Today on the Daily News You Can Use, Ray and Zach discuss the impact of the US federal government implementing higher tariffs on Chinese vehicles. Tune in to learn more! - Развлечения
GOING to skyrocket?? That missile left the launching pad four years ago.
Lmao for real, have they seen what a dodge charger or Ford f150 costs right now?
@@mattneil1449you can get a base charger for low to mid 20k
@@mattneil1449I know I should keep my money just in case the right foreclosure comes by and keep building long term wealth but I’m very tempted by a few challengers and chargers.
Which have been selling very fast the past month for their lower trims
Well, generally if you reduce competitive pressure, you get higher prices.
@@bills6093 When the Government regulates and mandates the hell out of the private market, you get much higher prices
Another reason a manufacturer will lower their prices is because no one is buying.
2024 Tacomas and Tundras are overflowing my local dealer lot!
Crap in Crap out. No one will buy. They cost too much.
They would if the Chinese were “allowed” to sell in the US, they already have solid state batteries on the streets
@@diegoharo7943evs are dead in the 🇺🇸 period! They are junk, to expensive and mining the minerals is way more harmful to the planet.
BYD in China sells EV’s starting at 10K and gets good reviews. Wouldn’t that be good for workin’ folk?
@@Skyking6976 it would be great for American consumers, it would force all manufacturers to lower prices but it would push a lot of companies out of business including Tesla which would cause a lot of Americans to lose their jobs.
China already has solid state EVs on the streets which are vastly better and cheaper
@@Skyking6976 no
Same guys who two months ago were saying that car prices were going to tank. The most North American car manufacturer nowadays is likely Toyota or Honda.
not 2 months ago.. two days ago.
The title is click bait. You clearly didn't watch the video.
Typical click bait title I've come to expect from this channel.
@@infinitebeast5517 Too silly to watch...but did for the first 15 minutes.
These two guys are flip flopping. One day they say car prices will crash and the next day they say that car prices will not go down. It’s all about click bait.
supply doesn't get reduced by keeping vehicles out that aren't coming in in the 1st place
The state subsidised attempt to destroy the markets in western countries is really the issue...
Ray was next level funny this episode from start to finish 😂. “ we had a condom machine, I know about protection”. “the reason you got a zero interest because there 0 interest in the car” was a bar.
Ray strikes as me as one of those rare salespeople who was friendly, a proper shark in the back room, and utterly honest and matter of fact with customers. Hardly find those types anywhere these days.
Ray rocks.
… geez, folks, … companies either lower their prices OR go out of business when consumers DON’T BUY THEIR PRODUCTS … so, please: wise-up, save your money, and walk out the door … 🤷🏻♂️🙄👍
Who cares about EV prices? I don't.
You need to cut ev' by at least 50% to sell any. Everyone that wanted one already bought one and got shafted with the price.
@@Dtronic2 I wouldn't take one for free....and I mean it. Unless I could sell it to a lemming.
I would thought judge Judy would have put her booty all up in a E.V.
@doctordetroit4339 Me either. I do love my electric bike, though. It costs pennies to charge, 50-60 mile range. With saddlebags, I do all my shopping. E bikes are the future.
The irrational fear of a technology is silly, especially when we know it's mandated to become the predominant tech for cars of the future. Are you still riding your cart and buggy and staunchly defending blacksmiths? Seems like it's time to face reality. Even if you insist on hating electric motors, which makes little practical sense, fully automated self-driving EVs are going to rapidly revolutionize the economy and if you refuse to adopt it you will certainly pay the price of you stubbornness.
Its not the competition, NOBODY wants these anymore, Use to have a model Y for 3 years, from car issues to Range Anxiety, Tesla Customer service is total garbage. Will NEVER own another EV, Bought me a Camry Hybrid XSE! LOVE IT
Glad you're happy. Bought a Model Y a year ago and will never go back to ICE. Having said that bought my wife a Bronco before my car and she will probably never have an EV.
