JohnnyQ90 is this the same eachine that made my drone? 👀
I recently received mine. Are your mains a little loose? If I grab mine by the fly wheels, I can move the cranks shaft up and down a few thousandths or either side. The bottom end of the rod is a nice fit in comparison.
love it
I have one and the crankshaft is loose, also mine did not come with a muffler. I emailed banggood and they never replied. I also left a bad review which never showed up, then I left a negative comment that never showed up either. I do like the engine though. I don't see the need for tall water hopper though, I can run mine 30 minutes and the water barely gets warm. Also the original engines didn't have weird tall water hoppers.
What do you use to lubricate it? Any reasons to not use regular gasoline?
Infinitely better without background music.
KTUK, KTUK, KTUK, KTUK, KTUK
It could go to the beat of Meshuggah
All it needs is a truck-style vertical exhaust with a flap at the end... ;)
Attila Asztalos tractor flat👌🏼👌🏼😂
JakesGT33 come on, Bart! Riiiiiide me.
JJ 😂😂😂😂
Runs just like my car
same here till my turbo kicks in.
Same here, until VTEC kicks in.
Same here, until the acid kicks in.
Same here, until the check engine light kicked in...
Same here, until the owner kicks me
Thank you for putting a load on it at the end. I see too many hit-or-miss engines just idling, and that doesn't tell the whole story.
These little engines are great, but your own engineering really makes it. Fantastic!
I have similar looking10 hp diesel engine (water cooled) at my farm
Like 15 years old
I love its sound
😍
A lot of memories related to it
My grandfather 😍 bought it
Now he is no more
🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
You have inspired me to buy a hobby mill and lathe from sieg the sc4 lathe and the new 3.5 mill ,I have so many things I want to build so I thank you ,keep on posting videos please . I have no engeneering experience but I look forward to learning ,once again thanks.
Sounds like my old Datsun Stanza, but I think this develops more torque
my car that sounded like was a Vega I must admit longer and looks nicer. Probably has more torque to. No joke it starts easier.
Shoulda put a teabag in the water cooler extension
Make instant cupo noodles with hot warer😁😂🤣
Please make this into a little generator. It would run constantly if you could get the right load applied. You could just keep adding electrical load until this thing runs all the time. It might get way too hot but I’m sure you’d be able to redesign the cooling system once again. Love the videos. Excellent machining work sir!
Do they make miniature farm equipment for that thing to power or is it something you play with for 15 minutes every couple months?
@@A_Man_In_His_Van This about sums it up.
There mini stationary engines available that can power mini farm equipment, cant see why you couldn't use a belt off the fly wheel to power one of those
@@suzukietc1373 of course, I was just being funny, or trying anyway. The only thing this wouldn't be good for is an r/c car, unless you are making a scale 1902 case tractor lol.
ryan olson 😂😂😂
@@A_Man_In_His_Van A hybrid r/c car where the hit & miss powers a generator that keeps the batteries charged......
Keep Posting , we will like to see more engines like these ! Awesome !
My Late Father passed away this past Christmas at 88 years old has built 21 miniature hit & miss Stationary engines. They ALL run perfect.
It’s good to see yours performing well.
Fantastic Weldon. Detailed job with precision.
Those old hit and miss engines are awsome, great video.
How freaking cool. But you know we want to see what it does with a tighter spring! Lol
Curious, why not put fins on the water tank extension?
i thought the exact same thing
He is probably kicking himself about this. I could imagine making a flub like this; it is such a crummy feeling.
It's not really necessary since it's not the air that's moving the heat away but the evaporation of the water
verdatum um he did not make the engine
@@ThatBum42 A combination of ambient air temp and evaporation. To add Cooling Fins painted Matt Black would contribute to remove more heat, thus less evaporation.
Now that’s stinkin cool !!! I don’t know what’s more impressive, the engine or all the machining that went into it.
Have no idea what this little machine is supposed to do....but was interesting.
It's a combustion engine
It is a scaled down version of machines that were used in a wide variety of work applications.
What a beautiful little runner!
Jeez, a giveaway from JohnnyQ90 would be epic :D
The stuff that is done on this channel is amazing! Keep up the awesome content? Love it!
👍🍻from🇨🇦
hello really nice project I've always wanted such a motor since I've seen him the first time. Great work, very good quality.
Hell yeah! I just got plans for one similar to this. Have to build all parts myself, even spark plug!
