Thanks so much Peter for your clear instructions and explanations. I learnt 6 chords as a child and have only picked up a guitar again ( now in my 50's!) We didn't have you tube bk then and mum couldn't afford the tuition so I never progressed. I've watched a few tutorials but some r quite overwhelming and some just like an audience to show how brilliant they can play..but u R a breath of fresh air. I look forward to following your tutorials .👍👏🎸

I never learn music theory from my guitar teacher last time. When I try to arrange a song, it is difficult for me because of I don't know how the capo works and how to find those root notes or bass notes across the fretboard and today I learnt it. You are the most kind and wonderful best tutor for all people who self-learning guitar. YOU DESERVED MORE LIKE, MAY GOD BLESS YOU and THANKS A LOT !!!! YOU ARE INCREDIBLE

Very nice lesson.. I've been playing for 40 years and never took the time to reason out a logical capo system. Makes absolute sense and makes for mindless capo transposing. Thanks!

I’ve been playing for 45 years and have always played around with a Capo but usually just for fun. Now that I’ve started playing in church again the need to use the capo is a very helpful tool. I’ve started really studying how to use it effected. I’ve watched a lot of videos on the subject. Yours is the first that I’ve completely understood. You didn’t talk about how to use it but you explained how to understand it. Thanks for opening up the door.

Thank you so much peter! This is the video that has very well prepared me to play the acoustic in the worship band. You are a GREAT teacher! Appreciate the time you took to make this video. You are using your gifts very well and helping so many benefit.
For a moment, I thought I was crazy, wondering if I was the only one who preferred the sound of open chords. My teacher taught me the way of barre chords, but they did not sit well for me with acoustic. They give you unmatched creative freedom compared to the barre chords.
My next goal will be to play lead/electric, looking forward to following your uploads during my journey.
    Best wishes and God bless!

So in a nutshell, if the key is on the E string, you play the E-shape chord. If it's on the A string, you play the A-shape chord. And if it's on the D string, you play the D-shape chord.

oh nice, so basically the key is based on the root notes of g string when you barre with capo?!

...I don't think I will ever get theory...When I'm learning songs, I will look at a variety of players and usually a couple will be capo- ing in a 'comfort range' and still making the song sound like the song, then I just copy them...An example is "In Color" by Jamey Johnson...instead of shifting between G, F & C, you can capo at fret 1, and play A, G, and D and sounds close enough....Theory seems arbitrary, illogical and forces memorization...
