    I followed the instructions to the letter........DO NOT spray detailer on your butyl tape. The tape absolutely will not stick after you do that even after leaving it out in the direct sun to "dry" the detailer off! About 80% of my glass will not stick now. I'm going to have to start completely over.

    Question, im working on a first generation montecarlo 72, and im wanting to R&R my front and rear windshields.
    Is there a seal for that make as well? I see other videos and all use silicone, im wondering if I can use a seal as well?.. Thank you!

    So I spray the actual channel with the detailer, the metal. Then I put the tape on the metal over the detailer? Do I spray the window with detailer before I put it on the tape? Or is the metal before the tape the only thing I spray?

    • @MrScaredshiftless
      @MrScaredshiftless  4 года назад

      You can spray an entire area as required to get the glass to seal.

      I took his advice and now my sealer won't stick to my windshield. Adhered fine to the body of the car (dry side) but won't stick to the glass now. I'm very upset.

    • @bobbyturbopants
      @bobbyturbopants 2 года назад

      Did you put in in the sun yet? I might start over but mark exactly where I like it to be then use no detailer because it's not sticking either

    • @bartsarton2212
      @bartsarton2212 Год назад

      @@dougr.6734 You should be upset.
      Common sense says the detailer or any other solution will leave a film of residue between the seal and the windshield preventing adhesion.
      The only thing that might work is straight water which will evaporate over time and leave no residue.

    Mark...totally agree with your statement about how sloppy the caulking looks.
    Many installers will not use Butyl Tape. Old timers still use the tape.
    For my 69 Elco, I will use the 3/8" tape.
    Thanks for the education...great video....

    Mark I have a question...getting ready to install a 69 Elco windshield.
    Using the detailer spray, will that cause the bond between the glass and tape, not to adhere to the glass surface??
    I understand...you squeeze the detailer out, but will there still be a very thin film between the seal ??
    GREAT VEDIO....

    • @MrScaredshiftless

      Great question! The detailer will dry out very quickly when the glass gets hot in the sun.

    Hi Mark.
    I will need front and rear glass installed on my 81 Camaro. The shop wants to install a "dam" (I think for no squeeze out towards the inside of the car), and then use a urathane glue of some sort like newer cars.
    Should I only use butle tape and no glue?

    • @theshark2804
      @theshark2804 3 года назад

      I can’t find the answer to this. I have the glue. But the tape seem easier

    • @jakefriesenjake
      @jakefriesenjake 3 года назад +1

      @@theshark2804
      I did more research, and asked the tech.
      The "dam" creates a finished edge and a gap, to whatever the thickness you need is (depending on the car and the outside trim you use), then the glue is applied.
      The glass is heavy, so all the glue will squeeze out. The dam prevents the squeeze out. This is the best method and that's what I'll be going with

    • @theshark2804
      @theshark2804 3 года назад

      @@jakefriesenjake yeah. I have the glue and primer already. Im waiting on my new glass now for my 73 nova. Hopefully i can get some good help to get this this in asap.
