Thank you to all who made this video possible. I am watching this from Queensland, Australia, where it never snows.😊 I would love to spend a night or two on the train.
As a conductor on this line, with a long history of family going back well into the GN era, id like to point out that Whitefish is the last roundhouse and 140' turntable in the entire state and last Mallet house of the GN. Our superpower R-2 2-8-8-2 class was the largest steam made until the big boys and most powerful, due to our 4% grades. I got a great grandfather who worked on the Essex division, and he got film on the east side these beasts doing 75+, and he'd run the S-2 4-8-4 passenger trains up to 130 as well. He died a few years back but he watched the 20s steam era with early compounds, the 40s with massive articulated R class, 50s with diesels, and the advent of turbine power as well when we had a GE demonstrator set. Where he lived (Red eagle on the timetable, but actually known as Nyack now) saw one of the worst wrecks near his house in the 30s. A fast freight coming up the pass slammed into the ass of a passenger at the flag stop, and all the wooden cars got crushed in. All were lost due to that. Theres a plaque there commemorating it if you go to the dump on the way towards Essex from West Glacier.
Potography is insane!!! I road those rails on Amtrak. You just don't see the majesty and beuaty of the region when sitting on the train. Drone's have been a game changer with the photography! Love it! Thanks you all!
I disagree, Marias pass on the Empire builder offers some amazing views, you can see the majesty of glacier park. As someone who lives in montana, sure it doesn’t capture being there in some areas but there are definitely some awesome views.
These are really excellent shots of the exciting landscape and the railroad line and the long, long, long trains. The shots in the cold are really great. I really, really enjoy watching your movies. The narrator's voice makes me raspy, it sounds quite sexy. Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany
Howzit : Amazing / superb site and drone footage ... Much appreciated ! It goes to show that no matter the prevailing weather [ Here : Beautiful Winter ]; heavy tonnage continues to move over a well maintained right-of-way .... Certainly looking forward to Part # 2; whatever it may be ! 🤙☝️
I was at Glacier in summer 2008 for field camp and got to see some of this beautiful and wonderful part of the country! Then again 4 years later in summer 2012 and I stayed at the Izaak Walton Inn!
Another absolutely mesmerizing production with some of the most jaw-dropping scenery ever. I can only barely imagine the challenges and logistics involved, but filming in the winter really takes these train videos to a new level. Just… wow! Thank you and keep up the great work.
My great grandfather worked on the GN in the early 1900s - I still have his pocket watch and lantern. Not much was known about him, but I do know that I worked in the same territory he did in Washington state.
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography job enabeling viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. enjoying this presentation from the safety zone of my computer room. Along the " Space Coast " 🚀 of Florida🐊🐊. Wishing viewers/RR employees a safe/healthy/prosperous ( 2024 ) 🌈🎉😉. Remember the " Singing Breakman " Jimmie Rogers-??? 🤔 Whom was a genuine breakman till changing careers to a singing entertainer🎸🎶. ( 1926 thru 1933 ) favorite song the " Break man's Blues ". 😭.
What impresses me is how many of these locomotives that are on display in the open all year round are kept in such good condition. There must be people who repaint them periodically
An extraordinary video, but it would be extremely interesting to include detailed maps of the different cities and sectors that are discussed in the report. If a person has never seen the area before, nor is familiar with the state of Montana, nor has ever heard of the rail line before, they can be lost with so much information without clearly locating it on a detailed map. Best regards.
I discovered marias pass through a game called Trainz, Route was built by Josef pav And now i am loving it!! Wish i could travel IRL in empire builder on this route.
BRILLIANT

Marias Pass look beautiful, even in the summertime. Robert

You know your trains! With a voice like that, one would think you were associated with broadcasting. thank YOU very much!
Thank you! I started as a radio disk jockey back in the 90's. Still do voice work besides these videos.
Your videos are very well produced, very much like Pentrex from back in the 80's & 90's.
Love my switchers. Love to see it.
Fantastic as always..
Ah yes Marias Pass…a huge part of my childhood courtesy of my Dads Dell.

Montana is a premium US. state.

So rad! 🚂🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Your layout has the most realistic scenery I've ever seen.
Awesome video!
On the former Great Northern Railway.
This was the best section of the Empire Builder for sure, I was lucky to be delayed enough to do it Eastbound in the daylight!

Outstanding Video, Great Scenery, Does anyone else hear the difference in sound from the ET44's compared to the ES44's and C44's ?

I’m planning on doing something like that

2:20Ow, that wheel ought to be investigated before long
Looks like this location has three seasons...June, July and winter!
Just about! Actually June can be pretty frigid up there. I'd say July, August and winter.
We were there in August, very warm for them this year.

Main camera was a Panasonic AG CX350. Drone was a Mavic 2 Pro.
Are you sureeee this is not in Canada?
Yes it’s not in CA, I live in Whitefish. Although this line is around 30-40 miles south of Canada
