  • I do love a solid wood worktop, however there are some pros and cons
    Pros:
Bring a warm homely feel - It’s natural and colour brings a warm homely vibe.
Gets better with age - It ages like a fine wine! As it ages the colour becomes deeper and it’s appearance enhances.
Timeless - Wood worktops do not date and they look good with any type of kitchen, wether it’s a super modern high gloss kitchen or more traditional shaker style kitchen, it works!
Naturally hygienic - Wood has natural antibacterial properties. If maintained correctly, its one of the most hygienic worksurfaces!
Can be repaired easily - It’s the only worktop that can be repaired. Usually a sand of any un-wanted mark and a re-oil does the trick.
Absorbs sound - Its less dense that other materials (eg Granite, Quatz etc) so when placing thing down it absorbs the sound and vibrations, so no loud bangs and crashes, when simply just putting a plate or glass on the worktop!
Sustainable - When sourcing you worktops check your supplier is sourcing their wood in a sustainable way, most companies do, but always check this before purchasing.
    Cons:
Takes some maintenance - You do need to oil wood worktop on a regular basis (usually every 3-4months), however in doing so you will protect it from water damage and staining.
Can damage easily - It is more susceptible it damage, however if you use worktop savers and chopping boards this can be avoided. Also, it is the only worktop that can be repaired.
Susceptible to water damage - Yes this can happen but only if it isn’t maintain, so make sure you keep up with regular oiling!
