Oh Miss Lori and Mr. Brown. First, I love this recipe. I’ve tasted similar before and loved it. But, I’m writing to you about your beautiful tree. It brought back so many memories of my sweet dad. Both he and mom are gone now. And I miss them more than words can say. Dad loved Christmas! My dad had a massive stroke on the operating table during open heart surgery. That was a Labor Day weekend. He was in a coma for two weeks and when he woke up his speech was gone. He was greatly diminished in many ways but I never gave up on him. Through intense therapy, he learned to walk again but his speech never came back. We finally brought him home on December 24th! The tree was up. He hobbled directly to the tree and just stood there for a long time with tears streaming down his face that would not stop. It took me to my knees. It surely did. My life has taken many turns since then. I don’t decorate a tree now. It’s just too emotionally charged. But, I do put many of the ornaments that were on the tree my dad cried in front of in my china cabinet. And, tears flow. Yes, they do. Thank you miss Lori and mr. Brown for just being you. I hope you have a wonderful family filled Christmas.
Reminds me of a Christmas song by Kathy Mattea... there's still my joy for Christmas. I think that's correct any way beautiful picture of that story... no matter what your dad still had joy for Christmas. 😊
Mrs. Brown I Love your Videos. You remind me of my Family. My Mother passed many years ago. She was from Tennessee and she would always Put up and Jar vegetables. I would Help. My Holidays are not the same after she Passed. It is always wonderful to Watch you and Mr. Brown. I loved he and you both snore. It made me really start laughing. So do I. LOL I shake the House. LOL
I pray for you both. That God protect and keep you both. Thanks for the recipe and yes good people draw to you as you see by the comments. We all do love you both
I love your channel. We’re in the same age group and I also take great pride in the fact that I make most things from scratch. I cook mainly in cast iron, some of which belonged to my grandmother. I treasure the dishes she cooked for me when I was a child, that I cooked for my children, and my daughter cooks for her children. I get such enjoyment from watching you and Mr. Brown. Thank you for sharing your way of life. I don’t know many other people who really treasure keeping the old ways alive.
My Great Aunt used to make a jello salad...I dont have exact recipe...But it was equal parts Cool Whip & Cottage Cheese -Dry Orange Jello -Drained Mandarins-Mini Marshmallow's...I Liked Pineapple In It Too...OMG SO GOOD !!! This Looks Great Too !! THX
For years I made a seven layer jello dish. Takes a lot of time but the kids love it. 4 flavors of jello divided by a layer of milk, sugar, sour cream and vanilla mixture (Knox gelatin). Very pretty and very tasty.
I remember those Dreamsicles, now they make Cream Cycles that have like a hard icy pop cycle coating over the ice cream and they do not taste anything like the original Dreamsicle. Of course none of the younger people today have ever had one so they do not know what they are missing. My family makes this salad but we only use 1 cup of hot water and then 2 cups of vanilla ice cream. When the ice cream melts we fold in 2 cups of Cool Whip and then the mandarin oranges and the crushed pineapple. Thank you for the memories.
One of my favorites. Thank you for sharing the recipe. My mom always made a Watergate salad with pistachio pudding, crushed pineapple, cool whip and mini marshmallows. To this day my adult kids insist it’s not a holiday dinner unless it’s on the table. Lol
thanks for the recipe. Just got my grocery delivery and believe it or not I have everything it takes to make the dreamcycle salad. I will surprise my daughter and make it today.
I saved this recipe over two years ago and finally tried it for the first time this weekend. I shouldn't have waited! It's so good! Thank you for another great video and great recipe.
Ms Lori, I just love you that you do all these older recipes. My Mom use to make this and I totally had forgot about it. I want to make this for my family, thank you so much for bringing this back to me. I lost her 27 years ago, it's a loss that I think you never get over, there's just no one like Mom. Christmas was her favorite time of year, I still put out some of her decorations. God bless you and Mr Brown
@@WhippoorwillHoller so true, and no one prays for her babies like she does. When I was sick or feeling down, just a call to have her pray for me, always made me feel better.
