I can confirm the "Pingo" story - not being a Frogman myself, but having been deployed with the Danish special forces I actually met the Frogman who had initiated the purchase by the Corps of these watches. The REAL story is that the watch was being trialled by the Frogmen Corps (Frømandskorpset) at the same time when Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark was an aspirant to be a Frogman (he later progressed to be a fully fledged member of the Corps) and since the "Frog-name" that was given to him when he passed the trials was "Pingo" and he was seen wearing the watch on a number of press release photos, the watch was in the Danish watch-afficionado community given the affectionate name, "Citizen Pingo" 🙂
Incidentally the reason Crown Prince Frederik was given the "frog-name", "Pingo" was probably not that he waddled as a penguin, but rather that he was associated with being dressed in formal dinner jackets at royal dinners etc. - a dress commonly being seen as a caricature of a penguin (at least that is what I was told).
The real Frogmen Corps issued Citizen watches (still being worn today by some of the members) have an engraving on the back with the issue numbers and if they were ever to be released into the market, they would be highly collectible - however I doubt that they will ever be.
I have the same watch myself, which I bought in the PX in MOB Price, Helmand, in 2010 when I was deployed there with the Danish Battle group. Later in 2012, I was deployed to Lashkar Gah with the Danish Task Force 7, who was primarily manned by the Frogmen Corps and the other Danish SOF Corps, Jægerkorpset (the Jaeger Corps) and it was there I met the afore mentioned SOF who initiated the purchase of the watches by the Frogmen Corps and was told the story over a cup of coffee 🙂

Not many people know about the hidden feature on the original. The hourly chime sound! It can be set for the watch. In timekeeping mode, push the (S) upper left button and (R) upper right button both at same time. The buzzer continues to sound. The hourly chime is all set. If you want to disable it, press both buttons again and the buzzer sounds for a short fixed previous time.

I just bought Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2000-08E. I knew it for 40 years. Always found it a boring watch and in 40 years never payed attention. last month I was looking for an alarm watch that wakes me up! My experience: most watches do not, sounds to soft. This Aqualand does it! it is a very well made watch, classic. I like it now, it waited 40 years for my attention. the watch must lay on a surface, than the alarm sounds most loud and gives a likely clear sound.

I wish a new Aqualand can keep the JP-2000 analog-digital, adding eco-drive, reduce the thickness and reduce the lug width slightly. Adding a back light is good. Then it is the perfect dive watch.

Just bought this as a back up to my early 90's version which was bought as a 21st birthday present from my parents.
it's in mint condition however needs attention as the analogue hands are stuck and just pulse which puts more strain on the digital section. I believe it's a common problem where gunk gets caught up around the pinion and needs cleaning out.
I found a place in Oldham Lancashire called Time Repairs ltd that quoted me £225 (2019) for a strip down and full sonar clean, I just need to get round to sending it to them.

Best thing Citizen did with this was to get rid of the old three battery setup - three chances to dissolve the circuitry into sticky green sludge. Trying to repair boards is hit and miss at best, so with this model powered by one CR2016, leakage shouldn't be a problem any more. Had one of the old ones back in the late 1980's, took everything thrown at it.

Hey brother, great vid on this, my all time fav! I got mine at the PX directly after they came on scene. It was the only piece of kit that stayed with me through several yrs of special forces duty in the mid east and else-ware. Now, after all these yrs the hands started slowing down and stopping. I sent it out to a shop in Ohio, they came back w/ a quote of 650! WTF? Huge sentimental value, but I can't find anyone reputable to tune it up for me. Any thoughts?

Hey AHLC how goes it? Yup these are solid little watches!! Citizen here in the uk ain't great on these either despite them releasin some new colour variant 🤯🤯 what did they say was wrong with it? If it's just circuit boards or the movement might be cheaper just to replace the innards 😎😎 let me know how you get on 👍👍
