How beautiful they both are! Thank you for highlighting the differences and beauty of each one.
BTW, as much as I enjoy your orchid videos, I will VERY much enjoy your Colorado experience!!!

I like them both very much. Thanks for showing them.
Do you water dayly when its hot, even if the media and roots haven't dried completely?
I fear to water to often... but maybe this is the reason why they grow a bit slow? 🤔
It's sad to see, that you have less space for your amazing orchids.😥 Will you stay there, or is it only for a short time?
I had to move too, and miss my big south facing window and the bright light I used to have before. Especially for my orchids... But hope to get them to bloom nevertheless. 🙏

Yes, the roots shouldn’t get bone dry during the growing season! They approach dryness, but don’t fully reach it. The family and I will only be in this apartment for a little while. We’re renovating the house and then selling.

Nice! My C. purpurata didn't do squat this year; one dinky little pseudobulb from last season, no flowers. It is, however, starting a second new lead from the very oldest end of the rhizome, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Absolutely gorgeous Stephen I have always loved the Brazilian cattleyas and did you ever get a Rex from William? I want one but need a seedling, looks like you're bringing them all to the apartment now??

I did not get a rex from William! All the plants are at the apartment now. It’s a process to water 🤦‍♂️

@@SVKLOrchids I can imagine!! I have to fill 2 gal. Jugs, a 5 gal. Bucket, and a 1 gal. Jug almost daily and mix fertilizer in them 2wice a week but 1 thing I am very happy about is our warmer weather lately so I can just hose them down and flush like a rain storm...but it's tricky with the phals of course! It's getting to where the Temps are 120* in the peak of the glass cube!

Love those! My "biggest" purpurata just matured a growth and is pushing two more - first time for it to branch. My lobata came from Brazil last year and it's just starting a growth as well. I guess both of them have many years to go until they reach the size of yours...

Not sure how I missed this video! Nice to see the two species in flower alongside each other. While my preference is always the bigger the better, I actually think the flower shape of lobata is more attractive than that of purpurata. I actually owned a purpurata once but sold it. Still have lobata, though it hasn't flowered for me yet...

Great blooms, love that throat on your c.purpurata. My big purpura has very skinny bulbs. How do I make it fatter? Any advice is highly appreciated. Thanks 😊.

I grow pretty well with bark in clay pots, so I don't have any reason to switch!