0% is meaningless when the payment is still over $1000 a month.
Lack of sales should reduce prices. At leasr it used to.
You need to cut ev' by at least 50% to sell any. Everyone that wanted one already bought one and got shafted with the price.
And shafted with the customer service, impossible-to-repair, inconvenient infrastructure (understatement), and falling knife depreciation. When the battery fails (damage or age) just throw EV away like an empty butane lighter.
Sop reccomending nissans dosen't matter how cheap. Any with a cvt transmission is junk goes out at 35/75k miles can't be rebuilt cost 3k for replacement without labor had 2 family members run into transmission issues 5 transmissions total between 2 cars so far
I agree! My 2016 Nissan Rogue CVT went bad at 66,000 miles.
Nissan CVTs can be reliable IF they are serviced every 25-30k miles....
I too was concerned about that when I met my wife since she had just purchased a 2017 Nissan Rogue with the infamous CVT.
I am a technician and service all my vehicles religiously... the Rogue now has over 110k miles and runs and shifts like the day she drove it off the car lot. I've replaced the fluid, cartridge filter, and pickup screen every 30k miles.
ALL automatic transmissions require timely fluid & filter changes just like your engine does !!! Do this and you should have a reliable vehicle for many years.
@@justinlanglais9825 good info 👌 maybe I'll drop them some hints if they'll take the advice idk
@@justinlanglais9825 Wish mine would have went that long, had the CVT fluid changed at 35,000 at the dealer, and it still went out. Do you work at a dealer or on your own? If you do work at a dealer do they normally change the filter and screen too?
I want an Armada
One day we have a crash and the next day we are going to skyrocket. Let's be real. There are no Chinese vehicles here and if and when, why would anyone buy one even for $15K . Remember the Smart Car? LOL I would rather have a proven used EV for close to that (either way, I will not buy one) Lets not forget that Volvo is owned by a Chinese Co. At any rate, The economy sucks. New car prices are through the roof. Dealers suck. Interest rates are the highest they have been in 20 years. Nobody wants EV.s. The one thing nobody is talking about is how 21 and 22 production vehicles were barely produced. If someone is looking for a low mileage 2 to 3 year olds, guess what? Not much out there when it comes to exact "wants" Toyota, Honda, and mainstreams entry levels vehicles are now in the mid to high $30k's That is the reality and it all sucks. And yes, dealers suck yet again just like the medical industry, insurance industries, your cell phone carrier, and streaming and cable prices. They all suck
That's why we live in a rigged system in everything ! Don't you see the connection with Washington DC & the power brokers ?????
Agreed. Why didn't Ray and Zach list all the Chinese EV models we will be missing out on? They didn't because there aren't any Chinese cars on the market here..
@eseir64: I can't take issue w/a single thing you've posted, because it's correct and it's reality.
@@scottd7615yeah there aren’t any Chinese EVs here because of tariffs and the gov is making it even harder for Chinese vehicles to enter the market.
The Chinese have solid state battery EVs that would push out all competition in the US including Tesla
I’m guessing you live in Canada right? Because in the US we have not only many sedans for low to mid 20k but also small crossover SUVs for mid to high 20k
Demand for EVs is not going up though. Subaru and Ford dealers have boatloads of EVs they can't sell.
Subaru, kia, nissan, chevy, ford, toyota, mitusbishi, they all have them laying around. a simple search on autotrader shows them marked down by tens of thousand of dollars and they are still not selling.
The US gov continues to shaft everyday americans by stifling real competition
The Chinese have solid state battery EVs which will wipe out all competition including Tesla, it would be bad for US jobs.
It would cause even more job losses
Stifle competition, guess who pays more for less and prevents innovation and allow companies to provide crapy products.
How is it "real competition" if the Chinese government is subsidizing its EV manufacturers?
BS. There is greater market competition here than in China.
@@poncho6784 the OP isn’t wrong though, the government is stifling competition in the US.
