16:41 no it’s not that it’s just weak. It’s all about type. Onyx is a ground/rock type, electric can kinda affect rock types, but ground types are completely immune. But this is super old so it doesn’t really follow those rules at this time, it’ll be more accurate as u go on

Pikachu actually shouldn't have beaten Onix with Thundershock after the sprinklers turned on.
Onix is a Rock and Ground type Pokemon, and Ground is immune to Electric type attacks, regardless of how strong the attack is. And water doesn't change this fact, so Ash winning this way shouldn't be possible.
This is one of the few times Ash has done the literally impossible throughout his many journeys throughout the different regions.
Also, if you wouldn't mind answering, how far do you think you're going to watch? Are you doing just the original Kanto seasons, or will you go a couple seasons beyond Kanto? I know you most likely won't be doing all seasons as that's probably FAR too much for you to watch and make videos on for as long as that would take.
The anime was made for Gen 1 game. In Gen 1, Pokemons only have 1 type. Onix is Rock type. That's why he can be attacked by Lightning moves.
@@longdang1119after doing a few quick Google searches that's a mixed result. I know when playing Pokemon Yellow on my 3DS was incapable of harming Onix with Electric attacks, and I barely scraped by with other available Pokemon and Pikachu having Quick Attack. Without that I wouldn't have beaten Brock in Yellow. Hell, I played Red on Gameboy Color way back and I don't think Electric worked on it in Red even. And again, Google gave mixed results of people saying it did hurt it and people who said it didn't, also bringing up birds in OG Gen 1 already having the Normal/Flying dual type. I'd have to go find my 3DS and boot up Yellow to fact check by finding and fighting one.
@@longdang1119 This is just plain wrong. Apart from some adjustments in later Geenerations (adding the steel - type in Gen. 2 or adding the fairy- type in Gen. 6), already existing Pokémon never gained an additional already existing type or lost one. Some Gen. 1- Pokémon definetely had two types. In fact, there was a small bug in some Geen. 1 game causing the ingame - text to claim that an attack was not very effective or was super effective, when it actually dealt neutral damge. This happened when the type of the attack was super effective against one type of the target Pokémon while also being not very effective against the other one.
Onix has always been a Rock/Ground Pokémon, the first pure Rock - type was Sudowoodo, introduced in Gen 2.
You're right, unless the move Soak is used, which changes the typing of whatever Pokemon used to Water
I hope you watch all of the episodes in order. Its a great feel good series. It may be long, but they do call backs to previous episodes sometimes so it would be best not to skip something even though its so long. You're probably the first reactor I've watched that is thinking of watching all of them or even has started this series.
More Pokémon when?
The Pokémon don't recover by themselves. It may be different in newer games, but in the older games Pokémon wouldn't recover at all unless you used a healing item on them. Also, Metronome always results in a completely random move. There no telling what will happen when you use it.

