ORIGINAL INFO: A shocking tale about the future! …Yeah, not really.
RUMINATIONS: The opening of this one, talking briefly about virtual reality, was one of the last few attempts to try to create a similar sequence to an MST3K opener, albeit a bit half-hearted in this one’s effort.
Future Shock is one of those books where I really would love to hear from the creators to try to find out what they were thinking. Comic adaptations of movies are ill-advised from the get-go, but I think this is the only time I’ve ever seen an hour and a half movie be put into so few pages. Most movie adaptations end up cutting a lot for 40 pages, so to see not even HALF make it into the book makes it nearly incomprehensible.
Over in the storyline, EVERYBODY was commenting on how ridiculous it was that Harvey was trying to use a little pistol on Holokara, especially when he wasn’t even aiming for the mobile emitter. I ended up addressing it later to try to cover for the mistake, though nobody bothered to point out the odd fact that Harvey wear white socks along with his nice tuxedo.
"And then his head exploded." Best laugh I've had in a long time.
Linkara: professional lamp reviewer.
JurkusplaysMC
With an easy bake head exploder.
"that toilet paper roll is trying to kill me" I lost it at that!
13:28:
Anti-Monitor: Sorry, got drunk managing the Anti-Matter Universe. She kinda slipped through.
I love how often we seem to be on the same page, as I was also thinking of Pokémon after the word 'encounter'.
I watched this review in 2019, and think about VR in these days......we are finally here...sorta.
It's official, holokara has gone insane.
I jsyt realized that holokara is probably the second most powerful character ever on the show,. Seriously someone who you can't touch but can touch you, holy hell.
so i wonder if linkara would still say jenny was stupid to go out to rescue her cat... cos i would give my life for my little familiar any day... any... day...
edit: at this point, linkara is a cat owner... just in case that makes no sense in the future...
Yeah, no, I get it now. Egg on my face.
"Like matter and anti-matter" So if they touch each other they will explode?
A lesbian explosion (kinky music)
Aaaaaaaaaaw yeeeeeeaaaah!!! (Sassy jazz trumpet)
6:50-7:14 my favorite "what" moment.
Xandrew Productions
I agree!
The comic is looping? LETS DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN!!
The opening of this comic was _amazing!_
7:03 (Tire from Rubber rolls his eyes)
10:36 That should be a real name for a news network!
LOL(OL)
Loved that Rake reference.
So after having to review this AND Marville #3 within such a short period of time is it any wonder Holokara went insane?
11:50...this comic is written by a man, right? *checks* Yup, it's a man. I have no other explanation for this than he needs therapy, badly. Now. Till the end of time.
+CrowMercury Or he needs research. He clearly doesn't know how paranoid women think.
OMG, I have been wondering forever what those clips have been from!
Were you channeling Brad Jones when you were reviewing the lamp? Cause that's what we need, the Lamp Snob.
First lamp review: that leg lamp from a Christmas story
Now we have Georg Rockall-Schmidt.
"I'm sure you've heard of the circle of life."
Well, this here is the circle jerk of life.
Because the scientists are all congratulating themselves.
Hah! This was glorious fun! Hysterical. =) =)
Was this comic edited together from several other comics to make one story? You know, like that MST3K movie Merlin's shop of mystical wonders? And is Ernest Borgnine in it too?
19:23 oh my god, Georgie is really Link from good mythical morning!
14:20 Modern Linkara would not say that, lol
Except in virtual reality you can do things you can't do in reality, or do criminal acts in virtual reality with no penalty. Even that.
Start getting good at doing crimes nerd
is that the orb of confusion in the thumbnail
Alex Mansfield DDDDDDDDDDUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.........
Alex Mansfield The orb of confusion is... confusing.
lee iif
hurry lee iff use the orb of confusion
looks at switch *flick*
DUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
It would be funny if you did a review of Fatman, it's a comic that came out in 1967 about a fat man who can transform into a laser shooting UFO...
puffnisse So...a human Transformer? Or close to that?
That sounds like the greatest concept of all time even betten than a full automatic hotdog machine gun (air guitar)
puffnisse Hey! Fancy seeing you here!
Alex Shannon Oh, hi, Alex.
islamroks11 This is what I mean: wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/comicsalliance.com/files/2010/12/fatman05.jpg.
This is my favorite episode :3
eddt078 Mine too. There's just so many WTF moments.
Same
Main is that opening scene interesting to rewatch years later what with VR advancing
Damn, I can't get that lamp, the offer's void in Arizona, where I live!
I love how just midway through you have a stroke and turn in the cinema snob
I thought the ball in your intro card was the orb of confusion from SpongeBob.
11:40-12:30 done I...WHAT?!?!?!?
0:08- Not anymore.
6:54- At least you didn't play the sound clip of Darth Vader screaming the word "No!", ...FOR ONCE.
14:10- THE NIGHTMARE BECOMES REALITY... (Cue "Nightmare City" theme here.)
Holokara 2012: Make AT$W Great Again.
Huh, surprisingly good cast of well known actors for a B-movie budget
Me (coincidentally, my name _also_ happens to be Troy): *searches Deviantart* Hmm... *finds suggestive art and blushes* uhhhhhh... *finds more suggestive and sexual art and blushes even harder* UHHHHHHHHHHH... *soon finds hundreds of suggestive and sexual art* NO! NO! NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! *head explodes*
I'm sorry, a semi-automatic shotgun? I mean, I'm sure it's probably a thing, but they're typically not meant for firing multiple times in quick succession. And why would she want a _shotgun_ for self-defense over a much more easily concealed, used, and more accurate handgun? Or, hell, if she wants it for longer-range shooting, why wouldn't she want a rifle? There's just _no reason_ to want a _shotgun_ for _self-defense._
"And why would she want a shotgun for self-defense?"
