor420 hey did you pass yours?
@@mariellemarcellus yes I did !! On Thursday night. I’m just awaiting my mail and also waiting for my final grades to be posted online because not ALL grades are there yet but I ended up getting like an 84 in the class. And did 3 skills picked at random. I passed it. I aced it :) thanks for asking!! I appreciate it
Is it in CCs? Also does your time have to be imputed as military time ?
its been 2 weeks so im sure you already got your answer, but yes, it has to be in military time
and idk about the cc’s part because my school never told us about cc’s so we use mL
@@kaydenwright5599 1 ml = 1 cc
I noticed that when Ms. Patty opened the drawer to get out the container she didn't use a paper towel to open the drawer. But for other skills she does open the drawer with a paper towel... can anyone explain that to me, please?
Eva boggs because her hand is clean that only apples when u wash and putting back the container
Watching from Florida
Yikes! She forgot to clean the port with an alcohol swab :(
Not every state requires that
Are these videos same for the cna skills test because i been watching these videos for year my second time taking cna school i live florida so i don't know if they test this way skills in floirida?
Yes I live in Florida & this is the video all the cna told me they watched here
Literally same I’m in Fl I just paid for my test and signed up for a 2 day class and binge watching these
I see this was 2016 are your videos still current in florida?
Why is the amount of output urine documented?
To make sure people are adequately voiding, or to see if maybe they are voiding too much and are at risk of being low in h20 or electrolytes.
For right now I am still trying to figure things out .
can i use the washable underpad as my barrier? Miss Patty i've been watching your videos and found it helpful. Hope I can pass the test.
Anything that separates the unclean table from your clean supplies can be used as a barrier: a paper towel, a bath towel, a washcloth, a tissue, a disposable underpad, a washable underpad, anything solid! Hope this helps!
Thank you for the video. Very helpful God Blessed You.
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching! Be sure to subscribe for more helpful content!
Can you please tell me if the drainage port should be cleaned with an alcohol wipe as in the old videos, not done any longer, or is optional? Thank you!!!
You no longer have to clean the port with an alcohol wipe, which is why it is no longer featured in the videos. Thank you for your question and best of luck!
I am Thankful for this video
Congrats🙌😁💯
Plus u don’t wipe the graduate and bedpan here I’m Wisconsin
Are all of your updated videos apart of Florida's requirements to pass the test?
These updated videos were created according to current Prometric testing standards for Florida.
I just learned this today knowing that my mom just got home and was somewhat panicking on how to drain this
I didn't know how to empty my new bag thanks
I have my cna prometrics test on Thursday, can anyone offer me words of encouragement or words of advice...please and thank you!

I have notice after measuring the ouput urine the CNA should discard the urine in the toilet so that it doesnt have to smell it the bedroom patient.
