Lara looked great, the environments were excellent (love those giant viking statues under the sea and the Mayan sun dial/clock!) and the lore/world-building was cool (Xibalba). I wish we could get back to this version of Lara, the posh, quick-witted, sexy globetrotter that doesn't take life too seriously and her games are about high-octane adventure instead of some psychological trauma nonsense and such.
I'm one of the fans who absolutely loves it. It captured the classic Tomb Raider essence the best of any of the newer entries, and I think that's why it's such a polar game for people. Some people like that, others don't.
To me, Tomb Raider: Underworld is the best game in the whole series. It really brings the classic game vibe to modern gaming. Lara's appearance, feel, and portrayal were perfect in this entry, in my opinion. The levels were stunning, and the story was a love letter to the fans. I feel that what put people off was the real ending being Xbox 360 exclusive. That was such a bad move by Crystal Dynamics or Eidos-I'm not sure who made that decision. I really wish they had continued in this direction with the Tomb Raider franchise.
It's pretty good even today. I think people may have been burnt out on Tomb Raider after the way Edios kept pumping them out and that trainwreck Tomb Raider V.

I'm also very curios to know why Tomb Raider Underworld didnt do better and if how Tomb Raider Underworld performed in sales made crystal to go into reboot direction again. I remember sales were not that bad, i think Underworld sold 2.5 millions or something
First time we got a mocap Lara with the sweet gymnastics moves as well. Always thought this game was massively overlooked. The Mayan level is mind-blowing. I can't say enough good things about this game. Classic Tomb Raider at its best.
I'm probably one of few gamers who loves the Legend Trilogy as much as the original trilogy. Each game was better than the last. The story of Underworld does feel a little underdeveloped in parts, and the PS2 port wasn't handled properly during development. Even so, Underworld was a satisfying conclusion, with amazing environments and puzzles and terrifying enemies
I’m currently playing through the Remastered Trilogy on series X and loving it. It’s prompted me to buy the 360 version of this for the bargain price of £5. Never played it before so looking forward to it. Cheers
Not being able to play the Croft Manor in a recreative silly way its were i drew the line with Underworld. And story felt weak to me. Gameplay, however, was a huge improvement from Legend.
Underworld was a dark game.(Obviously , not as much as angel of darkness)The ending and even the beggining was sad(Amelia has been zombified and Alister got killed by the doppelganger)But really, the Thailand level was a very well designed level. The intro in Lara's mansion was epic, as much as the soundtrack of the game is. Haven't played the "beneath the ashes" dlc, but i ve watched a walkthrough and i admit that it has to be even more entertaining compared to the main game. Played both the console (ps2) and pc version. The console version is a shame compared to the pc.
The remastered trilogy got me playing through the franchise again. I quite enjoy all of them in their own way, the only ones I think that were objectively bad were chronicles and Angel of darkness I know some fans have a lot of disdain for the survivor trilogy, but I enjoy those games for what they are as well they're just not my favorite interpretation of the character. But I do think rise of the Tomb Raider especially was just a great action adventure game in general. The series overall just kind of has a mix of being just okay to really good This one however despite being part of what I think are my favorite games in the bunch with the legend trilogy. I think this falls into the just okay category It's not bad, it's playable, and it holds a place in my heart for being the last appearance of the classic iteration of Lara Croft which is my favorite. And it's not just because she was sexy, it's because her character was just more fun. She was sassy and sarcastic, she was badass by choice rather than forced into it by trauma, and she was a billionaire genius who inadvertently would save the world even though she started out doing a lot of these things out of personal curiosity. She's kind of an anti-hero when you get down to it. This game however, I think you could really feel that they were continuing to have to be rushed to release one every single year and since this one was technically on a different engine to be exclusive to the new consoles at the time, I think they didn't quite have enough time to really figure it all out The game seemed short, there's a lot of extra empty space that serves no real purpose, and the controls and camera are pretty janky and frustrating at times. The game is playable but just barely. Replaying it recently on Series X with backwards compatibility, I've noticed the visuals to be technically better than anniversary, but at the same time to also look kind of blurry / fuzzy. And the audio quality is atrocious in comparison But all that being said, if someone is looking for more classic Tomb Raider gameplay and characterization, this one is worth checking out. It's just not the most technically polished or well-written in the franchise by any standards
I LOVED IT THE FIRST TIME I SAW THE GAME RUNNING IN THE STORE IN A XBOX 360 . in fact , i bought the xbox 360 because off tomb Raider underworld . I played it first in PS2 and was shit ! And when i bought the xbox IT was the first and only Game that i played for a long time . Until i finished it , in fact. My favorite Game of this generation .
The only trilogy TR I haven't finished. I do like it very much but never got around finishing it. What strikes me though is how they made Lara's animation worse than in Legend and Anniversary. Her animations look more comical and it looks like they skipped a lot of transitional animation which kind of locks Lara almost immediately in her final pose/animation without much increment. A lot of her jumping looks just weird.
I do like it, but the animation feels jerky and I’m still waiting for the DLC to be ported over to PC as the social media team said they were trying to do since Microsoft gave them the go… Oh and GOG stands for Good Old Games btw
@@MinusInfernoGaming yeah no worries lol, I doubted myself too in the moment. I really liked Underworld. It feels pretty okay paced for how short it is so it didn’t bother me that much. But the animations are so abrupt and everything feels on edge because of it. That’s maybe my only gripe, that it needed a bit more time in the oven.
@mihaianca8602 Yea I know what you mean. Sometimes Lara would handle terrible and I'd end up jumping off cliffs, or falling off ledges whilst climbing lol

First game I get for PS3. Favorite TR game by far. Still holds up today
mind you .. this was 2008's. IT'S Extremely GOOD

I liked this storyarc wayyy better than the last 3.
Also I miss exploring her mansion. 😒
Yea, hopefully the upcoming reboot game goes back to more the original way the games released 🤞
@@MinusInfernoGamingWhat’s the upcoming reboot?
Square Enix have announced a new Tomb Raider Trilogy, but that's all that's been announced so far 🤗
Rise was the best of the last 3. It's the only one with an explorable mansion too.
This November will be Underworld's 15th anniversary. Miss this version of Lara so much and the style of Tomb Raider game.

I like that trilogy a lot, and also can't wait to play the remaster of the 3 original ones in February!
It's so difficult to play this game with one hand
I never played this trilogy but was a fan at the first 3 games and came back innto them with the most recent 3. I may have to pick these up. Thnx

She had the best outfits on here
