Does seem like things are changing for the better though. The Injustice games are very dark tone wise and both The Joker and Peacemaker have made it into Mortal Kombat with no gore censorship. So we could see a remake of this that'll be way better. Who knows.

If MK9 was 3D then I gotta believe that would have officially killed the series. With MK9 being 2D it breathed life into its roots, I mean Street Fighter tried to do the same and it didn't work out either. It's like if Tekken 7 was 2D it might be fun or seem like a cool idea but it would lose what makes Tekken - Tekken if that makes any sense.
