I like that the background music is not as loud as before. Now it is actual background music. In regards to the strategy, this is really nice. I always get annoyed when AI just runs away from my armies but here it's not like they can avoid the forts.

This is ironically more historically accurate than for both armies to be totally equal. Not quite to this degree in an outright sortie, but a smaller force could repel a bigger one regularly.
You can use Savoy missions twice for early level 8 forts. First let a vassal savoy use the mission, then you can form sardinia piedmont and use the mission again. Make sure the AI savoy has completed the 2 prerequisite missions first though, as this cannot be done whilst they are your vassal. This enables level 8 forts in 4 predominantly mountainous areas from tech 14 onwards. Or level 6 forts before tech 14. You need to time the following nearly SIMULTANEOUSLY: Diplomatic Annexation The construction of all forts What I like to do is try to let fort construction finish on the 15th and annexation at the end of the same month. If you mess up the timing, the vassal AI will delete the expensive upgraded forts. (Or only leave one or two) You can fine-tune the annexation date a bit by granting and/or seizing a province last minute. Repeating the same process yourself as Sardinia-Piedmont is easy and self-explanatory.
Also to save anybody else the trouble: the Angevin mission is poorly coded. Make sure that you have no more than 20 provinces with a barracks/soldiers household. The mission randomly chooses 20 provinces that fulfill the mission requirement, and from those 20 it selects 5 with a fort to add the modifier. This means that if you have 40 provinces with a barracks and only 5 of those have forts, it is quite likely it will randomly choose 20 provinces with a barracks and without a fort, thus rendering the mission useless.
Yes I knew that but the vassal stuff is really dangerous because the AI really really really wants to delete forts over the current limit... so I had a Milan doing the Mission and I subsidized them with all the Money they had and they still deleted 1/3 forts that they upgraded... and that get's worse if you go further above the current lvl. So it is a nice Idea but it doesn't work in practice trust me I've tested it several times
@@thestudentYT It is extremely finicky. But I confirm that it works. You need a bit of messing around, but the basic idea is that you don't want to AI to have any time to delete the forts. You achieve this by making them complete the mission and you completing their annexation on the same month tick
