    I actually really hated Windows 11's start menu. Windows 11 altogether felt like Windows was having an identity crisis

      The fact that it resembles ChromeOS in both looks and even certain features makes it less original and even unhelpful for those who used Windows 8 or earlier.

      My school pc has a windows xp professional sticker and it got windows 10 and it also has a core 2 duo sticker on the pc and it’s running windows 10 I think the specs are Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 1 Gigabyte that’s right 1 Gigabyte of RAM only how the hell did they even get windows 10 on there even pressing the windows button takes 30 seconds to load

    I personally didn't had a chance to use Windows Vista. Directly moved from XP to 7. That's why I love the Windows 7 startup menu the most. It's my whole childhood.

      Same here, straight from XP to 7. No one around me had Vista and i guess it’s good because XP machines had like 1gb of ram and single core processor. Many did get new machine with 7 that had like 4gb of ram etc, if Vista machines was sold like that in the first place there would not been any problems. The biggest problem (im my opinion) was people installing (or buying) Vista with minimum requirements. You cannot do a shit with 512mb of ram and Vista.

    It has all the options to customize it.
    You can use fewer suggestions in the start menu and also can turn off the search results from the web.
    It has all the things to do, but it's just a search away for you. 😊

    Windows 10 Technical Preview.

      10 rtm had the same layout but with transclusency and looked better though. but the solid and flat colours of rt 8.1 update 3 or 1p tech preview is also good. i hate that in 1803 it was not very transclusent but mich more opaque. same thing with the action center. but its a different vibe and i kind like it. wish we could change between all this and get the rtm layout too and 10 layout in 11!

    My favorite is 7. It was more compact abd complete than Vista, no touchscreen tiles bullshit and the taskbar used 32x32 icons meaning they weren't blurred like 10 and 11

    I actually really liked the start menu on windows 8, especially when set up in full screen. The minimalist design really suited me and it reminded me of some Linux distro launchers like the gnome one. One of the very few things I liked in this version 😊

    I never used Windows 11, but just like in Windows 10, there’s probably a group policy or registry that you can change to disable web searches, recommendations, and other bloatware in the Start menu.

    The Windows search system can be tweaked to only browse local files, but to do that you either need to browse the Registry Editor and modify some values or you have to use third party software like WinAero Tweaker.
    Microsoft really hates convenience at times.

    Windows 7 of course is the best, i will make a customizable Windows version, to get Windows 7 back safely. And Windows 7 had custom start folders too.

    i had just disabled Web searches in start menu , by disabling some service, and now i have the best Windows Start menu ever. Its only disabling the Web search away from a clean Start interface

    I use a Microsoft surface and in all honestly I wish they bring back the windows 8 start menu or the windows 10 full screen start menu and make it optional, it’s really useful for those pc/tablet hybrid devices and many people as myself have actual use cases for both styles.

    I've been using Windows since '95. For me, the start menu was essentially non functional until Vista. In Vista they introduced search. I still only use the start menu to search for and run apps. Win key on the keyboard, type part of the app name, and Enter to run it or Ctrl+Shift+Enter to run as admin. No other feature of the start menu has been useful to me or has drawn me to use it.

    Windows 7's menu was the best.
    The search function didn't do web searches,just use your web browser if you're gonna whats the point if it brings up the browser anyway?,and the files came up nearly instantly and not 10 hours like 10 and 11 and it had shortcuts to some of the system folders

    I've used Win7 for most of my life, but Windows Vista has the best looking UI overall, including the start menu, Windows 10 also looks good if you remove ads and only add the apps you need in the tiles section, they also have something similar to folders in Win11 IIRC, but I'll probably consider installing Win10 ltsc in the future.

    Tbh the worst thing about it is that the start menu is in the middle and sp horizontal by default. I want to see my other stuff while I open the start menu but the Win11 start menu just blovks my view of the middle.