I spent part of my growing up years in West Texas around the oil fields and saw many of this type of engine powering oil pumps called "pump jacks". A pump jack is a simple walking beam pump used to lift crude oil up from the depths to the pipeline. The engines made a very distinctive noise when running. You could hear the engine going "chug chug chug " and then going silent and starting up again. I suspect the engine only ran on the lifting part of the pumping cycle. These days I suspect that they have switched over to electric motors.
The sound of the engine is so calming!
Love the content thanks for the upload
I'd love to put a generator on it, at least to power the spark plug
Why would you want a generator for a spark plug? A magneto powers spark plugs
@@anhbluekey a magneto *is* a generator
@@uint16_t A magneto is an electrical generator that uses permanent magnets to produce periodic pulses of alternating current. Hand-cranked magneto generators were used to provide ringing current in early telephone systems. ... A Generator is a device which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
@@anhbluekey that's what I said
@@uint16_t Just to be clear, a magneto creates a pulse (spark) to fire a spark plug with the correct timing. A generator puts out a constant power source in Alternating current, or direct current after the AC signal is modified through a bridge rectifier made of diodes....Big difference
I really hope we get to hear your voice in the give away, it would be good to hear from the person who puts all of these really satisfying videos together.
Would it be possible to see a wobbler steam system running sometime, if you'd be so kind?
I can half hear Fed Dibnas voice talking about old Victorian engineering in my head when I watch your videos.
I wish I took more interest in steam at a younger age.
I could watch these all day.
Can't wait to see what you give away or wait to see what project you come up with next!
Your videos are just so satisfying
I would actually like to see what this would do with a heavier weight flywheel. I don't know if these are aluminum or steel... thought about popping one off and casting it in lead just for added mass.
You should run a flat-belt off that thing to a miniature sawmill or something
Ever since ChuckE's video about the 100 year old hit and miss engine, I've become fascinated by how they work.
Xenro66 they’re really simple, and depending on where you live they can be pretty affordable too
@@lsjones42 Exactly, that's why I like them so much. Such a simple and elegant design. And yeah, I can just get them off any Chinese retailer site
You can get it run slower by making the compression lower. You will have to make a ring which between the cylinder and cylinderhead. Works pretty good. Anyway, nice video's! Really enjoy it.
Nice extra water cooling but what about lubrication cups for bearings?
They'd leak something terrible... I put 5w40 oil on mine to lubricate it, and it shot shit everywhere! There's so much bearing clearance it could probably run grease.
Oh boy, another week and a half to see if there are any supercharger updates
Beautiful work!
Any other RUclipsr: I sleep
JohnnyQ90: R E A L S H I T?
Not on this video though
Do a 2step
Im kidding, amazing work
You find the coolest little machines
Well done...I'd love to have one.
Man I wish I had the skills knowledge and the machinery to do all that u do on this channel all projects you have done are awesome
You can manufacture very accurate components with just hand tools like a file for example you can technically even build machine tools like a lathe if you can cast aluminum and use a hand drill
very cool, missed a chance to leave cooling fins on the water extensions though :)
Now that you have two of these you should build one from scratch. Think it would be pretty neat to see start to finish.
I just love it simply outstanding just look at the design and structure mind blowing
just a idea but to dampen the ''kick'' from the engine you could put the engine on rails so it would kick forward and a spring could pull the engine back (like a artillery peace) i don't know how effective it would be but it just might work
Or use fome pads.
@@dragonslayerornstein387 way to simple we need a shock dampener ripped straight from ww2
@@tmsgaming5998 Modern solution for studying Nanotechnology: Use a rock!
@@dragonslayerornstein387 NOO! lol
@@tmsgaming5998 How do you dampen vibrations? With weights. Literally, look it up
What is the lathe tool attachment your using for drilling the holes that is installed on your tool holder? That’s pretty sick!
Sounds like my old Ford Escort!!!
I’m gonna get it for Christmas I can’t wait!!!!!
I love these little engines. I want to turn one into a mini generator, maybe just have a usb charger attached just to charge a phone off of. It’d be interesting to see how long the run time would be to charge a phone
Love how most of the merch is rotary😍
Cool little engine.
I saw your video with the 10w bulb, I wonder how much power [W] the engine produces at 1/4 and 1/2 duty cycle.... through a very efficient motor and a calibrated resistor reading the current in series if the hits to misses could be captures to accurately determine duty cycle
WOW ! The blue first, and now, the grey one. Birth of a cool engine collection.
I can't wait to see how you improved this new toy. Maybe a heavier stand to help it staying in place when running ?
