most of you don't get the meaning of this song. it's so much deeper than most people think. this song is about living in poverty, and not having much in life at all. not being to travel to exotic places because they weren't able to. about not being able to buy clothes that much and shoes once a year. it actually makes me tear up because someone with such a backstory has come so far with his music. his music has a meaning, something most artists can't withhold nowadays. this song is actually so inspiring, the message saying he didn't grow up with many things, but he pursued his dream, although many seemed to tease and make fun of him. this is both truly sad and amazing.
Me too! I think we could share good songs here. Hahahaha Guys, do you know "On the Brightside", from NeverShoutNever? This song also has a nice lyrics.
These arent just songs written and sang to make money, these send MESSAGES. BIG ONES. Your mama was right, look where you are now, Lukas. You got your deal in Hollywood, it was alright. REMEMBER THEIR IS ALWAYS HOPE.
This was some quality music video. I love Lukas's music because its so rare, so extremely rare to find music like this now. This is what music is, what it should be. And yes, this video did bring tear in my eye.
i grew up poor and got bullied a lot because being poor as well as having a reading disabilities and developmental delays. this song is awesome that i can show in my class. we just learned about empathy in october and in november we are talking about thankfulness. it will both tie together in this video. you should not bully and be thankful to have clothes etc. great song for adults and elementary students
I didn't really have my parents around I was adopted by my aunt and her husband and that man raised me by himself when I was a teenager so I don't know what it's like

I’ve listened to this song so many times lately and still get chills. Every time. I’m sorry you were bullied for something you couldn’t control. I’m so happy you powered through it and are still with us. I appreciate this song so much. Thank you for sharing it with us🥰
To me it was the opposite, well we weren't rich or millionaires but however we had more than enough for living in a poor country: new things, new clothes, expensive toys, a big house, a private school, vacation every year etc. But it was never ok, mom never said anything to me but only offenses and blows and in general very severe abuses. This song makes me cry because even now being an adult I would give everything I have and all I've ever had to feel that mother's/father's warmth that transmits this song. I pray to heaven that one day I can be a good mother and if my kids cry listening to this song they do it for different reasons 💖
I'm pretty old... and I'll tell you what... these guys remind me of how good music was when I grew up. And that's saying a lot, my friends. There's hope for the future of music in this world after all.
Thank you Lukas graham, i love this song it breaks my heart, it really does , your really inspiring people to create own music and relate to, i really with think back when im older about how my parents wasted theyre money, theyre whole life risked there life for us and then they go, i will treat them better and love them more until they are gone they spent all the money on us and not any for them, i am extremely grateful for my parents still being here for us, Thanks you!, Lukas graham!.
Amazing song, it's such a privilege to hear it, we should take that into account. We should all help each other, we're all humans just trying to live our best life, trying to make memories, archieve things, when there's people speeping in the streets only hoping they don't die out of hunger. I don't know if my spelling is alright, kisses from Argentina to all of you.
I love the style of your lyric videos. This has been my favorite song for almost 6 months, and it still never gets old! The inclusion of your album cover at 2:05 idk why was such a great touch I had to pause this and comment how much I loved it!

‘We only ever visit friends, nothing to tell when the summer ends’… makes me cry. Raising my son and even though in some ways he has more than I did growing up, in other ways it’s just the same. No holidays, trips abroad, endless days when he was little just in the park or the garden. Feel like I should have made life a lot better and feeling guilty. Telling myself it is good I raised a human to be compassionate, anti-racist, accepting of everyone and of sexualities, genders, etc, but in this materialistic world it doesn’t seem enough. Feeling so sad.
I am super happy to have found Lukas Graham because they are really sweet and so down to earth guys. Their music / lyrics basically TOP NOTCH. One can totally feel connected to their great vibe :)
I really like this guy's music, it sends a great message. I watched the lyric video just for the fun of it. Most singers today I can barely hear what they are saying, this guy's music I can understand easily. Keep up the good work Lucas!

My opinion, most songs nowadays are about love or like some random stuff, these kind of songs are rare nowadays it shows a message or stories.
Exactly I love music with meanings that’s why I listen to Melanie Martinez and more
Love songs are getting boring cause there’s so many of them. Most of them are irrelevant to people who aren’t apart of that relationship themselves.
Parental love and growing up with almost nothing.

When Mama said that it was okay
Mama said that it was quite alright
Our kind of people had a bed for the night
And it was okay
Mama told us we were good kids
And Daddy told us, "Never listen to the ones
Pointing nasty fingers and making fun"
'Cause we were good kids
Remember asking both my mom and dad
Why we never traveled to exotic lands
We only ever really visit friends
Nothing to tell when the summer ends
We never really went buying clothes
Folks were passing on the stuff in plenty loads
New shoes once a year and then
Out to play ball so we could ruin them
When Mama said that it was okay
Mama said that it was quite alright
Our kind of people had a bed for the night
And it was okay
Mama told us we were good kids
And Daddy told us, "Never listen to the ones
Pointing nasty fingers and making fun"
'Cause we were good kids
Don't get me wrong I didn't have it bad
I got enough loving from my mom and dad
But I don't think they really understood
When I said that I wanted the deal in Hollywood
I told them I'll be singing on TV
The other kids were calling me a wannabe
The older kids, they started bugging me
But now they're all standing right in front of me
When Mama said that it was okay
Mama said that it was quite alright
Our kind of people had a bed for the night
And it was okay
Mama told us we were good kids
And Daddy told us, "Never listen to the ones
Pointing nasty fingers and making fun"
'Cause we were good kids
I know which place I'm from
I know my home
When I'm in doubt and struggling
That's where I go
An old friend can give advice
When new friends only know a half story
That's why I always keep 'em tight
And why I'm okay
I said I'm okay
You know what my mama said?
You know what she told me?
My Mama said that it was okay
Mama said that it was quite alright
Our kind of people had a bed for the night
And it was okay
Mama told us we were good kids
And Daddy told us, "Never listen to the ones
Pointing nasty fingers and making fun"
'Cause we were good kids