Right now china has better EV technology, they have recently come out with solid state vehicles that would push all vehicle prices down and force manufacturers to develop their own solid state battery vehicles or something better
Chinese automakers can build EV in Mexico and avoid the tariff when shipping to the US.
and that's what they are going to do .
Exactly this. They'll use NAFTA against us
The big 3 have been using NAFTA to screw the American consumer AND worker for years. China learned it from them.
And then if they are built the same way as they are in China, many will burst into flames and explode. Then no one will buy them. The other option is to increase the quality, which would force an increase in price.
BYD has already announced assembly plant to be built in tariff free Mexico.
I would love to have an EV but the expense is ridiculous and waiting for the battery power improve. Until then, my 2012 Chevy truck is doing just fine.
The US electric power grid can’t handle these cars on the load. Over the last twenty years they have decommissioned hundreds of power plants. Theirs not enough wind and solar power to cover the load.
Hey, an acquaintance of my co-worker leases 3 cars, one comes up each year. She directly sells the cars to friends and acquaintances for the payoff amount. Toyota and Nissan allow you to transfer the title directly. Honda requires you to go to the dealership to perform the transfer. 3 years ago, I got her 2018 base model Civic for $11,000 with just 14,900 miles on it. I threw the dealership a bone and got a Honda manufacturer's extended warranty up to 100K for $1400. I was out the door for $14.2K after taxes and tags, etc. I had the option to get her Rouge but I declined and my co-worker later got it for his son. This is something that is never mentioned as an option to save money and avoid getting ripped off. My co-worker got the 2019 Rogue for $16K out-the-door with 17,000 miles on it.
So what? Everybody seems to want pickups anyway. Tariffs will just protect CEO pay
That's how the chips falls ,,
Corruption play's.
@@enzoh7763the problem is the Chinese EVs and their small basic trucks would crush the competition due to their low prices.
@@enzoh7763and the Chinese already have solid state battery EVs on their market which would push out even Tesla.
Allowing Chinese cars would cost a lot American jobs but in theory capitalism would force “American” manufacturers to lower prices and develop their solid state batteries
@@diegoharo7943Chinese EV’s are absolute garbage that have a tendency to burst into flames and even explode. Don’t fall for the propaganda. If Chinese EV’s had to conform to first world safety and quality standards, the prices would be significantly higher because they wouldn’t be the same vehicles sold in China.
@@diegoharo7943 ,,
The us auto maker could make their lowly paid worker work harder and produce to the same level , or even just close , of the Chineseor Japanese or Korean auto worker .
The problem is that people want SUVs and other expensive cares and these vehicles cost more than most people can afford. Toyota Tacoma just launched and the cost of common models jumped up 20%. People who would have bought new cars are being forced to look at used cars to get the price down.
Tariffs sound like a good idea...until you go to the dollar store and it becomes the 20 dollar store
Have you gone inside and seen the price has changed from 2 cards for $1 to 1 card for $1. I was so upset to not get my 2 for 1 Mothers Day cards. 😢
There is no market for EV cars. They have to give me the EV and I'd sell the damn thing. I'll have things delivered to me.
Sadly, you would need to pay income tax on the MSRP of the gift EV, less the paltry amount recovered by selling.
No market for EVs?😂
Tesla sold almost 1 million EVs in 2021.
They sold 1.3 million EVs in 2022.
And then they sold 1.8 million in 2023.
Still listening to CDs in the car?😂
Perhaps cassette tapes?🤣
This is why all the economists are saying we are in for the worst collapse in world history.
And “when” is that going to happen? Everyone has been saying this now for the last 2 years, but nothing has happened yet.
So who are "all those economists?"
It is already happening. People have the misconception that it will happen suddenly and quickly, but that's not how it works. (Hyper)inflation will kill the economy over time and make people poorer by the day
If that's true American car companies are going out of business.
Don’t usually get to watch live to comments in real time. Today was awesome. Protection😂 , audio mishaps.,, you two make it happen!! Entertaining and informative. Thank you.
