  • FPD distributes a very effective hoof knife sharpening system through its dealer network. The system consists of a Baldor 1/4hp buffer that operates at 1800 rpm thus minimizing the heat build up that can damage a blade. The 6" x 3/4" Buffing/Sharpening wheel (deburring) and the 6" x 3/4" felt wheel are ideal for hoof knife sharpening. Bill Kleist walks through the steps involved in the process. A further enhancement to the wheels are the grooves for the knife hook. It is built in to the felt wheel and we have another video available to show how to put the groove in the buffing/sharpening wheel. Visit www.farrierproducts.com for more info.

very nice i was wondering if i could do this.. just a little tip though, i'm a student and my teacher advised me just the other day against wearing gloves on this little "pencil grinder." he said gloves actually cause more risk.

johnathon pate Hi Jonathan, Sorry for the late reply. There's always a debate about safety and usually the "safest" choice would be with gloves. But I know that some attachments could "catch" a glove and possibly create more risk. In this case I think that would be unlikely with the speed and type of wheel. So the concern is more that the knife could catch on the wheel and be jerked out of your hands, creating a risk of cutting you. Thanks for the comment.
