  • Canadian author and Nobel Prize winner Alice Munro has died at the age 92, according to a spokesperson for her publisher. She passed Monday at home in Port Hope, Ont.
Publishing more than a dozen short story collections, Munro was awarded with the Nobel Prize for literature in 2013.
Often depicting life in small town Ontario, she was the first lifelong Canadian to win, as well as the first cited exclusively for short fiction.
Though often lauded for bringing depth and universal appeal to her rural settings and characters, she said she was particularly proud of giving voice to women through her stories.

How does an authoritarian surveillance regime affect *people's brains?*
    - Taiwan🇹🇼, 20 million people, has 4 Nobel Prizes: 3 Physics and 1 Chemistry.
    - China🇨🇳, 1.4 billion people, 70 times the population of Taiwan, has only 3 prizes: one Peace, one Literature, and one Medical.
    - 6 prizes for people with Chinese origins *not living in China.*

I was at Western when she was writer-in-residence in 1970’s and her office was in University College where I took a course; you could see Alice blend into the hallway walls, while she viewed the students with a knowing smile.

My favourite work of Alice Munro's is & maybe always will be 'Passion', the short story in "Runaway". Ms Munro, it's like you were watching from the sofa the whole time.