I just had to tell you that I don't think that you know how beautiful you are. Your eyes are so full of wisdom and peace and warmth and strength... Pure and wholesome (but not one to take advantage of! I"d hate to see your temper!). Thank you so much for your gift of food and character! Brilliant...
I watch your videos everyday. You are a beautiful person. I love to cook and I have made several of your recipes. You are so genuine, your personality reminds me so much of my grandmother sometimes it makes me cry when I watch you. I have such beautiful memories of her and my summers in Kentucky with her, and all the special times we had together and the things she taught me . You just give me so much comfort, you are truely a special lady .
I love your channel and all that you cook and share. My son watches with me and loves it too. We think you are the most wholesome people we have ever watched. We love you and love that the Lord has blessed you with this channel. Keep it up, I always look forward to all your new videos - I think I have watched most of what has been posted. We love that you are so real time and share it with all of us. Sorry for the loss of your friend Adele -made me tear up when I watched your tribute to her. We are watching from Gilbert, AZ and look forward to your new videos. Lotsa Love, Debbie Defreitas
Thank you so much for posting this recipe. Brings back great memories. A dear older lady was my neighbor years ago. We called her Miss Ruth, but she was a third grandmother to my kids. She made this for me when I was sick with pneumonia and nothing tasted good-but this. I never got her recipe. We moved away, she passed away. I hadn’t thought about this, until now. It’s going to definitely be on my table this Christmas, maybe more than once. I think she added finely chopped pecans too. Thank you again. Melody B in NC.
I have been making this jello salad since 1979, I was a newlywed. Over the years I have devised my own way of making it, otherwise I would be agonizing over getting all those little lumps of cream cheese out. What I really like is how few ingredients there are, it’s fresh, light and healthy. I honestly can’t even tell you where I found this, I’m thinking Redbook. Ingredients: you need one large box of orange jello, Two small cans of mandarin oranges, one 8 oz block of cream cheese., water, and 9 x 11 pyrex dish. now we can’t have Thanksgiving without it. It’s our little family tradition.
I have been watching your videos for the past week and I love them. Great country cooking just like how my mom used to cook. I miss it so much! God bless you all
Yes Ma'am Ms Lori you did great with the Dreamsicle Salad. I really like that you added Pineapple and Pecans to it to. My two Giirly Girls love this salad. I will make it here at home and put the Pineapple and Pecans in it. I am sure that we will love it. I am taking your Cranberry Salad to our Family Christmas Dinner. It can be made with Sugar Free Jello and Sugar Free Pudding and then either get the Sugar Free Cool Whip or the Light Cool Whip. I have made it with Peach Jello, Peaches and Marshmellows for Easter one year. I am so happy that you like it. Thank you. Much love to you and Mr. Brown. Huggggggggs.
Wow! The one recipe I use is a little different with the same result. I box of cook an serve tapioca pudding,1 box of cook an serve Vanilla,1 box of orange jello,3 cups of water. Cook until thick ,refrig overnight or a couple hours, add pineapple ,mandarin oranges drained, then fold cool whip!
After reviewing many recipes, yours was the one I watched completely and followed. I liked the idea of chilling the jello slightly and adding the vanilla pudding. I made it all with no sugar jello, pudding and whip topping. You gave all kinds of options. You did a great job explaining this. Oh.. I also will try adding some small curd cottage cheese for a difference. I also added 1/4 cup of orange juice concentrate plus 1/4 c cold water. It does kick the orange flavor up a notch, I think. This recipe is delish no matter what is added. Thank you for the recipe.
I make this but a touch different.. I whip up a package of cream cheese and add that to the bowl before the cool whip. Then spoon into a graham cracker crust and make it into a pie!
