A husband kills his wife's ex-boyfriend, who was blackmailing her. He flees to America, but is sent back to Italy to stand trial. The only way he can be set free is if his wife confesses to adultery - so the murder can be considered a crime of passion - but this estranges her from her family. Starring Amedeo Nazzari and actress of Greek origin Yvonne Sanson. Maligned by critics because it did not conform to precepts of neorealism, this did not prevent its unexpected box office success.

This is a very well-known Italian melodrama, selected as Best Foreign Film for the Academy Award in 1949. It was commercially successful for Titanus, the revived production house, at his time. Although the film’s morals do not pass the test of time, the actors’ performances are quite good and the film allows a glimpse of life in Naples and emigration from Naples at that time ✨💫

Infidelity has been encouraged since the 1960s; single-parent families abound; children grow up without both mother and father together providing a stable homelife; child abuse numbers have escalated, thanks to casual relationships with single men; extended families are no more, taken over by nursing homes; with the loss of Christian faith, consumerism and nihilism fill the void...It's not morals that fail the test of time, but time itself.

Preferisce far passare il marito x stupido piuttosto che dirgli la verità, in fondo l'altro lo aveva conosciuto prima di sposarsi, non c'é niente di male! Certa gente se non si complica la vita non é contenta.... Comunque non é un granché!
