That's almost entirely due to Big D and, as you said, lack of matchup knowledge Ice Climber players were able to exploit. They are basically a mid tier no one has the patience to master but Big D, which is a massive achievement for him.
In my opinion ice climbers is low tier. Like their desyncs and setups and combos are terrifying, but have you seen their matchup chart? Try putting ice climbers against so many characters they just can’t do anything. Big d is super talented tho.

They were prevalent in Brawl, but they were not super common, largely due to the physical dexterity required to play the character effectively. The character also only really came into play a bit later in Brawl's lifespan, in which most players already had a defined main.
Icies were second best because they could dunk on Meta Knight (and everyone else) with their reprise of wobbling. Once you take that win condition away they instantly drop down to tier list ambiguity.

The climbers are the most precise characters in all of ultimate. If the climbers where one of the best in the whole game you still see very few of the character as to how difficult it is to use the A.i. at it's full potential. Out side of Hbox there are only one or two other Puffs out there placing high in tournaments and she is considered top five in the whole melee tier list, and yet she is not your common McCloud or Marth or sheik / falcon.
Wasn't Big D using Nana as the primary Ice Climber and Popo as the secondary one? I know that a lot of people don't even know their roles can be reversed in one of their alts, but it was still confusing to see when the video talked about either of them when it was actually the opposite climber preforming the act.
@@eltujo If you look closely, Nana and Popo have differences in their hair. Nana has two bangs and then smooth hair the rest of the way around whereas Popo has that sort of jagged kind of hair all the way 'round. In the skin Big D is using, the leading Ice Climber has Nana's hair, while the partner Ice Climber has Popo's.

always has been called the primary climber popo, and the cpu nana, regarless the skin that was used.
