I believe the lore is he’s communicating with Radagon, or some other god. Similar to how the two fingers communicate through movement Gold Mask communicates with Radagon. Gold Mask basically argues with him throughout the entire quest line, wins, gets a Great Rune to fix all of the issues present in the Golden Order, then dies.
I don’t think the golden order ending is the “happy ending“ It’s just the ending that basically gives your character the chance to fix the Elden ring back to the way it was originally intended. But I don’t think that’s a good thing, considering it’s all in the service of some unknown bing that you’re basically playing, phone tag with using the two fingers. It’s the equivalent of the lighting the first flame and DS1.
@@daifuku75 well, I mean DS only had 2 endings and Elden ring has what 6. truthfully, Roni’s ending, reminds me the most out of all of ER’s endings of the fire keeper ending of DS3. And it’s the ending I always pick in that one.

this is not a happy ending as you isolate the lands between from all outer gods. Preventing malenia from reaching her full potential. Preventing mogh from communicating with his god and preventing him from helping miquella or bringing his dynasty to the world. Not a happy ending. It is an ending Where the golden order assumes total and unchallenged control "perfect order" Creating an empire in the lands between.
There's nothing happy about Perfect Order. It was an idealogy to remove petty squabbles and egos. This sounds great but it also removes people's ambitions.
