Love that saying! haha 😂 We will all get there someday if we keep working on it! 💪
Hi Liza, how are you? Look, I have a .547 pipe trombone with trigger and a King 3B, how should I practice playing both horns every time? or in what order should I practice them?
This is a GREAT QUESTION! I regularly play on a Conn 88HTO (.547 bore) and a King 3B too. My advice would be, play for the gig. What gig/rehearsal/recording session etc do you have coming up next? That’s the horn I would focus on the most. Let the other one sit on the back burner.
Now, if you want to play both everyday for fun. I would start with the larger horn - to make sure I get down into the low and trigger register, then move onto the smaller horn for high register stuff.
Also, don’t be afraid to switch it up. Be able to play all your music and warm-ups on both horns.
Ok! I understand both of your suggestions and I'll approach and apply them according to the occasion. Thank you Liza, for your reply.
Thanks l can u put it on reverb,, it .sounds bad stuffy not u the room Please. U got them notes .
When I play in the upper register I tend to press the mouthpiece against my lips and my teeth digs into my bottom lip. What advice do you have to keep from doing that?
The simplest advice would be: don't do that! Practicing while looking into a mirror REALLY HELPS! This way you can see when you start to press the mouthpiece against your lips. Try to train yourself not to do it. It all starts with being aware of when you're doing it, and training yourself to stop. Think of using the direction of your air and the shape of the inside of your mouth to play higher - not by adding pressure. I hope that helps!
I’m a high school student right now, and I just came back from middle school. Bcos of COVID I haven’t touched a trombone in 6 months and all the sounds I can make now sound like diarrhea. Do you have any advice to improve quickly to catch up with the rest of my band
Hey Hailey. Wow, diarrhea is a descriptive word! During those 6 months did you have access to a trombone at home to practice with? Do you have your own trombone or is it the school's? If you don't play for 6 months, then your sound is definitely going to suffer. Unfortunately there is no quick fix, you will have to rebuild your strength as a brass player and musician. The best way to get back in shape is to play everyday and review the basics. Make sure you are getting in a good warm up everyday, then maybe go back and play through some of your band music from middle school. I have 2 other warm up videos like this on my channel if you want to review those. If you want to take a lesson with me I can help you build a personal routine to get back in shape. I give lessons on Zoom, please let me know! lisaliztrombone.com/online-video-lessons
Lisa Liz Trombone Thank you so much!
Just out of curiosity, what does "Sharp 2nd" mean exactly. I've somehow never heard of that term before today.
Hey Colin! Sharp 2nd means playing a note in 2nd position, but a little bit higher or sharper. This means the slide position will be closer to the face. So think of sharp 2nd somewhere in between 1st and 2nd position. The most popular example of a note you can play in sharp 2nd is G4. Try it out and let me know what you think!
@@LisaLizTrombone So is that what the dash line next to a position's number is referring to? Though I haven't played as much in the last four years, I've somehow never run into anything beyond single high F (F4? Whatever the F that is two lines and one space above the staff is called) in any piece or song I've played. I often found it fascinating just how many notes I've never encountered in actual music, only in exercises.
Can I send you a video of me playing my trombone, and can you tell me what I need to work on?
Sure I can totally do that. Please send the video to my email lisaliztrombone@gmail.com or DM me on IG/Twitter/FB @lisaliztrombone.
I can give you some feedback on your video. If you want to learn more, I teach virtual lessons on Zoom if you would like to take a lesson with me.

Hi music bro! great music video! let's us go and support each others channel!
Well, I am not a bro, I am a girl! But thank you for the comment on my video. Can you tell me a little bit about your channel? Is it a music channel?
@@LisaLizTrombone:) Can't girls be bro's? My channel Its a trumpet related music channel. I make kinda nerdy trumpet cover vids with a little story line. And also reaction vids on music video's. I hope i did not ofend with "bro". For me its more ment as a frendly greeting.
@@Dilllie I mean, i guess they CAN, if they like to be called that lol. No worries, you didn't offend, I'm just not used to people calling me bro. I will check out your channel!