I love watching you too. Deep inside I admire your relationship. It’s just amazing. I wish I had a dad like Ray. 😊and of course I learn a lot.

Love your show. Great information. Starting to see and hear more of caredge.
Darn, I really wanted a ChiCom EV!!!
NOT!!!
Glad I found you guys, love yalls videos
Me tooo❤
This protectionism will hurt US automakers worse than competition would. Sick of the effort to ram these EV's down peoples throats, think I'll go burn some junk tires...
BTW a boat anchor is a way better investment than an EV... if its there its gonna work!
Consumers do care about powertrain. I specifically went from an EcoBoost 2.7 Twin Turbo V6 to Chevy 5.3 V8 and others are doing so in droves to avoid costly repairs caused by the complex and cheaply made nature of 4 and 6 cylinder engines tweaked to deliver V8 performance. They are built for a good time, but not for a long time. A long time being 8 years or more.
Great review. Thanks.
I strongly disagree with prices going up forecast...people can't afford the current prices...and the affordability is going down... guys u got this wrong ...
They already skyrocketed. People can't afford them, theors a surplus of vehicles just sitting & rotting in the unsold lots.
Ray said zero percent interest is an incentive because the vehicle is not selling. Then why do the dealers refuse to come off the MSRP. Some of these cars have been sitting days on market 397+ days and dealer tells me "we cant lower the price anymore" I want the zero percent AND a few thousand off MSRP. I'm not paying for bogus add-ons and BS fees!
Thanks Guys. I realize that context (of the buyer and of the brand/year/model) is everything, but I don't want to live in a universe where a $70k+ Genesis/Hyundai/KIA is a "good deal". That's an awful deal. That is NOT value for the buyer's money. I don't care for EVs, but at least I can understand why some people buy them. I can't say that for most all Korean or European brands
If prices don’t come down, sales are probably going to get worse anyway
The high “loses” in the EV market are really R&D expenses and should be expressed as such.
My neighbour has a MachE. ( Business car) 200 miles and the battery and drive train were replaced.
Let's be clear. The Looooooooong term goal of EVs is national security, not the environment. I know the US is a major oil producer and Canada has massive reserves and everything is super duper right now however, sending money to countries that don't align with our political thinking is a bad idea in the short term and disaster long term.
How many Chinese EVs come into the USA? If none or few then I see no reason for tariffs on them to impact vehicles now available.
I agree. This will have zero effect on US EV prices. No China EV imports coming here.
Check back in 2030.
They’ll be coming in through Mexico.
Plus, if you make your payment on time, interest would go down too. A?
2023 models are nearly two years old. Someone is going to have to eat that depreciation no matter what the interest rates are. Smart buyers will not fall for that. Maybe half of MSRP with zero interest rates might make it worth it. But they want full MSRP or close to it.
Don't think this will affect American car prices based on supply because today there are NO Chinese EV cars in the US so therefore there won't be any change.
Yeah…we saw it coming BUT what would bring more people to EV’s? Lower prices. Heck BYD, who’s partially financed by Warren Buffet, sells EV’s starting at 10K. If you’re in NJ you get 7.5K from Uncle Sam and up to 4K from NJ…that means the car would be FREE. How about that for helping workin’ folk?
I thought pops was just having a senior moment.Kidding.
Huge News, I can ignore the new higher prices on upcoming vehicles just as easy as I can ignore what they are charging today. Too much!
Obviously you failed to take in the demand side of the curve. Demand is falling as fast as the price will go up. With the price going up, demand will fall even further. The end of the EV market will, thankfully, come much faster than it would have otherwise?
If you build a good product at a fair price you don't have to worry about foreign competition.
How many Chinese EVs are in the U.S.? The tariff has no effect because we already didn’t have them. It may stabilize the price at higher levels than what they would have been, but it’s not raising them. Prices are already going down for EV’s and will continue to do so as manufacturers get better at making them and we use new materials to make them.
