I kept thinking "just do it two-handed Lucky, you can let go of that latch now".... and after he finally gets the cap on the pen, he immediately lets go of the latch. :-)
I believe these latches have two steps versus one (as in the stock) so it’s as much for safety as it is for a replacement. Sometimes these old trucks go over a bump or around a corner and the door swings open unexpectedly. That won’t happen with the bear claw design.
excellent work with the sharpie, only a trained professional can put the cap back on with one hand. I've tried and my fingers got all messy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Good video and reminder. I’ve heard good things about these Altman latches before and your install confirmed it and reminded me to order my own. Stopped the video and ordered from Triquemfg a set of the universal latches to try on my ‘29 Roadster door. Thanks for showing this.
So at 16 I worked at Lancaster Body and Frame.. I quickly became the "door guy" the owner didn't want to charge to adjust a door and body men were paid on commission so they didn't want to do it... it was 1981, Cadillac and GM cars had huge doors. Years later I worked for AAA towing, and was the "T-6a" King (keys locked in cars) because I knew doors so well.. I got Hella tips from happy mom's who locked their babies in the car at the mall... great memories... later I was recruited by a repo guy in the bay area because of my reputation of not taking longer than 10 seconds - I literally had them count to 10, and usually throwing them the keys.. but it was the magical 80's
Sweet ! Sooner or later I have to take the panels off my C5 doors , it's usually just a matter of tightening things up when the doors & windows get sloppy & rattly , don't know why I'd rather be hit with a 2x4 than take doors apart !
Lucky, my dude you knocked the spring clip off the window crank in a hurry with that putty knife, but have you ever tried the shop rag trick? An old head made a believer out of me when he whipped those clips in less than 5 seconds without looking. Too cool what the old guys know...
I have a 68 c10 and was always frustrated with door latch operation. The reason is I also have an original unrestored 1948 ford F1 with refrigerator doors that close like butter. Crusty rusty old 48 shuts with ease while my 68 shuts like a Honda that's been T boned.
Thanks for the Video.....That was a great find, and a pretty easy install. I think it turned out great. To bad they (Altman) don't make a Striker Upgrade for the Square Bodies.... Mine can't be the only one that has cracks. Stay Healthy And Safe My Friend...Regards....
Lucky's Garage Show I realized know why you said Thanks i didn't mean anything bad to ypu what I should of said with out ypu I wouldn't of know anything about this topic iam very grateful to you sorry for my Dumbass comment
Hey lucky just an FYI Doorman products makes a nifty tool to pop off those pesky horseshoe spring clips on the back off the window and door handles they work great 2 second job!
Thanks for the video! I installed the same kit in my 71 but mine doesn’t lock at all. With the push rod or the key. Just wondering if you have run into the same issue. Thank you
Drain holes in the floor .. Help with Air-tight pushback. Run rubber grommets like you're drilling a hole to run wire through on the firewall. (drill out grommets if needed to insure airflow) The tube of the grommet will make splash up into your footwell nearly impossible. Drain holes there if you wash the floor or spill a 64oz drink... Double duty... Air and drainage.
Lot of work imo for doors that line up and close already with just a little more force but that's just me. Still have all the love and respect in the world from me Lucky and enjoy your work
Not being a critic but a air body saw would have made this easier I think as long as you use the right tooth count blade. I love my 3" cut off wheels but a body saw has so much more control. Anyways i dig the latch set up I had no idea someone made a pre fab kit.
I spent the weekend watching all of the Hot Rod Garage episodes. In fact I was talking to a few of the guys at work this morning about the show. We all want to know what is your go too sawzall blade?
Thanks I stored this product in my brain! Did you figure out the 3 holes at the top verus 1 hole you had in the diagram? BTW my son in law still wears your t shirt I got him.
I always wondered why they used those stupid Phillip’s heads screws to hold those in. I guess allens were just someones dream back then and torx were futuristic alien technology
It's nice how you started on the passenger side so if you screw it up you still drive your truck
Thank you for this video. You have made me spend more money and hopefully put the fire back in my sails of my truck.
Do What you want, it is after all YOUR truck...
👍
LOL. You must be new to the internet! :P
Thank you for allowing Lucky do what he wants with his truck, Tom!
@@tonny.c 😂
Always good to hear from Mr Obvious now and again
Anyone else cheer Lucky on when he was one-handing the Sharpie cap? :D
I kept thinking "just do it two-handed Lucky, you can let go of that latch now"....
and after he finally gets the cap on the pen, he immediately lets go of the latch. :-)
I’ve been thinking about buying those latches everyday for like the last 2-3 weeks lol. I’m sold
Get some video up of it !
Awesome that it was full job at normal speed.great to watch a master tech at work.

"Don't slam my door!"
Only car people understand. 😁
Nice product that solves a real problem.
Never underestimate the ingenuity of an American hot rodder.
Nice project. I always appreciate the quality of your workmanship and the way you explain things.
You r getting it done. Day in & day out, thanks for letting us watch & learn...
excellent work with the sharpie, only a trained professional can put the cap back on with one hand. I've tried and my fingers got all messy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Great you tube videos.I also enjoy HRG your humor is great.
Thank you for the great entertainment.
Outstanding. That installation looked easy and that latch made a difference

Good video and reminder. I’ve heard good things about these Altman latches before and your install confirmed it and reminded me to order my own. Stopped the video and ordered from Triquemfg a set of the universal latches to try on my ‘29 Roadster door. Thanks for showing this.
That’s a slick set up. You find the coolest stuff!
you have a nice little sleeper in that pickup
Gotta tell you Lucky, I'm impressed that you've still got all of your fingers, man.
So at 16 I worked at Lancaster Body and Frame.. Cool installation kit......nice work as always lucky....👍
Love your truck videos, it’s one sweet ride.
I love the C10 mods. It doesn't sound like a 67-72 door closing anymore. But it's cool to see the modern latch.
Sweet ! Sooner or later I have to take the panels off my C5 doors , it's usually just a matter of tightening things up when the doors & windows get sloppy & rattly , don't know why I'd rather be hit with a 2x4 than take doors apart !
Man what a cool door kit . Cheers good buddy

Always a pleasure to watch lucky. Good value.
That sure seems like a big improvement!
Turning into David Frieburger with those sandals man.
Is that a good or bad thing ?
@@bendermi Guess it depends on if you drop something on your foot.

