"You and I" was a duet by Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle that became a big hit in 1982. In 1982, the two singers joined to record the song "You and I". When released to the public in 1982, "You and I" became a big country pop crossover hit for both singers, showing to the public they could be just as successful singing duets as they are capable of singing solo. Both singers gained equal respect for the song.In 2005, the song ranked #7 on CMT's 100 Greatest Duets in Country Music. Gayle performed the duet with Raul Malo of The Mavericks since Rabbitt had died of lung cancer in 1998.
"You and I" went to number one on the Country chart for a single week [1] and went to number seven on the Hot 100

This song, “JUST YOU AND I” came out in November or December of 1982 when I was a young man so naive and full of hopes and dreams with my future before me…..long before heartbreak, failures and setbacks, shattered and broken dreams and crushing reality came down on me afterwards. Life knocked me down quite a few times. But I kept getting back up and I am still here. Even though I’m a jaded, cynical old man whose life didn’t turn out exactly the way that I wanted it to…..I am still truly grateful for the brief glimpses of love, happiness and joy that the lyrics of “JUST YOU AND I” talks about and celebrates. For a long time I didn’t want to hear this song because I felt like such a stupid fool for being dumb enough to buy into the lyrics of “JUST YOU AND I”. But I have always been, even at my most jaded and cynical moments…..a sweet, sappy, sentimental, mooshy, mushy, hopelessly romantic dreamer. I am still in love with love. And even though I never found the “girl of my dreams” or my “soul mate”, my heart is truly glad and happy when others get to experience the wonderfully incredible and beautiful gifts of love. I love it when love works and succeeds and boy meets girl and they fall in love and they end up getting to do the happily ever after and getting to share their lives together and make memories with each other and growing old with each other. Even now I love this song more than I ever did before. The music and lyrics of “JUST YOU AND I” by Eddie Rabbit and Crystal Gale are so beautiful and so powerful that I cry. But at the same time my heart sings and my soul soars with happiness and joy and that even after forty plus years, a jaded and cynical old man like me can still feel such strong emotions and still be grateful for having had even just a brief glimpse and taste of what real love was / is. Thank you so much, Eddie Rabbit and Crystal Gayle for singing “JUST YOU AND I”. And rest in peace , Eddie Rabbit (November 27, 1941-May 7, 1998).

Well ok, I'm a gay man and had 3 lasting relationships but lasting 4 to 7 yrs. My last one was 10 yrs together 8 yrs married. It was 2010 my wife and I got married. In 2011, we brought our newborn daughter home from the hospital together. We struggled to make ends meet and we did it together. Then my wife's health began to fail. I lost her last November when she passed away. God, how I miss her. We loved this song.

I remember I had tickets to his concert for a while the day he cancelled for his concert in SC and later found out he had cancer and not long after he died you are so missed by all your fan what a romantic voice and was taken away to soon.

I was six when this was on the radio.
I would be spend the night at my cousins house to play video games, and remember hearing this play when the alarm went off. My Uncle Richard had to wake up early to go to work, but he always slept through the damn think.
He passed in 04, but he was one of the first men to talk to me man to man, where my pops (his brother) needed to be stern all the time. Ten years before he passed, we had that first conversation.
I miss those days. It was SO much fun! I loved my family so much. With the deaths, and the political climate of today, and life in general, we're fractured.

When I look back, the lyrics are so fitting for us in big and small ways. The simple sentiments are always the most powerful. My wife taught me that. She passed away a few years ago, but she will always be the best thing that ever happened to me.
