🎉 I'm so excited to be back on RUclips! If you are interested in my novel, it is available for FREE on Kindle Unlimited amzn.to/3ImxNiF Reading it would mean the world to me, and if you could leave a review, I'd be incredibly grateful.
You taught me programming and web development a long time ago, I am a web developer now. Now you are teaching me storytelling. I like where this is heading! Hope your doing better health wise. Thanks again and glad to see you back!
Welcome back! Glad you are feeling better. I have learned so many fundamentals of programming from you. Also I liked your low calorie recipe too! Happy to learn how to write a novel.
Welcome back Derek, you've been missed dearly! So glad you're back and doing better now, wishing you nothing but good health and wellbeing! I majored software engineering and IT with your incredible content many years ago, and I'm now well rooted in the industry. Not only that, but I also learned crochet, chess, some great vegan recipes, personality typing, statistics... Now even writing a novel! I'm forever grateful for everything you do and put out there.
Back in 2013 I used your Android programming videos to learn app creation. Now 11 years later I'm learning how to write novels. What a legend! Love the content and welcome back!
Me too! I have such fond memories of writing my first app in high school back then. I'm so glad to see you making videos across such diverse topics. Keep going!
Found your channel ~4 years ago when I was learning RoR and found your videos very straight to the point! Was pleasantly surprised when I saw you in "how to write a novel" search results :D Great video 🍻
Hi Derek, Good to have you back, well 12 years ago, your videos helped me at the university, I learned a lot from you, today I'm a senior dev and thank you because you were a fundamental part of my learning path. I hope you are feeling better now. I love you no homo.
it's so lovely to see you again after so long. thank god you are doing well. i am excited to watch the new video and thank you for teaching us so much.
I use to put java tutorials on during my college years. (8+ years ago) Those were some stressful times for me. I was always strap for cash, always spending time at the library cause I don’t have money for books , constantly moving and sleep deprived cause of my night shift job. I stumbled upon the story telling video and hear your voice which took me back a decade. It might not mean much but I appreciate the videos. it got me through some rough times
Derek Banas. Wow. Very long time no see. I remember when I was 12 years old 14 years ato watching your psychology video about getting people to like you. I vividly remember how you said "people like people like themselves" and how your voice fluctuates at the word "themselves" haha. Crazy, after all these years.
I stumbled upon your videos last month, saw how many you had, and saw how it had been a while since you put out a new one. I was worried something had happened and even Googled your name. I came back on a whim to see if you had anything new! Glad to see your return.
Nice to see you again :) I plan on continuing to look for really great video ideas. I'm not sure at the moment what will come next, but I'll figure it out soon.
Glad to see youre back to your chipper self. I have a feeling youve been out of the loop as far as the latest achievements in ChatGPT as well as other AI assistants and what they can do. They can write stories for you, they can program, they can be a private tutor and talk to you in real time. This really changes how people learn and how people create stuff. So I hope to see you do content on how to use ChatGPT or its competitors.
Used your C# video to refresh before an interview this week and it was super helpful! I’ve been trying to write a novel too so looking forward to your thoughts on this too. Glad you’re around.
hey! as a teen i binge watched your C tutorials!i wanted to be a programmer back then.i started off my 12th birthday with one of your C tutorials! things didnt work out as expected, and i decided to major in economics, which i really like now. i hope you are doing well! coming across this video just gave me tons of nostalgia!
I still program, but I use trading languages like Pine Script. I also still write a lot of Python code. Programming is like speaking for me. I definitely write more code in a day than I actually speak.
Hey Mr. Banas! I have been using your mathematics videos and they have helped me greatly and I want to thank you for that. I was wondering if you would ever do a video covering geometry, because across RUclips I cannot find a short comprehensive video course on geometry. It is just an idea but it would help greatly. Thank you, and have a Wonderfull day!
Wow!! I was wandering around on game making space last year and I was wondering how to write stories.... I yt "art of story telling" watched few videos.... I listened to few tutorial on unreal engine , Godot, pygames and rpgmaker.... and I found ur video I think through a cobol tutorial lol... maybe ull give me the final piece for my game making :)

The Anatomy of Story, Save the Cat, Dialogue by McKee, Steering the Craft, Word Painting, The Elements of Style, How to Write Dazzling Dialogue, On Writing by Stephen King, Story Genius, Writing Tools, A Poetry Handbook, Writing Down the Bones, On Writing Well, The Emotion Thesaurus, The Poet's Companion. I have always read books since I was little. Going to the library was my greatest joy.
I'm only interested in people reading it. I didn't write it for money. I only published it on Amazon because I wanted a way to see reviews. Thank you for buying it. I hope you enjoy it. It is largely autobiographical.
"I actually watched the whole video"... There seems to be a lot of similarity between writing a story and writing code. There appears to be a big planning stage to make sure everything works properly together.
That’s definitely true with well written novels. My next novel will be better mainly because I now know how important plotting is. The writing part is actually a small part. The editing is what takes up 80% of your time.
Any chance you could go and teach the BBC how to write a decent story. Seems Chris Chibnall and Russel T Davis have completely forgotten how to. Their current methodology is... Antagonize the viewer, force your opinions down everyone's throat. Keep pushing your opinions down everyone's throat till there is no resemblance of a plot. Sit back, look smug, then be abusive towards your audience because they didn't appreciate your ham fisted attempt to push your marginal point of view down their throat. All while ignoring any kind of real story, but we did lecture at you and you should be grateful for that.
It sounds like you are describing nearly every screen writer. What is your opinion on the BBC's version of Utopia? That is one of my favorite shows ever.
@@derekbanasDoctor Who has gotten so woefully bad, to the point of after 50+ years of watching I have recently stopped watching it. It has just become a podium for the BBC to preach their woke agenda. I hung in there for years, waiting for RTD to come back and fix a cannon Chibnall broke, but RTD he has gone so far off the rails himself that the show is just a lecture on why any kind of morality no longer matters and you should be OK with that. I called it quits after the first of their so called 60th anniversary "specials". I haven't seen Utopia, but I have heard good things about it.
I started watching Doctor Who during the reboot and both my wife and I liked it. I loved the first 3, but then I wasn't a huge fan of Jenna Coleman, and I started missing episodes. When Matt Smith left, we completely gave up. You touched on something that I agree with 100%. The Woke ideas that I also disagree with is the teaching that children are always right, and they should disagree their parents. There is a mean spiritedness in the content. It reminds me of the eighties propaganda that focused on 'It's you against the world, so distrust and even destroy anyone that gets in your way." I can't really put my finger on it, but as you said there is definitely a lack of morality in it. I grew up in the farming world, where everyone was there for each other. Neighbors all knew each other and traded and just donated to help keep each other alive. Where I live most people won't even talk with each other, aside from the older people. I'm mainly only friends with people who are older than myself. I could go off on this forever, but I'll leave it there.
