Ah , overnight trains. Forty years ago my best friend and I did the grand Europe trip on about $15 a day not including our Eurail pass . Overnight trains were our "hotel" multiple times . Insane yes but the joyous insanity of youth . Once in a lifetime memories .
About special occasions: My husband and I were in Thailand in 2019 when Pope Francis was visiting. We had to switch a couple of our plans around to see him but it was totally worth it. I will never forget that day.
As far as taking cash with you and traveling abroad I found that I always need to take some. Many times I’ve arrived at the airport and the ATMs don’t work. Also in France the bakeries don’t like you do use a credit card less you spend at least €10 so having some cash to pay for snacks at the bakery is good I put all the money in my money belt when I get the hotel I put it in the safe and only take out what I need for the day. Thank you for all the tips. I really enjoy the show.
Our new Favorite way to get our bearings in a new city? Book an e-bike tour. Easy to do on Trip Advisor. You cover a lot of ground in 2-3 hours and you meet a nice group of people. Last February, we did it in Lisbon, Sintra-to-Cascais, Porto and Seville! My wife was a bit nervous about e-bikes at first but took to right away 👍😎 Best to book well in advance via internet. We tried to book in person when we got to the Algarve, but the shop was all booked up.
My rule; think "non-travel" days. If a town isn't worth staying in for 3 nights, it's better to stay somewhere else and make that town a day trip while staying in more interesting town.
Well, as I’m traveling - ‘being green’ and ‘carbon emission’ is literally the last thing on my mind if you want ‘ be eco friendly’ you shouldn’t even leave your home in the first place
Loving these roundtable discussions with the staff. It's lovely to hear everyone's experiences and anecdotes :)

Save up your stinky socks and you can often have a compartment all to yourselves 🤣
