Am I the only one that was not listening to kanan at the end and was focused on the tortoise trying to climb up on the log lol keep up the good work love the vids
This video is an old one. Now is April 2020. If you see my comment i just want to say Happy Easter to you, Kate, Sophia and Lion. God bless you all and all the reptiles.
It's important to note that when buying two juvenile tortoises there is a chance you could end up with two males or a male and female. So provisions should be thought of for separate enclosures down the road. For all adult Mediterranean species a ratio of 1.3 (one male to three females) is advised. Enclosure Space is key and plenty of visual barriers as was mentioned. For leopard tortoises and the featured radiateds the ratio can be more liberal in favour of males.
My sulcata was a rescue. She fell into the deep end of an empty swimming pool when she was little. She is nine now and has for some reason started sleeping out in the open with her head and legs out. I don't know if it is normal or if it is something to do with the dent in her shell but it kinda freaks me out!
Evan White if you haven't had her long it's probably just her becoming comfortable with her surroundings, a lot of tortoises in captivity sleep and rest like this, they become to lack the predation cautions as they become accustomed to their surroundings. Also basking like this maximises the UV intake through the tortoises skin which is vital for development.
Hey Kenan, cool Video! I saw that you keep some big lizard with tortoises together. What do you think from keeping Tegus with European Tortoises (for example the Testudo hermani) in a outdoor cage together?
Sandra Schlectic, yes vets can do a multitude of tests including swabbing for herpes and mycoplasma, testing the blood for kidney/organ function and faecal screening to check for parasites such as worms and Protozoa. It's important to note that on rare occasions false negatives can be obtained for herpes and mycoplasma tests so intermediate tests during quarantine are advised. These two ailments can wipe out a group of tortoises very quickly and also other reptile species.
Hi Kenan, after watching these videos I have a question I hope you can answer. I have yearling leopard tortoise and the reptile expo where I got “her” will come back in October and they have yearling leopards for sale there. If I were to get my tortoise a companion do you think there would be any aggression between the two? Thanks in advance!
Darren Rangel Always try and get a similar size to what you already have. Leopard tortoises do not display as much aggression as most other species, so if raised together males can do fine together. But as kenan mentioned, space is key and as they mature you may observe so minimal ramming and dominance mounting which is normal. But always be sure to quarantine and get vet checks before introducing.
I have a single male cherry head I just purchased a 10 cherry head breeding group. Was unsure if they would accept him. They did and in a week he mated every female. Guess he is a lover not fighterlol
I found a turtle in my backyard and i live in nc and im pretty sure it is not a box turtle and there is not any body of water close to me so do you think i should just let it be or should i take it to a lake or pond and let it go
Darth Valius Typically two females is advised. With most species the ideal ratio of males to females is 1 Male to 3 females. Particularly Mediterranean species. leopard tortoises and a few others are not as aggressive so can be kept in more liberal ratios.
You say that you have the animals best interest in mind, however, you have also gotten rid of groups of tortoises simply because they were not producing eggs to “support kamp kenan”. I’m not sure that’s sending a good message, or keeping animals you have taken ins best interest in mind. When I commit to an animal and remove it from its habitat, that commitment isn’t conditional upon how much money the animal can make for me.
legend has it that tort is still trying to get over that log
I just noticed it LOL 😂

Thank you for featuring my question!!!
I like it when a channel is improving and it shows. Thanks for the knowledge Mr. Kenan!

Another plus side of keeping tortoises, they're quiet (barking dogs in the background:)
Is there a difference btween tortoises and semi aquatic turtles? Because i heard that they mostly live alone they do not like company
I love your channel
It needs to know it's safe at the kamp too. Two years will let him know that its stable and safe and not just being moved around.
Are there any tests that the vet can do to detect communicable diseases in tortoises to speed up the introduction process?