"It's got a good spread!"
The guy in the opening has my name... I don't know if that makes the opening even more hilarious.
You've got to upload more AT4W videos before Blip shuts down, dude! HURRY!
Nathan Plante They're on Screenwave. I might up the upload rate to three a week, but otherwise there will not be THAT much of a massive influx of videos.
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall For me, I can't watch much of any videos on ChannelAwesome or your site. Screenware for me just lags so much that I can barely use it. 3 videos a week would be great!
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall
I was wondering... what do you think of those new power rangers comics?
Jenny is like if shaggy Rodgers went insane
Wooo! Hell, Michigan reference!
In the ending is probably him murdering her and that's why there is blood in the final panel
I remember this, I totally forget the hologram plot line and I think them linkara just turn in batman.
Holokara had a bit of a pervy idea for a moment.
3:02 Did Linkara ever actually review that catwoman comic?
Yes
Lando Calrissian
Yup, just recently in fact.
Please review "Dead of night featuring the Man-Thing"
1:14 Sounds like Todd in the Shadows would like them.
Wow only 12 pages..it sure seemed longer
Mind...Blown...
4:40 Like fire, hellfire, this fire in my skin! This burning desire is turning me to sin!
I don't think they know what paranoia is
I miss the Plot Convenience News gag.
I actually get Schilling writing both: Soultaker is dreadful, but it has an interesting take on Angels of Death and souls. It would have been much better served as a short story.
11:38 probably just a reference to Florida being fucking insane XDDDDD that's the stereotype, at least--if something weird and unbelievable has happened, there's something like a 50-50 chance that it happened in Florida as opposed to literally anywhere else on Earth :P
10 years ago of future shock
As someone who lives in San Clemente California the town is pronounced like San klem-n-tea
18:42 REALITY ENSUES
*Plot Convenience News!!*
I genuinely expected Harvey to shoot at the little gadget thing on Holokara's sleeve. Wouldn't that work? Why didn't he do that? Harvey's smarter than this. Isn't he?
Smh I was really enjoying this arc until these last two episodes.
He's fighting a guy made of forcefields. It seems pretty likely that those could be used to protect said gadget.
Being from Arizona I don't the offer not being valid here.
8:36 Wait, that’s not Dr. Langdon, that’s Prof. Alexis Leskinen!
“What do you think of my lamp, Lintahlo? It can show me all the Shaman Girls I desire!”
Sooooo at least two of these stories have to do with people very clearly in the throes of anxiety disorder, written from a place of experience. I dearly hope the writer(s) for this got help and medication.
I thought the lamp reviewer thing was just a running joke in To Boldly Flee, yet he references it here, prior to that coming out. Where did that joke come from?
An April Fools' episode.
can make the issue about comic book publisher bubble?
9:38 but If you become a ghost you would so ya
Considering how messy an adaptation of Future Shock this was, I can only imagine what Soultaker's adaptation would look like.
No Man-Eating Monsters in Malibu? Poor fool is unfamiliar with the second season of Baywatch Nights
11:52 Not sure if Straw feminist or just misanthropic paranoia. I THINK it's supposed to be her being insane and paranoid but really it's so poorly written and drawn it's ambiguous
I think the movie's pretty decent-better than Soultaker. Schilling and the other writers come off as big Twilight Zone fans
what film is the clip at 20:40 from?
Creepypasta reference in Linkara...not sure how to feel.
What's a "magnetic ray"?
Andrew Gwilliam magnetism, but focused into a beam, like light becoming a laser
that was a repainted saftey gogles
As a Californian, I must object to how Linkara said "San Clemente". It's pronounced like "Clement-eee", not "Clemint".
Look out, Linkara has a disease!
TheNumnutRandomness It's called "Being from Minnesota!" DUN DUN DUN!
islamroks11 Lutherans!
6:22 JoJo reference
This comic makes NO sense and it makes Plan 9 From Outer Space look like Shakespeare. I want to see that movie. At least that's so bad it so good. This is just.......bad.
Wait this review came out originally the 13th of August, but To Boldly Flee came out the 20th. You were referencing it way before it was cool.
+Riley Ann Barnitz (LunaMalfoy7) That's because he knew about it ahead of time, being part of Channel Awesome.
An editor's note doesn't make the misguided insults to statistically 50% of your readers any better, comic!
+Gratuitous Lurking It was really an insult to men, women, and paranoiacs, and that editor's note just worsens it. Or it could be taken as dark humor.
+Kimi FW so... 110% then?
19:47
20:31
Oh my god, this comic sucks.
I know this is completely irrelevant now but you called this "a strange movie adaptation of a low-budget independent film" in the description instead of a "comic adaptation." Mistakes like that could kill a man.
Fixed! Thanks for letting me know!
11:50 She must be from Tumblr.
A number of years ago there was a feminist author who famously stated "the fact of the matter is that women need to view all men as potential rapists" and some crazy how the statement was embraced by a number of feminists groups.Late 20XX Early 201X feminist zealousy did a *lot* set the movement back.
I think that Marville is the worst comic of all time.
what's the Rake?
The Rake is a creepypasta monster known for sharp claws and appearing at the foot of people's beds.