I'm just keeping my car it's paid for runs good going to have it detailed polished new tires. Drive it another 100.000 miles
Not that you guys are very keen on motorcycles but Chinese CF Moto is doing pretty well with the younger motorcycle crowd and their bikes cost 1/3 to 1/2 as much as their competitors. With rising inflation and a shaky economy at the moment I can see why younger folks are buying those bikes and I can see the same coming with Chinese cars
Over reaction. American EV prices might get some support but it will still depend on consumer demand for the EXISTING maker’s products. With no Chinese EVs on the market TODAY and EV prices are falling under current market conditions, how do you figure this will have any upside price effects?
ONLY in Miami, would they even think of turning a Rolls Royce into a Police car...
They will all price them selves out of the market. Many people can't get loans and are maxed on their credit cards. If anything it will make the used car market stronger.
That’s just not true, sales are already down.. starting to see incentives even, so no, they will NOT be any huge price jumps.., not if they want too stay in business…
Products overall are costing more for tangibly less. I think the majority of Americans are not willing to spend more for less. Managing the inflation while not making more money is resulting in less sold cars. Where I stop buying things that cost more is with an automobile. I’ll take a used car or more of a base model to reduce cost of purchase. I was not even willing to by a used car with inflated prices and increased interest rates. It is getting better for used cars..
It looks like to me they are raising the price of ICE vehicle to cover the losses of their EV vehicles.
Of course. Need a little cash flow to pay the executive packages and the union wages/benefits.
One thought on comparing year-to-year MSRP, even on the same model in similar trim: Compare apples to apples. First, look at annual inflation (which is non-trivial lately), and adjust for that. Then compare features year-to-year. Latest year is seldom the same car. Some things like superfluous extra tech and comforts are manufacturers' choice to increase margins unnecessarily. Shame on them, no one is demanding these features. Some things may be mandated by additional safety, emission and efficiency regs, or unwise design changes to attempt compliance (think turbo 4-bangers or 3-bangers, automatic start-stop, etc.) Only way to reduce MSRP year-to-year and stay viable is to reduce features/size. I can still roll up windows with a crank and shift gears - most people can. (And there would be a market for SOME production to be like that, at lower but sensible margins.) Affordability by consumer choice, not profit/feature climbing spiral by designers' choice.
EVs are the pet rocks of the 80s. A catastrophic fad and expensive debacle.
Wanna buy or keep a used car and pay repair bills? Take a peek lately how more costly those are, that is IF you can even find a decent and honest mechanic?
Some models are not going to sell....but many are. The telework thing is shrinking, and people are going to have to drive more and more. Those miles add up.
I don’t agree, dealers offering 0% because people don’t want to be 7%with good credit. Ford is making good cars. If inventory is high then you have to do something. I’m sick of hearing about Toyota/honda. They are boring and break like anything else.
Yea! I agree! You guys are cool!!
Do these new tariffs apply to the vehicles that are “domestic’ brands produced in China? Some examples would be the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus and the Buick Envision with parts contents almost exclusively Chinese.
They are not an aspect of current EV pricing, so blocking them won't change anything. There isn't competition when there's a cartel. Nissan CVT sucks. Bring in a European Qashqai and I will buy it.
Not exactly sure what you’re saying but China’s BYD, financed by Warren Buffet makes an excellent cars from 10K on up. In Jersey we get the 7.5K from the government but up to 4K from Jersey and I think no sales tax. Imagine that for competition…a FREE car.
Ray's job is to embarrass Zach and make him blush.
In 1965, the VW Beetle, the darling for US Automakers Subcompact cars target price in America was @ $1,585... In today's money with the inflation index, which is 10 times higher prices nowadays... So a Subcompact car should be priced around $15,850 what the future Chinese imports were going to be priced at before 102% tariffs were applied.... *Interestingly, American Automakers Market adjustment is about +$10,000 above that... 😮
Folks ain't gonna pay $70-100K for a vehicle that's not going to last when groceries and utilities are going up exponentially. Sounds like a good time to open a self-service garage.