The rate u have to visit a pokemon center is kinda propotional to how strong a pokemon are and how badly they get worn-out or beaten in battles. Any pokemon in the anime would recover overtime unless they suffered a REALLY bad defeat. Visiting a pokemon center just speeds up the process and is a way to make sure your pokemon is in perfect 100% shape before u leave a town or fight a gym. U will se pokemon faints which means a lose ofc but it dosent mean they cant recover inside the pokeball and u can speed it up with potions (medicine) and some pokemon can even learn healing moves so visiting a pokemon center isent strictly needed all the times but its like a standard medical checkup to make sure they are in tip-top fighting shape and is just good practice for any trainer to do when they visit a town.
16:40 Yeah that is a major flaw of the early pokemon generation and there are quite a few of them in the first few anime seasons that is just straight up wrong. Onix is a rock and ground type and ground types is 100% immune to any and all electric type attacks, it dosent mather how weak Onix is or how powerful the electric attack is its not gonna do shit to Onix.
Some types do more dmg to others based on there element and the easiest to understand is fire vs water. Water is ofc super effective vs fire so a water type attack vs a fire type pokemon will deal 2x dmg. It also works the other way around but instead of strong against its weak against so a fire type attack vs a water type pokemon is gonna deal 1/2 dmg (50%) becouse water resists fire dmg. It dosent always works opposite to eachother like that but hopefully u get the ide that some type attacks are weak 2x dmg, resisted 1/2 dmg or flat out immune 0% dmg. If a pokemon is 2 types like for example Onix rock/ground u could end up with an attack even being 4x effective if both types are weak to the attacking type move or the opposite only take 1/4 dmg (25%) if both types resist the attacking move. Pikachu being an electric type can still deal dmg to a Ground type like Onix it just cant do it with an electric type attack. Iron Tail for example being a Steel type move that Pikachu can learn later deals 2x dmg to Rock types so if a Pikachu learns Iron Tail even though its a pure electric type pokemon Pikachu could still do 2x super effective dmg to an Onix that way. The anime shows it like Onix being so weakened by the water that the thundershock was enough to defeat Onix which is just wrong. Onix is weak to water in fact Onix is 4x weak to water becouse both rock and ground is weak to water so it was just the water that knocked out Onix and even though water conducts electricity Onix is still immune to electric type attacks so that last thundershock dident actually do anything and it was the sprinkler system that knocked out Onix.
I'm sure this is a common opinion, but to me the first season is easily the best, and the next few seasons are still worth watching, but ill leave you to come to your own conclusions. I mainly just wanted to comment for the algorithm, and I would love to at least watch you finish Indigo League! This was a childhood staple of mine. Back in the 90's and early 2000's. 😅
It's so fun to watch your reaction to this series. You're able to pick up on what's going on rather easily and you are invested and have very high energy. On top of that, since you know so little about it, as you said, you are learning just as Ash is. It's really great to watch.
Metronome is an attack that randombly turns into any of the hundreds of attacks pokemon can do.. so it can be from the weakest attack to the most powerful...

Caterpie and Weedle line is the most realistic evolution in the entire pokemon. It learned most kinds how things evolve from a larva to a butterfly. It inspired me as a kid and I like biology coz its super interesting how animals evolves and how we evolved. Its why I love Pokémon coz its basically based on real life biology.

The reason the dude spoke weirdly and had a samurai helmet and a plastic sword was because samurail Helmets are called Kabuto... Kabuto means Beetle... therefore since he is a bug trainer he wears one... and since he wears a beetle/helmet he speaks like a samurai which in english was just translated to a weird old english instead of old samurai japanese style...

Other trainers from Pallet Town, he means THE players. If you play Pokemon Red or Blue game, you are from Pallet Town and choose 1 of the 3 starters: Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander. And Blue (or Green in Japanese version) would be your rival and he would choose the starter with advantage type (water against fire, fire against grass, grass against water). And Gary was built based on Blue, and Ash was built based on Red (the game's main character).
The Pokemon anime was just a PR product for the game at that time. So the bug catcher was refering to the game players.

@@demonik2108 I imagen it was just a hint toward the game. Early season 1 Ash has the pokemon knowledge of a 5 year old while Red actually knows what he is doing when it comes to battles even in the beginning of hes journey.

Get used to off-putting advances and inconsistent power dynamics throughout the series Neel. Pokemon anime is way different from it's game counterparts. Type advantages,orthodox tactics ain't gonna work well with the tumultuous and chaotic story progression.

Brock can a lot of moves. Because he is a Gym Leader her got lot of knowledge of pokemon which will comes very helpful for Ash. Most of stuff Ash learns is from Brock and some from Misty.
Pikachu can't even LEGITIMATLY hurt an Onix,
a rock type that is ALSO A GROUND TYPE.

Fun fact for you: clefairy was originally meant to be ashes partner pokemon, however, clefairy wasnt grabbing the attention they wanted, so they created pikachu to replace clefairy, and long story short pikachu became the iconic mascot of pokemon