He knows what precautions to make .
👍👍
Must be a Cali thing, I have my flip flops on watching the video.
Nice latch set up
One handed on the sharpie cap...
Well done Sir
This is the kind of old car tech support I love; it's almost plug and play simple!!!!
Not as simple as repairing your stock latches to work correctly. With a small amount of maintenance.
🤷♂️
Awesome! Nice little upgrade 👍🏽
I like the way you hold the instructions so it looks like you can actually read, lol.
That is a satisfying improvement. Thanks for sharing with us.
That 3M air file is worth every penny. Love the vids!!!
Awesome video Lucky. but you should still add that vent on the backside of the cab. 👍
My 99 Z71 is gonna love those.
Thanks Lucky 👍
Adding that to my lust of needed items! Nicely done man 👍
I have a 68 c10 and was always frustrated with door latch operation. The reason is I also have an original unrestored 1948 ford F1 with refrigerator doors that close like butter. Crusty rusty old 48 shuts with ease while my 68 shuts like a Honda that's been T boned.
Damn...Smoove latches! Nice bolt-in cure!
....I knew he'd use that little belt sander again....sweet little tool that thing!
Wow. That is an impressive result.
Nice job Lucky.... ahh webb wants his C--clamp back!
Sweet upgrade to the better 👍🏼
Thank you! Definitely on the list for my '68.
Get a vid up of it man !
Heck of a job what a difference
👍👍
Nice upgrade Lucky!
Great Tech Tip and Video. . to remember them
maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan I wish I had your patience ! Great video.
Nice I’m gonna buy that for my truck thank you for the video
Very nice upgrade!
The master builder at work. Cool mod

Great video thanks for sharing , do you know if they got kit for 1966 c10?
That's a handy dandy little sander ! Nice
27:00 wow, this is way better than I've expected.
Lucky's Garage Show excellent work experience is necessary
Thanks

You are the greatest, here and HRG
👍
That works. That’s well engineered.
Hey lucky just an FYI Doorman products makes a nifty tool to pop off those pesky horseshoe spring clips on the back off the window and door handles they work great 2 second job!
Sweet Door kit!
I see a faint fire department lable on the side door!!! 5 digit unit number too? LA city fire truck?
He mentioned this in a previous video. Was used to service fire hydrants I believe.
Lucky! love the truck! What wheel & tire setup are you running?
Thanks for the video! I installed the same kit in my 71 but mine doesn’t lock at all. With the push rod or the key. Just wondering if you have run into the same issue. Thank you
Who makes that extended style die grinder you used , i need one!
Harbor freight sold and may still sell one as well.
Eastwood has one that is reversible !
You can dial in the direction according to how the tool fits the area you are cutting in !
The latches are the least of my worries... funny that both top door hinges are rotting out. Quarter window or mirror mounts I suspect.
That turned out well. 👍
Nice set up!!!
That works really well, nice mod 😀👍
You could do a series; shop truck Saturday!
Keep the goodness coming lucky
I've always considered cutting latch assembly from newer rides to fab into older rides, for that sweet, silent click.
No go with the kit that trique kit
that might be a good solution for my 64 Buick Special wagon. thanks lucky
Great work Lucky!! Thank you for sharing. I hope they make these for my 75 Dodge D100
that kit is kick ass
Nice job as always
Thanks for this video lucky i plane on doing this to mine .that arm rest is not an orginal as you said.

Of course this company doesn’t make this beautiful latch for my old dodge. Thanks Lucky for sharing
Very nice, I need that on my 72 Blazer
Pretty sweet latches

Thing of beauty.
Now that's a cool product. 👍
Thanks for the video. I avoid replacing seals anytime I can, just for this reason.
I will have to try a set of these. 👍
👍
Assemble the latch before you bolt the new plate onto it and you can slide the whole assembly through the hole. A lot quicker and easier.
The old style is one of the things that I like about the truck. But I can understand the Frustration.
Tell Trique that you just sold them a set of latches, cant wait to not have to slam my doors. Also what what wheels are those? thanks for the video.
Pretty sure the missing screw for the door latch fell in the door?
Hi Lucky, what door weatherstrip are you using in the C10 ? Thanks for the great videos!
Bear claws really make me crave donuts 🍩
Those latches are slick.. Imagine a Chevy truck with doors that close
👍
Just don't replace the door seals and the close super easy....
I need a running start to close the driver side door on my 1990 k2500, but I'm going to chock it up to my lack of hinge bushings for now
Lucky are you wearing a Rolex submariner? If so that’s crazy working your truck with that on.
it looks like a hack job but the door does shut nice. you can’t really argue with results
👍👍
I always wondered why they used those stupid Phillip’s heads screws to hold those in. I guess allens were just someones dream back then and torx were futuristic alien technology
Nice job, do you have an air powered body saw? They work great for these kind of things and don’t throw sparks
Cool improvement