One day you are trumpeting that the car market is dying. Then the next day you say they are going to skyrocket. If you two could get baloney through a carburetor, you would solve the fuel crisis.
Ray I love your humor love it
I'm looking at trading in my car within the next 6 months or so. I need tires before winter, do I get them now? If so how do I work in these new tires into the trade on a new car?
The Chinese EV cars are heavily subsidized by the Chinese government, which is why the tariffs on them.
The slowing of the economy is bigger than the slowing of the EV sales have already reached critical mass…
It is crazy how China can manufacture and sell new EV cars and trucks for as little as $5,000. I am sure if they have to meet the US safety standard, they will cost at least $20,000.
Not if they throw on another huge subsidy. Like the monopoly robber barons, they know how to apply that price pressure until the competition folds or becomes so stressed that they can acquire it.
The problem with EVs is price. I see a lot of Bolts. Not everyone wants a hypercar, but all mfrs seem to need to make all EVs go zero to 60 in 4 seconds. I want a cheap EV that goes over 200 mi. Can anyone actually do that?
But of course had a couple QT problems to, like others.
they can solve that problem by building plants here. If they want to sell here then build them here
China doesn’t sell EV’s in the US, but they do supply the Korean and Japanese and US auto industry with chips and batteries so this tariff is meaningless unless the tariff is placed on the chips and batteries they supply. The EV market will continue to weaken and shrink in the US until a true Hybrid is developed in which a small internal combustion engine will continuously charge the electric motors that drive the car.. In this way there will be no need to develop an electric charging station infrastructure throughout the country.
Zach, it's not Miami, it's Miami Beach separate city and police force.
I read that chinese car makers will set up shop in Mexico to avoid these tariffs. Now, they'll be made in Mexico and not subject to the same rules.
Yeah that's the solution keep vehicle prices high. At this point we need competition.
Wonder what the headline will be for the next video.
Tariffs will protect domestic manufacturing a little bit longer, then offshore...
We don’t want prices too low.
0% doesn't help if the vehicle is overpriced by $30k and will depreciate ANOTHER 20% when you drive it off the lot.
Lets be honest... China puts tariffs on other countries imports to protect their domestic industries, and the government subsidizes or even owns the companies. A free market economy would mean no tariffs/subsidies on either side. When China removes all tariffs off of imported cars, then you can argue that there should be no tariffs on Chinese cars.
Funny you’ve been telling us forever that they were gonna go down. True knowledge is knowing that you don’t really know anything but real wisdom is realizing nobody knows anything
There not here Now and prices are dropping. So why would prices skyrocket now, if they don't come here CHEAP later? I am betting, by the time they get all the Legally Required safety features they will by starting at $27K not $8K I hear ppl talking about on other channels.
So the lighting, I think there going to make some hybrid s
If you buy a new Nissan with a CVT transmission; I have a bridge to sell you. If you buy a used Nissan with a CVT transmission; I'd also like to sell you a monorail.
I hear those monorails are awfully loud
How can buyers that live in apartment buildings charge their cars. Many parking garages in NYC won't let electric cars park inside. My friends New MB dealership can't park electric Benz's in the showrooms by order of the Fire Department in Bridgewater NJ
There are very few in any Chinese made EV's being sold in the US. I fail to see how the new tariffs will affect the prices of the US made vehicles. What IS going to affect the price is demand and right now there is no demand mostly due to the prices. If the US manufacturers don't lower their prices, they still wont sell any EV's.
Evs will continue to progress with time but we have to be open minded
I thought you recently said car prices had to go down because of no demand at these prices? . . . . .
This is almost specifically about EVs. Totally different market.
They are scared of significantly lower price points compared to their own significantly inflated price points. May be that the Chinese price points are just significantly normal and reasonable.