I have a question : where did you buy the boot under the chuck of you lathe ?
I'm trying to find one but no way. I also own a Optimum lathe.
Thank you
Pretty cool thank you for sharing the video
Cant wait to see more!
Good video.
If I may ask, how are you supposed to lubricate that engine? I don't see any obvious provisions for lubrication.
The magic of brass (I assume)
Dip it in oil
I love the mod you have made to the exhaust to stop the engine from getting dirty. Can you please tell me what thread the brass fitting is that screwed into the engine? Thankyou.

I wonder if it would run smoother if the governor hair pin trigger would have a slope to it? That way the throttle would probably roll off the gs better than only having an on and off state.
Good video. What purpose is a supercharger going to achieve.
What about making a little lubricant reservoir where the piston is running, and with a tiny oil pump, fed some oil to bushings?
I should hand you an old spark ignition box. Buzz coils
Great work !
It is governing out at max RPM. Hold the bar in instead of letting the little trigger looking thing block it and watch it rev up.
Hey Johnny, I bought the engine and Im designing the parts for making an rc truck with it, do you think it has enough torque to pull it self off? Lovely video as usual.
This us not the kind if engine you want for that. This only spins at one speed and is pretty weak.
Is this supposed to replace the fuel injection system?
Top o projeto
That thing would drive me nuts if I had to use it.
Make a beltdrive and use it to turn a generator and power something
never clicked so fast. ordered mine a few months ago, should it come soon?
It'll be here just in time for Christmas. LOL
Nice one! You should make an RC model with this engine! =)
That would be quite interesting to see but I think it’s really difficult to build an RC car or similar out of it because there is no way of controlling the speed of the motor on the go ( I think) because the speed is set by the springs and so you need the be very creative with some sort of electric fuel shut off valve so the RC don’t just keeps on driving until you catch it or the fuel runs out.
@@technikfreak9859 There is certain "gearboxes" that can use a one-speed engine but how small they can get is unknown to me. The weights on the engine regulate the speed by pushing that bar on a pivot at 1:50 when they overpower the springs with centrifugal force this takes the cam away from the timing rod on the side of the engine, an electric motor on the bar would be able to slow/stop the engine from running or manually speed it up. still making an RC car out of it while interesting would be a waste of time and effort IMO
I like that side exhaust. Can you please tell me the thread siz of that port.
Is there any type of throttle body or way you can adjust the idle ? I really want one
Very cool, this type of motor, can be changed and let running with a constant rotation ?? Like a 4 stroke engine ??
Leandro Wagner.
No
Make for it a cooling system, with radiator and recirculation. That would be awesome!!!
they did do that on some, they ran the water down a cone made of screen, it was an early early version of a hyperbolic cooling tower. Worked well actually.
Did they change the piston ring to iron, or is it still vitron?
Nice engine good video
that thing sounds like it would stall at any minute. what are those engines used for in real life?
Cool! Thank you!
Another good mod would be making a drip oiler for the engine. Just like older hit and miss engines
What are the AA Batteries used for? Does an ignition system really need that much voltage?
jod125 I wouldn’t think so, it’s probably because they aren’t rechargeable and so you can run the engine many times before needing new batteries. Originally they had magnetos for electricity. That usually have to be spun over by hand
He should name this series improving engines
Where can I buy the water cooling tower you made or can I buy from you>?
Remind me of prewar hit miss engines century old seen in exhibition
Back in the 20’s and 30’s every farmer or ranch had a motel Ike this to run “stuff” …the things could sit for years and with a little tinkering start right up to run your water pump generators even old washers
No doubt this is a fine little engine, runs nicely and beautifully . That said, a good engineer with access to cnc factory machinery should be able to produce fine products. Now if this were built by a person in there home shop with manual machines I would be impressed.
So what is keeping the water from going into the chamber and on the piston?
I wanna see someone do something with one of these..... genorator, etc
I can believe they could make these motors back then but couldn't work out how to throttle it any better
Does it have a throttle on the carburetor or just goes off of the carb adjustment
I wanna see how high it would rev if you removed or tied down the weights
I guess they never miss !
These engines are an interesting amusement from an almost forgotten past. Much like a model steam or Sterling engine, however when the initial excitement is over, they aren't much good for anything other than being a pretty paperweight or dust gatherer!
Have you machined flywheels on your model? My are badly casted and are off-center by 1mm or more!
What happens if you hold that rod down? The one that opens and closes?
And still, they never miss
