Thank you for always being so matter-of-fact about mistakes and setbacks. One of the most difficult ideas I try to get across to my art students is that mistakes and setbacks happen, and that you just need to figure out what went wrong, learn from it, and then move on. It is nice to see it from a professional!
Wow! I’ve been told the secret to excellence is to be able to work through mistakes and overcome the nuances that detract. This is breathtakingly beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
I'm from the Czech Republic and I've been watching these events for 9 hours straight. It's incredibly fun and informative. It is a pity that I am not from Australia, I would immediately go to study with such an experienced bookbinder. And my English is not entirely good. Thank you very much for all your videos, when I succeed, I will also put somewhere on you tube.
Damn, I thought I was having a bad week. I love the fact you show your short comings right along side your successes. Shows you are human and gives a small glimmer of hope to a clumsy amateur such as myself. I’ll keep trying as long as you keep producing videos. Cheers.
Yes I love this too, it’s nice to see that we can make mistakes or things don’t work out, but it’s the attitude to fixing it and problem solving to show that it’s not the end of the world ☺️
I'd always assumed that books with this black leather spine section were placed OVER a cloth cover which went over the entire book. I'm only just getting into this (sew-bound my university notes with a fabric cover ... a nice fun project!) but I'd love to start exploring leather once I've some more space to work.
I am a writer, a poet to be specific. Usually I let my friend bind the books but this time i decided to learn and try to do it on my own so i started searching for tips and glad I found your channel. I can't wait to do it. Very informative and fun to watch. Thanks!

These two videos are fantastic! I followed them exactly to the letter, and created two perfectly fine leather/cloth hard cover books. Thank you! /Annika

I've seen the false band leather covering done with wrapped leather lace and even rubber bands. It's always nice to see a variety of techniques, I think I like this one just as much.
Such a beautiful book! I did a little bookbinding for a uni project, but I'm definetly inspired to have a go at re-covering one of my well loved paperbacks! The idea of having a special one off version of my favourite books are very appealing

Thanks. I guess we're all having a fairly average to poor year. If the worst thing to happen to me is that my foil won't take I should be happy:) Take care! DAS
"If you are one of those super rich book binders" ... ha ha ha, I can't imagine there are any of those! I also do bookbinding as a hobby, and it has nothing at all to do with money for me, nor could it ever. But I enjoy it, and that's how I continue doing it when I get the time.
I'm just about to bind some of my short stories and it's been awhile. So I looked at this thinking that I would just refresh my memory before I get started. Instead I'm inspired. LOL. Thank you.
I tried this project with cloth instead of leather - without the details on the spine and so on. The biggest problem for me was to cut and fold the cloth to glue it in the book. Specially the part near the spine. I made some mistakes for sure and probably it was more difficult than it should be, but im happy with the result regardless. I learned with the mistakes (some stuff you just learn passing through it) and also managed to bind a decent cover (not perfect, but decent). Thank you for another awesome video. I keep returning to them to refresh my memory and try new projects.
This would have appealed to me as a profession. Pity no one pointed that out to me when leaving school a million years ago. Then to my surprise I found an ancestor who made books, so perhaps it is in the blood. But I digress, thank you for your interesting and informative videos.
OHHH NO...Why am I here? I do NOT...I DO NOT....I .....DO....not.....I NEED TO DO THIS! I NEED TO DO THIS and learn to do this to all my paperback books...OH MY GOD MY WIFE IS GOING TO HATE ME!!! but it will be so cool to do! 'Honey...guess what I want to try...?'

This is superb, just like all your other videos which are fantastic and proving to be an essential resource for someone new to bookbinding. Many thanks for each of these videos I know they must be a lot of work but there very much appreciated!
This was exactly what I needed to see. I've been banging my head against a wall trying to figure out the best approach to type, tools and labeling. Couldn't figure the tools, and loved your demonstration of the hand-held type chase. All I usually see are these very expensive machines that take up loads of space. Seeing a small specialized tool for holding type seems the perfect answer to my problem. If I'm going to try to make a book, I'd like the title to look nice. May take a bit to save up for it and the type, but I know what to look for and where to find it. Thank you so much for showing all of the details, even the 'non-sexy' but completely necessary parts of a hobby I'm coming to adore.

Finishing tools are expensive in every country. They are just outrageously expensive anywhere outside the country they are manufactured. They are easy enough to find.
