The call came because your design was foriegn to them with the bare minimum requirements being something paltable They are not accustomed to seeing better ways. Their call was either to call you out or they set their ego aside to learn. To their credit they did call and did learn.
Its a good thing they called. Often, they won't call and just do it their way regardless, or walk off the job. Had it here where client wanted a thicker slab because we have earthquakes. Builder was so bewildered by that he walked off the job.
