What Statistical Significance Means - Part 1 (8-11)

It is very important that we understand what is meant by the phrase “statistically significant difference.” We know that significance is indicated by a p value, but what does that tell us and not tell us? Statistical significance tells us that the differences that we found are unlikely to be due to chance or luck, but possibly not. And even if the differences are real, they may not mean anything in the real world. And that is why, whenever we run a statistical test, we should also compute a measure of effect size.

Great explanation on statistical significance. Great to know P value only validates or nullify Null hypothesis. Does not tell you effect size, only that There is a difference in test results, but how large that difference is we don't know. Whether P value is less than .05 or .01 , this does not stipulate that the effect was greater, but the chances for the null hypothesis occurring out of a 100 test results is more unlikely

Your response makes sense. However, he mentioned that the P value only rejects the Null Hypothesis. Instead, he should have stated that P value can also validate the Null Hypothesis during his bullet points presentation.

If u test d 2 dependent variables and get a statistically difference result...
What does it mean?? Pls explain it in laymans term...
Does is mean that d 2 variables that i tested have their differences??

Let me see if I understand...you have 1 dependent variable with two levels (groups). The t test is statistically significant. That tells you that your group mean differ by more than would be expected by random chance. The layman's takeaway is that, very likely, those group means are REALLY different, and that difference is unlikely to be due to chance.
