Dr. Yùndòng's development started in 2015 when a joke image created by BinBowie showing Sonic with a Caterkiller's face was sent in a private Skype group which was to become Owarisoft shortly after. Several people in the group absoultely loved this image, so much that the character was planned to be put in a Sonic ROM hack and was named "Lover The Catterhog".
Plans were made in a Google Docs document for the game, originally titled "Yùndòng Zìxíngchē" (运动自行车) as it was planned to be both the "Parodius of Sonic hacks" and a tribute to Chinese bootleg games, given the nonsense title. The hack started out simple at first before the team started throwing more and more ideas in as development followed.

Glad you liked this old project, I was responsible for Lover's sprite animations and the assets for Trout Yogurt.
It's a long story as to why this was canned that honestly deserves its own video, as for whether or not this gets picked up, I can say that from my point of view, there's zero chance of this hack ever being finished.

This hack was slightly influenced by Russians, perhaps... But "Perestroika" Zone translates "Restructuring" from Russian. Also Manic Metro 2 has "Денди" on the background, which is "Dendy" on Russian - bootleg console from Taiwan which was the main and the best replacement for Famicom/NES in Russia in 1990s and 2000s. *NFKRZ* has a video talking more about it...

It's like that one time when Sonic's brain was put into a dog named Spikes and vice-versa. Maybe Sonic's brain was put into a Caterkillar named Lover and vice-versa. That's probably why Sonic was acting so weird lately. Reminds me of the time I had my brain switched with an evil unicorn named Horns. He fries brains and zaps other ponies with his horn lasers. You might say I'm crazy, which I kinda am, but you might need a bigger boat. This evil unicorn is huge. He'll make you never see a normal unicorn the same way again. Luckily, I was able to defeat him, but he came back for three more sequels and that's when I officially defeated him. All the normal unicorns felt misunderstood, but I helped them out by getting rid of the misunderstanding. Even though I had to live in Horns' body for the remaining three sequels, but I swapped my brain back into my body while destroying the evil unicorn body in the process. After the experience I had, I actually wondered where Horns really came from. But that's another story. Well, the brain switch was made up, the rest is all true.

It's a shame this hack is horribly unfinished. The chomping animation and the Robotnik "non-fight" were hilarious. However, I'm not a fan of the foul language that the hack used in the shop that you showed on-screen for a split-second at 12:16.

In perestroika palace, the little pink guy is actually Pink Jelly, a tails knock-off character made by Hummer Team, featured alongside Hummer, which is a sonic knock-off character
