I'm sorry to inform you your Universe is a counterfeit. Wrong bridge, the headstock isn't quite correct, it does not have the "made in" and serial number info on the back of the headstock, and the logo is not right, either. This is a VERY common chinese-website (think "chibson" stuff) knockoff. I've owned and worked in music stores (including a stint at what at the time was the largest Ibanez dealer in western Kentucky) since 1990. I've had my hands on HUNDREDS of Ibanez guitars over the years, and I own a handful of RG series as well. This guitar should have the Ibanez Edge 7-string bridge on it, not a flat-plate 7-string Floyd Rose copy. It's a beautiful guitar as-is, it just is not a legit Ibanez.
The bridge and headstock (shape and info) is what tipped ke off. Just wasn't sure if it was a budget version or something from aliExpress. Build quality over all is great, hardware is the worst I have ever seen.
@thecreepycrawl1413 I was amazed at some of the craftsmanship on some of the guitars on DHgate. The ones that aren't knock offs but just solid, no name guitars made by a Chinese dude with some skill. One had this amazing dragon carved all in the body and it was huge. It was about 400 bucks. In the US that same guitar, if made by someone here would easily have gone for 3 grand. I think getting a nice custom made body from a Chinese guitar maker and putting your own electronics/hardware in is a great way to get an amazing, one of a kind instrument at a solid and affordable price point.
@jedimindtrix2142 OH, that's rad. I agree. Chinese guitars are becoming amazing build platforms. This ChIbanez is built wicked well, can't wait to get some decent parts on it.
You owe your daughter some ice cream or something. She came through for you in such an awesome way. I don't know nearly enough about Ibanez to give you any helpful info, but I will say Jems and Universes are rad as hell. If the Universe is legit, you've got a dope guitar that can be used as serious trade fodder. If it's counterfeit, you've still got a dope guitar, but you probably shouldn't sell or trade it. You don't want to take part in the sale of fake goods, right? I'm sure you would handle the burden of having to house it with dignity and grace. It's always nice when good things happen to good people. Congrats, broham!
Yes my Jackson Professional Fusion HSS 1992 headstock has some small chunks broken off the tip. Kind of a flatted V shape but the black plastic is intact.🥰 Guess this is how you can validate a vintage Jackson. No chip, it's a fake 😆😂... or very lucky indeed though ironic if you had have chipped it. I jumped watching 😮🤩 Nice find.
So, the bridge gave it away. The Ibanez is a Chinese fake with a fake "licensed" Floyd rose. A real would have the Ibanez edge bridge and DiMarzio blaze pickups.
That's where i was going when I said the bridge is a giveaway. Honestly the worst bridge I have EVER used. Tuners too. I have a ton of Chinese guitars amd most hardware at least works. Haha
Pretty sure thats an early 2000 Jackson dxmg my RR3 has a 96 too but unscrewing the neck shows a 2002 sticker, lots of serials have 96-98 that are 2000s. if youre curious, unscrew it. Great find tho!
@Alex_Valentine absolutely, I agree. That jackson is something I have been after fir some time now. Was looking to get an earlier 90s model but 96 works, especially free. Haha
Sony bud, that's the one I will keep should I decide to let go of one. Really excited about it in fact. If you're into tye EMG HZs, I'll be getting rid of them ( I think). Can have them at some point. Looking for a set of earlier 90s Jackson pups, bridge had a bar in place of 1 row of pole pieces. Love them pups.
@@thecreepycrawl1413 thanks, but it's the reverse headstock i'm after... all the modern jacksons have the headstock the wrong way around. 😅 Congrats! and enjoy
@@thecreepycrawl1413 I have a '96 MIJ dinky with the same pickups. The HZs are actually decent, you should give them a try before swapping them out, you might be surprised )
Never looked at it like that. (Content creator part) I feel blessed either way, this channel is about sharing things I don't on my main channel. Vlog kind of deal. Thanks!

good call i could tell real quick its not real.

@@thecreepycrawl1413 2:44 It actually says 'Made In China' on the back of the headstock

The more I look at it and get to know the guitar, I am sure that it's a ChIbanez . More on that later.
Thanks so much, man.

Looking under the neck is my next move. Might do it on camera. Not sure, though. Thanks for the heads up.
I just looked. You are correct, though it's a 2002. Posting it in the community tab.
Wowww what luck! Congrats
You lucky, lucky s.o.b!
I agree. The Ibanez eems to be a Chinese counterfeit. More on that latter.

Made in China Universe? C'mon!
Lol you laugh but the build is great. Hardware is the worst I have encountered, but I ts a great build platform. It's also a common ChIbanez to fine.
if you want to sell the jackson, give me a shout. I'd take it as is.
