Robert the Bruce's mother was the Gaelic Countess of Carrick, heiress of Niall Mac Dhonnchad. He would have grown up speaking Gaelic as his literal mother tongue and only learned Scots/English and French (the aristocratic language of the time) later on. He would probably have understood much of the lyrics of this song.

I saw the entire production of Bruce 700 at its continental European premiere in Hofheim, Germany, last April. Allan MacDonald was there, along with a stellar cast that included Scottish traditional singer Rod Paterson and Mike Katz, the piper from Battlefield Band.

That would have been quite a treat, to have seen it live! I've really enjoyed the CD , just the same.

I cannot make out the Gaelic in the song. Could you print out the Gaelic words as an addition to the English translation? I would like to see them side by side.

The entire concert (CD) is a great listen! The only track I have difficulty with is the Lament.
