Hi all, may I ask what is the advantage of silk painting vs digital printing on silk ( besides painting leisure/ hobby/ small production scale)? I mean, is silk painting better in term of visual quality? or it is just about spiritual feelings for the artist? or the rarity to the buyers/ or the admiration for craftmanship from the public?
Hi! Thanks a lot for the interesting question. Sure in silk painting there are a lot of advantages (you mentioned all of them). But being a silk painter (mostly) I'd never insist that silk painting is always good. It all depends... many many things should be taken into account: quality of silk, of pattern, of painting, of hemming; energy that you feel looking at painted silk and especially when you touch it. Is it eventually beautiful ? SO !!! Sometimes digital print is much more preferable.

We are now in such an era where craftsmanship is challenged by machines and AI. It will be very sad to see many traditional craftsmanship faded as time passes by. At the very least, it’s worth if we feel happy doing it ❤️

as I work with solvent based resist, it doesn't need to be removed, it stays soft. I'd say even more: it can't be removed, it's kind of imprinted in silk. My recipe for self made resist is here: ruclips.net/video/03Bz2R4yu2M/видео.html

Пользовалась красками марабу.. Сейчас купила натуральные пигменты из Индии в порошках (сама смешивала с водой, мочевиной, guar gum и т.д.) Хоть и приготовила очень жидкий раствор, они совершенно не плывут и рисуешь как будто на холсте акварелью... Был ли у вас опыт с натуральными пигментами? Или вы что то об этом знаете? Например как их закреплять?

Do we have to wash away the neutral gutta at the end?
you may if it's acrylic (water based), but I not always do that. In this video solvent based resist was used , it doesn't need to be washed out

Can you please confirm that you removed the first resist before starting the second layer?

yes, cotton is cheaper, can be painted with acrylic, or special "steaming" dyes for cotton, but with acrylic the process is much more simple :)
