I just need to shout to the world. I finally broke down and got some Posca pens. What a change this has made in my doodling. Everything is getting doodled or re-doodled. Anyways, it was this video that inspired me. Thank you so very much. You rocked my art world!
I love watching you create gelli prints. You make it look so easy, but I haven't had much luck. I have very few that I actually like. I think I need to practice more.
The next video for this week's #fromPrintstoProjectwithGelPress will be published this coming Saturday. Enjoy making some prints in preparation for what's next! :)
Dear Kate, Your colorful prints look like candies to sample! I love watching you as you add all kinds of goodies to your layers! These would be pretty patterns for scarves! Have a great day! Best wishes, Dianna P..S. I'm thinking fresh strawberries and real cream, chocolate truffles, and a picnic!
These are so beautiful. I think you have just convinced me to pull out the gel plate that I have owned for over a year and have not yet tried. Thank you for your inspiration.
You Kate Crane are one creative lady this is BRILLIANT ❣️ I was inspired to try this-my doodling needs a bit of practice 🤨 but it was fun. I rewatched and saw how I can improve. Thank you for sharing, this was awesome.
I’ve noticed the tile piece in the background several times now. Is there any way you could show it up close and give some details on it? I just love what I can see!
Very clever!!! will have to give it a try. i have been experimenting using acrylic matt medium as the final layer to pull up the print, that is if i don't want that extra color. so far it has worked well. Really like your style. tfs!
Yes, using a clear layer for the final 'pickup' agent is a great way to layer these prints onto an already printed piece, or a piece of collaged or patterned paper. Can't wait to hear what you made!
I love how beautiful these are but I feel like if I somehow managed to doodle such a beautiful design I'd want that to be my print but I guess that defeats the purpose of doing it on the gel plate. 😍
Hi, Kerry-Lynn. Make sure to post your artwork. We'd love to see it. On Facebook, out groups is: facebook.com/groups/gelpress/. And on Instagram, tag with @gelpress / #GelPress. We can't wait to see what you make!
Hello Kate. Your gel prints are a marvelous work of art! I just received my Gel Press plate a few weeks ago and am very excited about the possibilities. The few prints I've done thus far are ok as the process is new to me, not to mention that I can't draw no matter how hard I try. You're doodling has inspired me and given me new hope that I might just create something worth hanging after all! I'm going to purchase some Posca paint pens and start doodling. I have just 1 question if I may. Could you please let me know where I can purchase the stencils you were using? TFS and keep up the wonderfully awesome work!!! I look forward to more of your techniques!
Are you based in the UK? The stencils are by Carabelle Studio and available at various UK outlets. Try Art from the Heart. You can also buy them on-line from Carabelle (Based in France). In the US I think Joggles stock them.
Hello Kate. I'm in the US. Thank you for sharing this info. I'll check out the online merchants. Thanks so much, I greatly appreciate it. Have an awesome day!
This is nice!! thank you I need to know which brayer I can use with Gel Press? as I need to spread acriylc paint? Is speedball brank ok for Gel press? Soft or Hard? ad how to clean it
Kate, I bought the proper gel press--after I learned that Posca pens don't work well on Speedball press. I have watched all your videos and love every one! When I put paint on the new press, the paint gets tiny little bubbles in it. Is there a solution for this? Or is this the way it works?
PS. When you do your last layer that you’re going to pull the print off of, do you let that dry too or just brayer it on and leave it wet to stick? I’m just diving in to the gel plate, and I still experimenting. I don’t mind trial and error but if I do all these doodles then mess it up, I’ll cry lol.
Hmmm, not sure, I haven't tried as I don't have any. But Sally Lynn will know as she totally gets the science behind it all whereas I tend to bumble along and just see what works! I'll check ...
We have experimented with Pebeo oil-based markers in the past. Two issues - they take longer to dry and then acrylic doesn't pick them up very well - leaving quite a bit on the plate, which then has to be cleaned off with a bit of baby oil. Not a technique we recommend since acrylic paint markers work so very well!
Sometimes if a Gel Press plate is super-new the best thing to do is to season it with a coat of paint, let it dry and then pull up another print using a different color on top. This also works if it's been over conditioned, with baby oil or once someone used vegetable oil which is a bad choice. Otherwise I have only seen this problem with plates that we don't make.
If I could give 100 thumbs up for Kate Crane art I would! I am happy to have found you😃

Lovely! Do you have to wait for each layer to dry before adding the next one? Amazing doodling
Yes, that's best so they don't smudge. But just 'touch dry' as Kate always says. It dries rather quickly with the thin application of acrylic paints.
Amazing👏👏👏😍😍😍😍😘thank you
I will try this 😍
This is nice!! thank you
I need to know which brayer I can use with Gel Press? as I need to spread acriylc paint?
Is speedball brank ok for Gel press? Soft or Hard?
ad how to clean it
Lovely
Love these , omg! Beautiful art!💜💜✌✌✌ Sherry
Loving the round stencil. I'm sure I've seen Leonie Pujol using it on one of her projects. Can you tell me the name of it please?
Not sure which one you mean - one is called Point, and the other is called Fiesta - both by Carabelle Studio.
After you put on the final acrylic paint layer, do you let it dry before pulling the print?
Such cute prints. You are a great doodler! Are you using card stock paper?
For these prints I used cartridge paper - the sort you get in a sketchbook.
Très joli 😍😍😍
Love these. Do those tosca pens stay wet enough, since it takes time to doodle across the whole gelli plate?
The point is to allow them to dry. Gel Press is specifically engineered to release the media in a subsequent paint pull layer. No rush!
How do you cleane the press ? Water and some soft soap ?
omg so amazing
do you let all the layers dry before putting on the last layer and pull it while it is still wet?
One more question: I'm using craft paints--and I notice you are using Amsterdam paint. Could that be the problem? Thanks so much!
Is that a medium tip on the posca paint pens?
I used a mixture of tips as i have an eclectic selection! 5-M, 3-M and even a couple of 1-M.
Kate, I bought the proper gel press--after I learned that Posca pens don't work well on Speedball press. I have watched all your videos and love every one! When I put paint on the new press, the paint gets tiny little bubbles in it. Is there a solution for this? Or is this the way it works?
Best tip, wash it on the sink with a bit of dish soap just to remove any excess mineral oil and season it.
fantastic
How long do you let dry between layers? Thanks!
Where do you buy your stencils?
Many of the stencils Kate uses are from Carabelle Studio. They are based in France, but you can go to artstamp.fr for local suppliers
Wooow🤩🤩
😍😍😍
I love it! Can I use oil based paint markers on my gel press?
Hmmm, not sure, I haven't tried as I don't have any. But Sally Lynn will know as she totally gets the science behind it all whereas I tend to bumble along and just see what works! I'll check ...

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
The pens are just beading up on my gel press so not working any ideas why?
Are you using acrylic paint pens, Janene?
Yes I am. Different makes but all acrylic any ideas?

I tried this and the prints didn't pull. 😣😣😣 Followed your directions carefully. Wonder why it didn't work???🤔🤔🤔
Hi, @valloves2create Are you using a Gel Press plate?
I tried again and didn't wait as long after doodling and I'm beginning to get prints, hope it gets better!
Love it!
Do you dry each layer starting at the pens? Have you used other pens? I have one pen it's white. Thank you.