I'm making this right now, for our Christmas dinner tomorrow. I loved the cranberry salad but I made it last month so I'm giving this a try. It sounds good! Love your channel. I share it with my older friends, who also grew up old timey. Yall have a way of making us feel like you're neighbors down the road. Have a very blessed Merry Christmas, from your friends here in big ol Hawley Texas, home of Div2A State high-school Champions, this year, 1st time in 46 years! Our team was followed by 7-9 thousand fans the last two games. This town has about 500 people. But our kids gave it all to God and became famous this year. My sweet grandson and his team mates have played since they were 5 years old in pee wee football. This ol grandma was proud of #1. If you love football, look em up on you tube. I feed him some of your recipes at times and he loves it. God bless you and Mr.Brown. Stay warm!
Wanna Say Just made this today for a Family Party and it was a Big hit... Everyone who is use to these types of salads said Its one of the best if not best they have had... I plan on playing with it for the 4th next summer and when our berrys all come in.... The Base Recipe “Just works” I am really wanting to try this with Raspberry jello and fresh Raspberrys from our garden.
Lori, I just found you a couple weeks ago and I'm really enjoying your videos! I grew up with my mama canning everything she could get her hands on! Mama and Daddy always made a big beautiful garden so your videos are always interesting to me! I love you and Mr. Brown! God bless!
Hi Ms Lori. Another great recipe and so easy. Who doesn't love orange dreamsicles? Thanks for sharing and for the add in suggestions. I'm going to make this for the Holidays. 🤗
What really makes a difference is instead of adding the cup of cold water I've always used a cup of orange juice instead! It is so much better than water.
Oh, Miss Lori, what a hoot! When I moved back in with my parents (long story for another time) my room was just down the hall from them. A music teacher, I am accustomed to sounds around me. But I was NOT prepared for the sounds of snoring floating down the darkened hallway, battering my eardrums and practically shaking the windows in their window frames! A year later, my sister said something about the symphony at night, and I had to admit I didn't hear it anymore.
Holiday tradition Orange Salad in my Family is made with Cottage cheese, walnuts, dry orange jello, mandarins, pineapple (without just as good) and cool whip .. Can't wait to try this and another I saw made with Sour Cream!! I'm orange obsessed so I love new ways to change it up.
Love the snore story ! So true, how accustomed we have the honor of becoming to playing kids, farm noises, and even snoring ! Love you Miss Lori and all of you super duper cooking, complete with tips and the Mr Brown tastings ! A Blessed Christmas to you and your Loved Ones. From the NC Mountains 💕
Thank you Lori & thank you Jimmie. This makes my mouth water. I can’t wait to make it. Looks so light & refreshing. I think it is hilarious about Mr. Brown snoring. I wish you would have left it. I would have felt right at home. I always look forward to your videos. They make my heart sing.
I don't know how I came across this but after watching it for about 10 seconds I hit subscribe. I love her southern accent, she sounds like my mamaw.. love the recipe too!

You are the best and we all adore you and Danny. Recipes are always great! Merry Christmas may your family be blessed beyond measure in this season of the King.
Mmmmmmm! Oh yes! Sitting here smiling , thinking yes, I’ll make this for church dinner at church on Sunday and will add nuts and pineapple. Those fudgesicle we used to get were soooo much better than what is sold today. I love your decorations!
This takes me back to when I was a wee lassie! We never put nuts in ours, but we did put mini marshmallows in! Yum! I'm going to make this for Christmas! TFS!
Gosh, Lori. What wonderful memories this brought back. I have it on a card in my grandma's old recipe box. I've never added pineapple, but I'm going to try it. Thank you so much.

Hi Miss Lori, your tree looks beautiful. Thank you for all of the beautiful videos you produce.
I made this and my husband ate some after dinner last night and after breakfast this morning! It's so good! Thank you, Lori!
This reminds me of a mandarin orange and pineapple cake that my mother used to make, every year for my birthday.
Gosh, Lori. What wonderful memories this brought back. I have it on a card in my grandma's old recipe box. I've never added pineapple, but I'm going to try it. Thank you so much.
I live through you guys. Love it.
I like the cottage cheese folded in. Awesome
