I always tell people that War Games shows one of the most accurate depictions of hacking ever filmed.
It shows an awkward young teenage boy sitting around in his bedroom in the dark in his underwear all day doing research and trying new things online so he can pwn something while entire other portions of his life pass him by.

I loved the accent and automated voice used for the computer. One of my favorite rerun movie to watch with my two sons. Then with my youngest. I felt the actor that played Professor Steven Falken convincingly conveyed the sense of futility. Perhaps every parent thinks about what the effects of realities of life would be like in the future? I can relate to his pain, loneliness, and lingering grief over the loss of his wife and son. I know he felt the world would have been a better place; had Joshua grown up in it. I am crying now as I leave this comment. Only my oldest son that was born the year this movie came out is alive out of my four children. He's shared that same sense of dread over the evils in his decision about wanting to have kids.

This song fits the end of the movie so well. The rolling drums in the opening make it feel like a triumphant tune is coming, but then the somber harmonica hits. It's like, "Yes! We did it! We trusted in the decency of humanity and we prevented our own annihilation!" "Right on! That was awesome! ...but do we still have a vast arsenal of nuclear weapons, any one of which could obliterate millions in an instant?" "Oh... yeah..."

Loved this tune as it was also my favourite film on vhs. The harmonica is going in and out of pitch, as it was on the vhs, but I thought at that time that it was a video cassette or recorder problem slowing the tape. Now after 30 years I hear it again, and suddenly I remembered myself in the living room with my pigiama watching professor Falken Joshua. Thanks for making me cry...

I was born in 1981. Greatest decade of my childhood in my life! Back then, things were simpler and dare I say more truthful in terms of using money and how to spend it. Even back then they could have switched over to solar and wind power, even though both were still being tested and approved. But no, oil continues to rule and as long as we keep using oil, the Earth will continue to suffer from man’s greed. They had the means to change over back then but refused too stop being a bunch of money grubbing fools. If they had switched over then, things today would be a heck of a lot different and better…man is still stuck in the dark ages when we should already be standing in the light…quite literally..

They were the one most of beautiful periods of my life because in general all the youthness was concentrated in the 80's heart so all that it was about the cinema's universe there were always many rumors and this movies is the one of those that has made talk all people because uses the computer was a real discovery. Fortunately this movie was beautiful for action and science fiction, but it taught how it could be very dangerous if we had go beyond those things which we can not have competition. At any way: good for subject and screenplay.

I'm not sure it would work as well now. Back in the 80s the threat of Nuclear War was real, there were Protect & Survive information films on TV and tension with Russia was ever present. There isn't that fear anymore and fears now are nonsense things like climate change. That would make one boring movie!

I think Leonardo DiCaprio wanted to make a remake at one point... but I think they should let this movie be, it's a product with the charm of the 80s that embodies perfectly the Cold War's tension... maybe a movie could be made inspired by things happening today but I don't think it would fit well with the War-games legacy or story

+insomniacfolder I would not wish for this recording to vanish. I suppose there is a "real"-ness not found in today's digital recordings. But my ears hear the distortion as clearly as my mind recreates the original as though it were being performed in front of me, and the distraction diminishes my pleasure. When I was younger, these distortions were frequent artifacts that we all endured rather than savored, because there were no other affordable choices. We would never have chosen to keep the distortion merely because it was entwined with the experience. I can't forget having *those* thoughts anymore than I would expect you not to love those imperfections as you do.
