I have the BN0151 and your review is spot on. Citizen absolutely represents high Japanese quality in build and construction. Seiko makes nice watches, but how they can't get alignment correct while EVERY SINGLE CITIZEN I HAVE has ZERO ISSUES with QC. Love my Citizen watches

Finally a nice review of a Citizen watch, i always find everywhere peoples talking about Seiko Seiko Seiko.... I got one of this, the blue version, and it's simply stunning, the materials, the design, the solar powered movement...i love it! Cheers from Italy!

I have the black dial and bracelet version. On the wrist, it looks more expensive than what it is and definitely punches way above its weight. An honest and quality timepiece. I take my hat off to Citizen.

I am delighted this watch got some love. It gets rather taken for granted, because it’s been around unchanged for a while. It is a classic. Simply the best movement, bulletproof, no service issues, accurate, simply pick up and go. Yes the stock strap is a bit crap, and no ceramic bezel, but streets, ahead of the SKX.
    Good call Sam.

I have an automatic SRPD, the younger brother of SKX and I bought this Citizen (black version) 2 weeks ago. Although I got some compliments for the Seiko, it loses time like crazy - 5 minutes in just a few days. I prefer the Citizen any day. Also a surprising nice weight, for a quartz movement.
    Great review!

I usually don’t buy watches based on RUclips reviews...but at $138 there isn’t much risk there, I bought a black one 2 days ago and I am extremely pleased! I have some expensive watches and wanted a watch that I could take to the beach and not worry about..I’m finding that I don’t want to take the damn thing off! Totally agree with your review.

      @CasualWatchReviews  5 лет назад +2

Hey Michael, as you can see this is also my beach watch. Its a bargain watch. I usually review mechanical watches but this one deserves some real love, the build quality is there. One important question I have to ask... what do you think of the scuba tank? I may be on my own but I don't love it. I would have preferred a watch roll maybe.

I agree with your review. I have this watch and have used it regularly at the beach and at the pool. Unbeatable value. Very sharp, lots of presence, wears really handy and very comfortable too. It compares very favourably with my Swiss made Raymond Weil diver which is priced up at three or four times as much. Many people compare this Citizen to Seiko's SKX - I prefer the Citizen, however. I'm thinking about buying another one though it would be the upgrade in the range: the Citizen "Fugu" 200m diver, which has an automatic movement and is obviously more expensive although hopefully sub-500 euro.

I had a Seiko SKX for 8 years but it always kept poor time so the ownership experience for me was poor. Currently have a Loyal Scuba Professional 500M quartz but I like the ProMaster Diver because being solar means no removal of back plate for battery changes. It really seems to be a bulletproof design with the added benefit of no expensive water pressure test every few years because there is no battery to change out.

@@CasualWatchReviews you‘re welcome. This watch deserves a good review. I find it better than Seiko SKX007 and there is nothing wrong with a good and reliable quartz watch. Ideally if the watch has a full 11 hours charge under the sun, it should last for 6 months. Charging this watch has become my daily routine. I am sure as long as you charge it once a while for a few hours, it‘ll be totally fine.

I have the BN0151 and also a Helm Vanuatu, and I think they are both the best value-for-money dive watches that you can get at any price. The Citizen is the better grab-and-go, GADA watch thanks to being quartz/eco-drive and a lot smaller and lighter, but the Vanuatu is an over-engineered beast of a spec-monster with the added fun factor of being an automatic. I am super-happy with both purchases.

I have the black version (BN150) with the bracelet and 4 mechanical Seikos which I really like; however, I always end up with the Citizen on my wrist because of it's accuracy and the only time I have to adjust it is when the month has less than 31 days. I have a Citizen with a perpetual calendar, but the BN150 is the favourite. Having said that, the blue looks pretty good. I like your choice of straps.

As a early Birthday present my wife gave me the Blue BN0151 and I have to say spot on with the review. I was on the fence between the eco drive or a $500 Fugu Automatic Citizen. For me the eco drive is a put on the watch and go. I hadn’t come across a bad review. Many people have brought up about Why is there not a Sapphire Crystal option. Citizen in their research found that the time is more legible with the mineral crystal when diving. They do have some of their watches with that Crystal used. Do I like my watch? Yes, for functionality my use will be multi for I am learning to scuba dive.

I just added two Citizens to my collection and will say are my favorite watches they are the Promaster Eco-Drive and the Promaster Marine. Neither of them came with the dive tables on the strap which I would have liked. Paid $248 for the Eco and $202 for the Marine on Amazon. "Inflation" Either way I'm happy with these watches.

I have the blue version. It's gets more wrist time than the other watches in my collection. I put it on a blue Borealis rubber diver's strap and it's supercomfortable to wear. I really like the silver borders around the number markers and the overall thin profile of this watch. I also like the shape of the bezel. It doesn't get caught on things like a conventional bezel would. My only complaint is I wish the date window was a touch larger.

A great video, really well presented in a clear and concise manner. I love Seiko and like many others, I have the classic SKX, but it seems a shame that they take their eye off the ball with attention to detail with chapter rings etc. Citizen always seem to punch above their weight and perhaps don’t get the recognition in watch enthusiast circles. I guess they get the last laugh in pure sales quantities, though. I have been looking at this model over the past few weeks though, as they get such great reviews. I suppose I’ll just have to pull the trigger on this one and add it to my collection. Thanks again for a great video.

I picked up the black version Black Friday 2019 at that sub-$100 price. Great!! I have it on a Watch Steward band (similar to Marine Nationale). It runs about 1.5 seconds fast- per MONTH!! Each time change, I set it a few seconds slow and it's a few seconds fast at the next change. Sapphire crystal would be nice, but no scratches yet, knock on wood. The bezel insert has some wear that just adds character to this utilitarian piece. If it gets really bad I'll replace with ceramic.

I have one of these and all in all it's ok. But. I changed the strap and was amazed to find that they had missed one of the spring bars out completely. They have a steel tube/collar through which the spring bars pass and then insert as normal. The first side I changed went as expected. But the second side I couldn't find any spring bar to depress. Eventually I gave it a sharp tug and the strap parted way. There inside was the collar but without any spring bar at all. Only friction was holding the strap in place. For a certified diver this was especially perplexing as one of the criteria for getting the certification is that the spring bars must hold from a 45kg pressure. Clearly this was never tested. I wonder how many are like this and going undetected right up to the point when it catches on something and the watch falls to the ground. So please everyone give them a check for your own peace of mind.

Jump in the water with it. It's ISO 6425 rated. If it leaks, send it back due to the 5-year warranty (6 years if you register it online). I go in the lakes and pools with all of my Citizens and Tag Heuer and even cheaper Casio Duro and some Invicta Pro Divers that I own. I have no hesitation getting a watch wet with at least 100M water resistance rating.

I have had good luck as far as durability goes with Seiko watches, but their automatics have some accuracy problems. I own two Citizen automatics and one is spot on accurate while the other is currently gaining 18 minutes a day. That’s not acceptable at all. I do think that Citizen makes a beautiful watch at a great price! I’m interested to get ahold of one of these echo drive models and see how they do. The older self winding watches I have are durable if not consistent. One day I will find out about the dolor watches.

The 50L is £299 on Ernest Jones and the other watch outlets online and the cheapest I can see it is £249 on a diving website which I think might be American so could be costly on shipping but then I saw the 80L which looks identical and this one is on Amazon and its for £207.
