I completely agree with the limiter on the master and I always explain this it is not mastered but I did bring the volume up for them to have a better idea of how loud it will sound and how the mix sounds when its at a decent loudness level
One thing I recently added to my checklist is to print a band track ALWAYS! It would have saved hours of remixing a song from a few years ago. (Also handy is having an ending if it's the sort of song someone might sing on TV or live...)
Currently Studio One can only export the loop range and between various markers. I would like to have the following additional export options ... - first sample to last sample (non-zero samples) - start and end offset values e.g. start - 50ms, end + 2sec - setting the start and end types independently, e.g. from start marker to 2sec after last sample
@@presonus my pleasure, and if these features becomes reality I will celebrate your existence every year. Whoever and wherever you are, you will be my hero.
This was extremely helpful. I was wondering why my mixdowns are so much quieter than my working song within StudioOne. Thanks Joe. One follow-up question, if you have a chance: do you ever use the "Adjust Loudness" section, of the Export Mixdown screen, where you can set the loudness for RUclips, or EUB (whatever that is), or numerous other choices? If I'm exporting my bass track as a WAV mixdown and sending it to someone who will pull it into her Audacity system to combine it with other tracks, and she says she can barely hear my WAV file, should I use one of those "Adjust Volume" choices? Thanks in advance.
64kbps export option might be for people who are absolutely just getting into the idea of using a DAW and/or have extremely outdated hardware/computers. Just a thought. But thank you for the helpful pointers. Particularly the temp limiter boosting for client satisfaction :)
it would be great to have the ability to bounce multiple sample rates and bit depths when we select a format, so I can select wave and bounce a 48khz 24 bit and a 44.1 khz 16 bit for example, or have a task que where I can then tell it what to export next, so once I'm done working I can set it to bounce and walk away 🙂
Forgive the noob question, but is the limiter doing a similar job to the Loudness option in the export mixdown? For context, I'm exporting different mixes for our drummer to use on his Roland SPD-SX PRO for backing and cue tracks.
Hi Presonus, if i compare the export mixdown to print to a new track by polarity switching it (null test), there is a difference between, does the export mixdown has some flaw ?
Limiter 2 is good, but it is not transparent! the threshold function is great, but it still doesn't compare to other great mastering limiters, please Presonus, make Presonus Limiter great, I love this limiter!
I find it interesting that sir gilder masters with the k14 peaking into the red which leads me to believe my mixes and/or mix buss levels are too "hot" because every time i put a limiter (full disclosure i am using th LoudMax free plugin) i seem to end up at about 12.8 Lufs (and the mix sounds quite loud) with the k14 meter sitting right at 0db with an occassional foray into the yellow..every mix has its dynamics! After the fact addendum I'm using the kotelnikov "mastering" compressor on my mix buss and presonus pro eq plus klanghelm's saturation (free version) plug-in which itself is hitting at a bit less than zero
Hey Joe, When I bounce my songs , i usually save the file to my desktop just so its somewhere i can get to fast. For some reason though, whenever i save my songs now, it creates a folder on my desktop with the file inside of the folder. It never did that before. is there something ive done to make it happen that way now? is there a way that i can get it back to just saving the song file (WAV or MP3) and only that appears with no folder?
Hi!, I need to know how do I render tracks with inserts and sends to a new track or it can be the same track. All I need is that after the render the effects, sends and inserts is rendered/printed/burned in the track.
Is there a way for Studio One to display (remember) the last Mixdown file name? If there is, can you tell me where it's at. If it does not, I wish it did. And yes, I'm on mix 47 about now...
How do you set the knob value at 6db or -1.00 ? When i try to set it ,it goes to 102 or 96 , can't get it to -1.00.Same with the 6db ,when i raise it it goes above 6 or below 6 never right on 6db. Ive set my mouse up correctly in my computer.is there some settings in studio one pro to fix this?
When will the issues with Au-plugins be fixed? The latest update crashes all the time and lags a lot. Been used to S1 for years but have been looking at other DAWs now.
Unfortunately S1 export mixdown in MP3 is not accurate in the time range export. There is difference in ms when you export. For those who need to export accurate time versions in mp3 you`re not gonna get it. I need to export sometimes with exact time and I need to export in wav and after that to encode to mp3 outside S1. Hope Presonus fix it one day.
New guy here. I have added the limiter to the main out and it works, but the mixdown does not reflect this. Even when its on the mixdown is the same volume like I didn't have a limiter.
"Export Mixdown" is one of the shittiest parts of S1. It permanently overrides user settings with default values or the settings of the last song you exported and you have no chance to override an existing mixdown. If you need to to this you have to open your explorer (in Windows, choose the folder, delete the existing file, choose the format you want to export, choose the folder you want to export the file, if different from the recent song change the setting for loudness adjust). All this is reported and complained about since years but Presonus has obviously decided to ignore this issue or their software engineers are too stupid to know some basics. It is stupid software design, code writing, testing and quality control. A newbie might make bs like that. But not people who are so much showing off how great the workflow of their product is. Similar bs when exporting stems, btw.
Oh btw PROCESS IN REAL TIME!!!If you choose "offline" s1 will arbitrarily shut down this that and the other plugin, etc and you will be deceived as to the sound. I did an offline export mixdown and i almost fell off my chair when i heard the results but real time fixed that
I there might be more to your example as Joe did a video on this exact topic, where he did a null test at the end and the difference was minuscule (which can be chalked up to reverb tails as well, quite frankly). You might want to test whether your plugins work properly when offline bouncing, because it's definitely not a Studio One issue.
There’s a feature called Plugin Nap that, if on, can sometimes not wake plugins at mixdown. It’s a good idea to keep this off if Studio One isn’t bogged down by plugins.

Mix 47 for real this time lol that was funny man
We've all been there... right?
I number my mixdown versions, but putting a date stamp in the file name is a great idea. Great video as always, Joe!
Both work! This is just the way I do it! :)
Great video. Would be nice to have some defined placeholders like , , .
Great speaker. Fast and clean explaination. Thank you.
Hope this helps!
Looks like the grinch took over the comment section. Thank you for teaching me us all these helpful videos! Much appreciation for you and Presonus!
Happy to help!
Just used this tip now & boy do I love it! Thank you Joe ❤
You're welcome!
Another great video! :) Thx for the tip on the number of bps. I had sent something to youtube and was surprised that it sounded somewhat shallow.
this video has a lot of great advice. thank you!

Joe can we master the final mix song directly from the song page?
64kbps MP3 could be used for long form narration like for audiobooks.

A 64k mp3 file might be useful for a spoken voice mixdown, like for an audio book or a podcast.
thx🙂 Limiter in post section, that's it 👍
You got it!
Can you maybe provide a video explaining why you add the limiter post fader and not inserts, in the main output...😊😊
